Overview

About the property

Villa, 5 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

This fabulous 5 Bedroom - 5 Bathroom Villa dates back to the XVIIIth century and lies on the hill of "Poggio Imperiale", one of the most exclusive residential areas of the city of Florence. Being only one mile away from Porta Romana square, a renowned "gate" into the heart of the historic district of the city, the villa is ideally located to visit Florence and its Tuscan surroundings at their very best!

Set within a 3 hectare (7.4 acres) estate, this delightful villa is flooded with sunlight and has recently been extensively and carefully renovated by the owners to the highest standards. All of the original charm and architectural features have been strictly maintained and are highlighted by the wonderful Tuscan landscape, second to none for its striking beauty.

Each living space has been exquisitely appointed to create a sophisticated and cozy atmosphere making the villa a truly unique gem, within just a few minutes from the very best that the city of Florence has to offer. The breathtaking views of the surrounding hills together with the tranquility of the estate create a relaxing, and peaceful atmosphere.

The property provides its guests with a unique blend of indoor and outdoor living, perfect for a family reunion, a group of friends traveling together, or an anniversary party…with its 5 wonderfully decorated bedrooms and bathrooms, the villa offers the ultimate accommodation for your dream luxury holiday in Florence!

The Garden.

The beautiful typical Tuscan landscape of the villa’s private garden, full of fruit and olive trees, roses, century-old cypresses and pine trees, can be enjoyed throughout the villa.

The garden also looks out onto the beautiful Florentine hillside as well as Villa del Poggio Imperiale – from 1737 to 1860 this was the residence of the "Lorena" family, the Austrian Grand dukes of Tuscany. And the Arcetri observatory where Galileo Galilei continued his astronomical research after being called to Florence in 1610 by Cosimo II dei Medici can be seen as well.

The Private Heated Pool.

The wonderful salt-water infinity pool sits right next to the villa’s terrace and garden and comes with a full set of comfortable sun loungers.

Being wonderfully exposed to the sun all day, the pool’s water gets really warm (around 31-32 Celsius/88-90 Fahrenheit) during the summer months, while it is heated during the Spring and Fall.

The Location.

The villa’s location is without any doubt one of its most unique and important features. While immersed in the beauty and quietness of the typical Tuscan landscape it is located just about a mile away from Porta Romana square (where the old city walls begin), and represents the beginning of the historic district of the city of Florence. So, all of the cities’ main points of interest can be easily and quickly reached in just a few minutes either by car, taxi, bus or even on foot.

Just to name a few examples, world-renowned Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) and the Uffizi museum (the very “heart” of the historical district) are only about 1.9 miles away, while the main train station (Santa Maria Novella) and Piazza Del Duomo (Main cathedral) are only about 2.5 miles away.

The nearest grocery stores, restaurant/pizzeria, pharmacy, bakery, cafes are located just within a 6-7 minute walking distance. At this same location it is also possible to take the bus that goes right into the heart of the center in just a few minutes.

Taxi service works perfectly as well, as taxis usually reach the villa within 3 to 5 minutes from the time they are called (nearest taxi station is only about 1 mile away).

Furthermore, from the villa it is possible to easily reach the road leading to the nearby Chianti villages (such as Greve, Panzano, Gaiole), the freeway to places like San Gimignano or Siena, and to the A1 Highway (to reach Rome, Milan, Naples or other places in Tuscany such as Pisa, Lucca).

The Layout.

The best of the best

  • 5 of 5

We rent a Villa Le Fontanine house in September and October 2016 for 8 weeks. As our family is large we split our group into two parts.

It was the first time we have renting a house outside Brazil and from this experience we decided to repeat it every year.

The villa is beautiful, cozy and calm. Everything is clean and organized with great taste. A village has a huge outside area behind the house with an orchard full of fruits and a lovely vegetable kitchen garden. Every day the children had fun picking apples, plums, grapes, tomatoes, etc.

Antonello is a very attentive person, he answered all my messages very fast and with a lot of patience. We hired a cooking chef, Lorenzo, to prepare our dinner every night because we were with two kids and we didn’t want to leave the house at night. Lorenzo did all the shopping for us without even having to think about the menu. Our only work was geve him the weekly money.

I didn’t have any situation or something that we could complain or regret. On the contrary, this trip opened our minds to a new way of traveling. Renting a house you can really live the place you are. Joining in a day of locals and trying the their way of life is priceless.

At first we rented a car to travel around, but very soon we realized that as we loved to much drinking wine and we would like to travel all together, we returned the car and we had the entire journey by train. In the morning we woke up and decided where to go. We called the taxi and in 5 minutes we were at the train station. It was very easy. Firenze has trains to everywhere at all times.

We also did bike rides where the guide picked and left us at home. We knew beautiful bicycle routes and tasted local products like wine and olive oils.

Anything I say to relate our experince will be insufficient to describe our wonderful moments and feelings at Villa Fontanine.

Thank you Antonello for our lovely times. For sure we will never forget it.

A spectacular comfortable villa in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

choosing a villa from photos is not easy. But this one was all we expected and more. From the beauty of the property to the amenities...real strong hair dryers in each bathroom...unheard of...air conditioning which we did not need, a gorgeous pool, a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities.

Tomasso, the driver the villa uses, was fabulous and we did a wine tasting with him one day. Olivia was available for anything we needed.

The only glitch was the need of a taxi for the 6 of us...all women...it is not an easy walk into town for the local bus. so we spent more money on taxis than budgeted. Yet, it was a short 10 minute ride.

Tomasso and his driver Marco were always available to take us places...including San Gimignano.

I would highly recommend this property. when you look at the main photo, our villa was to the right and not a part of this larger one shown. We felt it was like our home and easily adapted to it.

Perfect luxury estate in Florence

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful, charming villa was absolutely perfect for our large family vacation in Florence. We dream of returning soon! The location was outside of the city but a very short taxi or drive to the center. The pool was a great bonus for our toddler, who played in it regularly. Gorgeous grounds, wonderful dining areas and many lovely bedrooms and bathrooms. We had a cooking class in the kitchen from a chef referred to us by the owners. Amazing! It was a wonderful base from which to enjoy Tuscany, including a daylong trip to the Chianti area, enjoying wineries, cheese makers and olive oil producers. Florence of course is filled with all the activities you could desire, and we hope to come back soon. Thank you for a perfect trip.

Home Away From Home...

  • 5 of 5

It sure felt like home to all 9 of us during our 2 week stay in Italy. The owner of the estate, Alexandra, was extremely helpful from start to finish through the rental process. Her children, Olivia and Antonello are incredible hosts and were there for us upon our arrival and departure. They couldn't have been nicer or more attentive - they were a text or phone call away if we needed them which was very comforting.

Our family of five siblings (four of whom had spouses with) stayed for two weeks in this picture-perfect, ideally located, comfortable home. Five bedrooms and five baths allowed for each person to have ample personal space in addition to the inviting family spaces for gathering and conversation at the end of our days of touring. Located in close proximity to Florence, it was easy to maximize our Firenze Pass for our first three days and hop on trains to our overnights in Rome and Venice. We took our rental van on sightseeing day trips to beautiful Modena, Assisi, Cortona, Cinque Terre, San Gimignano, Volterra, Montepulciano and Sienna!

We packed a lot in so it sure was nice to come home to Villa Le Fontanine - it was everything we dreamed of so we hope to be back someday...

Grazie!

beautiful retreat (Aug 19-26th)

  • 5 of 5

We were 8 Canadians staying at this beautiful villa and did not feel cramped at all. The pool is a great asset for sure along with the stunning views! My advise is to rent a car, even just to get to supermarket, as it is not great walking on the narrow streets and very far. Also we used the driving services of Tomasso that also set up 2 private vineyard tours for a day. His service was very reliable and costs about 40 e/hour. We also took the bus into Florence, which is very close. We did a dinner at the villa with a chef that was recommended by the Villa, and were completely satisfied as the food and service was incredible. The owners daughter (Olivia) was really nice as well, giving us some fresh tomatoes and lettuce from their garden. The pool is cleaned daily and the chemicals are checked too. The grounds are stunning and well taken care of. Thanks to all at the villa for making our stay so memorable!
