About Shirley Filliater

This was Shirley's first house, which she bought in 1985. When we got together and Pete's son moved in with us, we moved to a larger home two miles away. But, we love the university area. There is always something to do close by -- a concert, a festival, a sporting event, or just taking a walk. We will probably move back to our ASU house in the next few years so, when we recently remodeled it, we decorated it with care. We hope you enjoy! - Shirley and Pete

Why Shirley Filliater chose Tempe

It is fun to live in this neighborhood. It is quiet but close to a lot of activity. ASU students as well as home-owners live throughout, making the neighborhood upbeat and lively. Pete and Shirley have lived in the area since 1985.

What makes this house unique

The house is conveniently located to ASU and the numerous activities that occur there. You can always find something to do within minutes. A dog park is located at the end of the street so it is entertaining to just sit in the front yard, watching the neighbors walking to the park each night.

Great, convenient location, clean & comfortable, friendly owner!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and nearly 2-tear old daughter traveled with me to Phoenix for a business meeting, and we wanted the flexibility of a house rather than a hotel room. My colleague that I always room with for these meetings also stayed with us. This house was perfect for our stay! It has a large, well-stocked kitchen, and a beautiful yard. The AC worked perfectly, which is always something I worry about when traveling to Phoenix! The location was super convenient both to the airport and the University of Phoenix, which is where the meeting was held. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, and all of our questions were answered in the lead up emails through VRBO and the info at the house. Even still, Shirley was super responsive to my texts! I would highly recommend this place to others...great for kids/families too!!

Comy and close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

Over the past few years we have spent a total of 8 winter months in "The Casita." We have enjoyed every minute of those months. Not only is it close to ASU, but a short few blocks away there is a great pizza place, a fine bistro, good Thai food and a funky liquor store with an associated tap room. There is a very nice city park at the end of the block, which is well cared for. If you are a road cyclist, you are a safe 5 mile ride down to the Awatukee Hills area which has some good climbing and excellent road surfaces. Old town Scottsdale and its Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts is 15 minutes away. Too far for culture? The Tempe Center for Arts and ASU's Gammage Theater are less than five minutes away. If you like baseball, Tempe Diablo Stadium is less than 10 minutes away, and no need to face freeway traffic. The backyard of The Casita is great for dogs and if you hang up some feeders, you will see lots of hummingbird activity. The home is very clean and Shirley and Pete are there in an instant if you ever need them. Plus if you want a bunch of people to get together, you can rent one or two of their other steps away VRBO's!

Everything You Could Want and More

  • 5 of 5

This was our first experience with a VRBO rental and the bar has now been set very high. This 3 bedroom home is lovely, comfortable and well maintained. It comes equipped with all the comforts of home including a covered patio (with at TV), a lovely private back yard, a kitchen that any cook would love and it includes all the gadgets you could want. The owners are caring and helpful. Would gladly stay again when in Tempe.

Suited our needs just fine for a week at ASU.

  • 4 of 5

The owner was easy to coordinate with, and the house was well stocked. We found the close proximity to ASU a big plus, and it was close to good restaurants as well.

The house worked well for our needs. The beds were comfortable, but the bedrooms could use a better set of drawers. In general the property was very well maintained. The wet weather resulted in the bedroom doors not closing properly (sticking), but that normally wouldn't be an issue for Tempe. The only other issue was the living room rug had a lot of pet hair which might be an indication that the owner's cleaning service needs to be revisited.

If we have future plans in the Tempe area we would definitely consider staying here again. The owner is easy to contact, very responsive, and the property is well located and set up to be very easy to get in and familiar with everything you need.

Great house, close to ASU, would strongly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

The owners of this property were extremely professional and friendly. Great tips offered for our weekend with regards to events going on around the area, traffic etc. The house was lovely - clean and had everything we needed. Comfortable beds and pillows. We LOVED the neighborhood! Funky, friendly cute area with plenty of restaurants and shops. The dog park was so close and PERFECT for our young dog. I noticed a lot of repeat visitors in the guest book and I am certain it is because this place is great!
