This cottage is perfect for 2 couples or a small family. It may not be suitable for very young families....
We traveled back to this cottage for the third time and from the moment we got out of the car and heard the surf below breaking along the shoreline we knew why we keep returning to this special place. The cottage is very private surrounded by woods and outstanding vistas across the Penobscot Bay. Dozens of wild finches feeding off the rear deck and accomidations that offers all the comforts of a home well cared for and maintained. The thing that keeps bring us back is the relaxation we feel from being in the cottage with the fireplace burning and the sunset across the bay directly off the rear of the house.
The only regret we have is not staying longer ....
We are a family of five from CA who are just now winding up a magical two weeks in the Dan’s “Cottage.” I can’t get over what a charmed vacation we have had! I looked for months to try to find the perfect home on the coast of Maine for a very special time of family celebrations (30th Wedding Anniversary, son’s college graduation, etc.) It had to be right and boy did we find it!!
The house is so peaceful and easy to live in, with amazing views not only from the decks and upstairs master bedroom, but from every room in the house with the smaller bedrooms looking out to the trees and garden. The artwork and décor of this home are very tasteful and inviting. We had wonderful fires in the huge stone fireplace almost nightly, enjoyed both mornings and evenings on the deck enjoying the sun and then watching the sailboats, schooners and lobstermen. The beautiful birds, garden and grass areas are just spectacular and well-tended. There is a BBQ area which we never actually used, but it looked like a great idea.
The beds in this house are very comfortable. Our young adult sons each enjoyed their own bedrooms (queen beds) upstairs, and our teen daughter was thrilled to have the second master suite (queen bed) all to herself. The second master suite is in a wing of the house that is very private and would be perfect for a second couple or older parents traveling with a family. Both master suites have their own small TV with cable and there is a large TV with a great sound system in the living room which we enjoyed for movies. We couldn’t get over how spectacular it was to wake up to the amazing view of the Penobscot Bay right outside of the expansive windows upstairs in the master suite (king bed). We slept with windows open and ocean sounds each night.
We usually got lunches in town but cooked most mornings and evenings in the very well equipped kitchen. It was especially nice to be eating together again so we made great use of the dining table for candle lit dinners, puzzles, and games (there are many in the closet). We wanted for nothing…one could arrive here with nothing but a small bag of clothes and a few bags of groceries and be completely set…there are even every conceivable level of sunscreen available in the closet!
Ray and Barbie are the perfect hosts, calling to check in and offering lots of information and help. Thank you to them and best wishes to all who find their way to this wonderful “Cottage."
It's hard to imagine being able to get any closer to the ocean. Double decks, beautiful gardens, wildlife, the sound of waves on the rocks and views of the water from nearly from every room. The cottage is private and beautifully decorated. It is also conveniently located - a short drive to Camden, Rockland (don't miss the Farnsworth Museum) and Belfast for great food and shopping. Easy access to the ferries to Islesboro, Vinalhaven and North Haven. Feels like a secluded retreat but is actually quite accessible. The owners obviously take great pride in the Cottage and are extremely responsive. They go above and beyond to make your stay perfect!
Four friends from Texas enjoyed this extraordinary home that exceeded our expectations in every way. The home is extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. The hosts were helpful and went above and beyond to provide a warm and well-equipped property. The setting and views are incredible - you can see and hear the water from most of the rooms in the house, and the views from the deck and dock were breathtaking. I have been vacationing in Maine for decades and the experience at "The Cottage" surpassed all others!
This was our first trip to Maine, and we could not have found a more tantalizing introduction! The Cottage located on Penobscot Bay set the scene for all we had imagined. . . an area full of culinary delights (lobster rolls! fried clams!), local flavor and small town charm, hikes on hills to view the coastline, sunset cruise on a schooner, even yoga classes at the community center. We never tired of visiting the Camden library or the amazing market on main street. . . then back to our piece of paradise (the deck of The Cottage) for happy hour every evening. We started over again the next morning, on the deck with coffee watching the lobster boats pull up their nets. Everything to the smallest detail was covered by our hosts. We found our accommodations perfectly suited for having guests join us a few days, as they had their own private suite on the main floor while we stayed upstairs (for the windows and view!) The VRBO listing does a great job, yet cannot capture the essence of The Cottage because the grounds and the view are just so spectacular. We took hundreds of photographs that became a coffee table book in Texas! If ever we left our hearts at a VRBO property, this was it! Thanks to the Dans for sharing paradise with two flat-landers from the Lone Star State! Ann from Texas
My husband and I have 2 couples of friends who travel with us once a year as a group. We have been all over the place and usually use VRBO to select rentals. This is one of the best properties we have stayed in. It is a lovely house, well appointed and most comfortable with fabulous gardens and views of the water. I was an interior designer for 20 years and was very impressed with furnishings and decor! The location right outside of Camden is excellent. The owner is great about pointing out things to see and do in the area and being helpful with any and all information. We loved our stay there and plan to go back for years to come. We give it a 10 out of a possible 10!!!!!!!!
we have the finest view on all of Mid-Coasr Maine!
