The apartment has a double bedroom, a living room which looks out over the valley towards the sea. A kitchenette (fridge, two ring gas table top hob, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and a lovely old marble sink) with dining table. The terrace is lovely for eating out, relaxing and enjoying the view of the valley of Camaiore, looking over the hills towards the sea,. The apartment itself has this same panoramic view. Use of the Peralta swimming pool of course. This apartment is situated on the top floor of Casa Pipistrelli and faces south.
The three properties described here are all located in Casa Pipistrelli, one of the houses that forms the beautiful hillside hamlet of Peralta, on a south facing hillside above the valley of Camaiore. Casa Pipistrelli is a three storey house.with a one bedroom garden apartment on the ground floor, another one bedroom apartment on the top floor. Both apartments have wonderful views and their own private entrances. Each apartment has its own private terrace and do not overlook each other.
Peralta, with medieval origins, was restored over a period of thirty years with love and imagination by international sculptor Fiore de Henriquez. She created a place that is quite unique. Its commanding position gives Peralta stunning panoramic views over the valley to the sea beyond. Terraces of olive groves, orange and lemon trees, bougainvillea, jasmine covering the stone walls makes the hamlet seem like paradise. Fiore’s sculpture and the manner in which she designed and restored Peralta, give the place its very special character and atmosphere. Perfect base for a holiday, far from busy crowds and yet with easy access to all main Tuscany attractions. It is lovely to return to the peace of Peralta after a busy day. Peralta has various accommodation, mainly self catering, in different buildings.
Peralta can offer:: The beautiful peaceful hamlet of Peralta has a spectacular setting in the Tuscan hills that rise high above the valley of Camaiore. There is a swimming pool on one of the upper terraces, a tranquil spot with a panoramic view towards the sea. The large terrace in front of Peralta is a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine, enjoy the sunsets and meet other guests.
Art at Peralta: As well as for guests who simply wish to relax and enjoy their surroundings and the pool, Peralta also offers an ideal, inspiring setting for creative people: painting, sculpting, writing. A studio for sculpture is available. Writers can settle in and write in peace. Lovely walking country with marked trails through the olive groves and hills dense with chestnut trees and known for their wild flowers in spring and autumn. Walks range from 50 minutes to a delightful restaurant in an adjoining village, to three hours up to the peak of the Mount Prana above Peralta. Peralta is ideal for a family gathering. You can rent as many of the properties that are necessary to house your group.
International sculptor Fiore de Henriquez was living in the area of Camaiore from the 1960's due to its proximity to the Carrara marble quarries and the bronze foundries of nearby Pietrasanta. In the 1970's she found the small hamlet of Peralta, perched on the hillside above Camaiore. It was remote, served only by a footpath, and the buildings were mainly in ruins - their inhabitants having left in the mid 1950's due to the hard living in the hills. No water nor electricity at this time. Fiore fell in love with the hamlet and managed to gradually buy the various houses. She then set about restoring them and the hamlet and created the very unique place that exists today. She died in 2004 and the hamlet was then taken over by a very good friend of her's who is the current owner. . Repairs and renovations are undertaken where necessary, but the essential essence of the hamlet remains the same as when Fiore was alive. It is the home of her archive and sculptures, which can be seen throughout the grounds and in the various accommodation.
It is hard to describe the absolute charm and beauty of Peralta and why I am so passionate about it. I now own it and am as much in love with it as Fiore before me. Every corner has its surprises, small details to delight the eye. The wisterias and bougainvilleas offer vibrant colour and essential shade. The views are wonderful, changing with the light, with the weather, with the season. Sunsets are magic. Early morning mist lying in the valley. The sight of Corsica on a clear day. The large bronze sculpture of 'The Phoenix' on the main terrace about to fly off over the valley. Fiore used to say it signifies 'Peralta rising from the ashes'. The many sculptures Fiore left for visitors to enjoy on the terraces. Her private gallery which I love to show to guests and one evening a week, at aperitivo time, I invite any guests staying at Peralta to a viewing of the gallery and Fiore's original house I hope many visitors will find their way to Peralta and enjoy it as much I do ......... possibly even fall in love with it! We had the most lovely holiday at Peralta. The area is very green with lovely olive trees and Peralta is very well kept. Everything is working and very well kept. There are beautiful flowers and small stone plateaus all over the place and a the most breathtaking view over the hills and the sea. Not to mention all the lovely figures and statues created by Fiore De Henriquez, which are places around Peralta.
Our hosts, Kate and Dinah, were very helpfull and welcming. Unfortunately we had a puncturing down the hill and had to take our car to a local garage. However, Kate helped us with everything and drove us all the way to the garage!
The Studio Apartment was very nice with a lovely view, a big double bed, kitchen and a separate bathroom. Everything was working. However, please not that there is no aircondition in the flat and I may get warm during night.
All in all it is certainly a place that we will come back to.

Delightful, unusual and rustic hillside retreat created by the sculptor Fiore de Henriques. Beautiful setting in which to relax and enjoy the Tuscan scenery from the terrace or poolside. Very well maintained with helpful, personable management. Many scenic attractions within driving distance: Lucca, Cinque Terra, Pietrasanta, to name a few. Best restaurant: Locanda Lorena on Isola Palmaria; restaurant launch will pick you up from Porto Venere (a very short and scenic ride). Excellent local bars and restaurants everywhere you go - it's Italy after all!

From the A11 and A12 motorway exit, Viareggio/Camaiore, you head for ''Viareggio' and then 'Camaiore'. We give detailed directions. Note: The last 200 or so yards of our road are very steep and narrow with 2 hairpin bends. A smallish car is recommended, although an Espace & other large cars can make it. The road comes to an end in our car park. From there you walk to Peralta itself (about 200 yards/meter). Larger cars can park below the final steep ascent - we will bring your luggage etc up to Peralta in our tri-porter vehicle (Ape). It is an easy walk from the lower parking area to Peralta.
