Do not rent here

  • 1 of 5

I rented this home with 9 friends for a girls weekend a few months ago. We had to increase our budget in order to afford this place, but it was more affordable than much of the competition. I guess you get what you pay for.

From the time I began interacting with the property manager, my experience was negative. She was short with me and requested immediate response after emailing and calling twice (in the middle of a work day) over non-urgent matters. We were also told a few weeks prior to our rental that we would be charged an additional few hundred dollars because it was a holiday weekend. At that point there was no way we could find another rental, so we were forced to pay it.

As for the property itself, it was fine. Not super fancy and facing an apartment building (the pictures are nicer than the actual view). But, it had a nice pool and hot tub (for which there were no instructions). Getting to and from the property was quite a challenge. What you aren't told is that this house is in a gated community, which requires authorization for every car entering. So, given 10 women and the fact that only 2 cars are allowed on the property, we had several drop-offs. Guests were turned away several times, so I had to call to get them in, a huge hassle. Trying to take an uber home from dinner was also a challenge, since all of us were out together.

We left the house in pretty good condition. I did not wash any linens or make any beds, because we paid a hefty cleaning fee. There were no trash bags in the house, so we made do with boxes and gift bags that we had brought for the weekend. They were all left neatly by the one trashcan. A week later, I was sent an extremely rude email stating that we left the house "a mess" with pictures of towel piles (on a marble floor, putting together all of the towels from downstairs, which they provided, in a central location - I thought we were being really nice), unmade beds (again...isn't that what the cleaning fee covers?) and the clean dishes in the dishwasher. There was potentially 2 legitimate claims that the kitchen was messy and we moved a table. Overall, maybe adding 30 minutes to what we already paid for the cleaners to do. I was told that I would not be getting back $100 of my deposit! Further, it took over a month and me following up in order to get my deposit back. Having seen previous reviews, I should have known better. The problems pointed out years ago still persist. Spend your money elsewhere.

Beautiful home, but..

  • 2 of 5

My family and I recently stayed at this beautiful home. Upon arrival, we fell in love with the home and the location. We did notice some dog hair on the sofa and were a little surprised since we knew pets were not allowed. We are animal people so it really didn't bother us but wanted to make sure they knew it was not us! We also noticed the flooring on the stairs and the basement was not as pictured. It is beautiful but thought it was not very practical since it is so slick when it is the least little bit wet. It did worry us a little since we had small children with us. Even as careful as we tried to be, my husband ended up falling from about the third step all the way down and through the handrail, hitting the marble floor. Thankfully he wasn't seriously hurt but was very bruised and sore. We decided we needed to call the property manager to make her aware of the situation. He did have a glass of tea in his hand and spilled it on the way down. We had to use the white and towels to clean it up since there were no kitchen towels there. The property manager seemed very concerned about his falling and stated she wanted to let the owner know about it. We mentioned at that time about the dog hair on the sofa. She did contact the owner to let him know and called us back after speaking with him. His response was to offer us $100 back from our cleaning fee. I don't know why I expected for him to contact us directly to check on my husband. If I had been the owner, I definitely would have called to check on him. Basically the $100 was compensation for the dog hair and the cleaning crew not taking care of it. We did not let this slow us down enjoying everything the house and area had to offer. It is beautiful and was spacious enough to to never feel crowded. After leaving, the cleaning crew came in and said we left stained towels and had a spot on one of the outside chairs. They sent pictures of the "stains" to show what they were talking about. Since it took them longer to try to clean the 4 or 5 towels and one chair cover, the compensation for the fall/dog hair was pretty much taken back. I guess it takes a lot longer to pour bleach in the wash than to just put soap! I would only hope the towels and washcloths were bleached anyway between guests. It took almost a month to get the deposit back. Again, the towels were stained from cleaning the tea spill from when my 69 year old husband slipped and fell down the stairs. House 5 stars, concern of owner 1/2 stars

Tranquil is the word - a great place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from using this house as a base for a group of adults (family and friends) all visiting St Petersburg from the UK for my son's wedding. We were not disappointed!! The spacious house, recreation room and pool area have the "wow factor" and provided us with a perfect place to relax and socialise together. The website photos are accurate and the views, wildlife, sense of security and privacy are great. The pool and hot tub were very clean and a good size compared to others we have seen. The unpredictable, stormy weather for several days was not typical for July/August in Florida, but we Brits can cope with rain! The house had plenty of space, screens and facilities to keep us occupied when we couldn't go outside. Cooking and dining items, furnishings and bedding were plentiful and mostly good quality/condition. There were more than enough recliners by the pool, and large tables and chairs indoors, on the balcony and even on the dock. It was a treat to watch movies on the outdoor screens - sometimes seated in the hot tub with the pool lights glowing at sunset!

All the bathrooms were excellently equipped and 2 seemed to be brand new. The towels were plentiful and we were happy to use the excellent laundry room to wash and dry most of them before we left.

Our suggested small improvements would include replacing all the non-functioning light bulbs and a few items which are showing signs of age. We would have liked to have bedside lamps in some rooms and window blinds in the bathroom nearest the kitchen! Primarily, we would have appreciated more detailed visitor information about the equipment, fans, switches and controls in the house - it all took some figuring out and some switches, screens and lights didn't seem to work at all. The internet and phone connections were erratic too. Grounds and pool maintenance staff were friendly and efficient but we hadn't realised they would come so were a bit startled by their arrival! However, all of these were small concerns overall as the house was a great place to stay and the agent was friendly and helpful both before and during our stay.

We are expecting the deposit return soon and will book again if we need a house of this size on future visits.

More than an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

The home is in a very nice, safe neighborhood great for morning jogs. The view when you walk in the home is exceptional, and you don't miss anything by being on the bay as opposed to the beach. The home is in great condition, and perfect for multiple couples or families. Each bedroom offers plenty of privacy if you need a break from your friends/family. It is very nice to have a large kitchen to cook, and eating on the upper deck is lovely. The pool and hot tub are very clean and relaxing. You definitely feel like you are at an upscale hotel outside, but you have it all to yourself! The basement with pool table is so nice, and we ended up staying in most of the week with the exception of our wedding. The home is also located very close to grocery stores, and the beach. It is an easy trip to Tampa airport as well. We would love to go back, and highly recommend this home if you are looking for a relaxing, beautiful home with a view!

a beautiful family retreat

  • 5 of 5

i admit after i booked this house i was worried because of some of the reviews i read after my booking. but honestly, i found the home to be immaculate, well appointed and with tons of private space for me and 4 kids who are teens and twenty types. we never saw neighbours so the privacy was great, i didnt worry about noisey kids in the pool bothering anyone. on our last day two dolphins swam up to the dock to say hello. every day was a different outing because the location is ideal for day trips. it is true the bbq was not useable but i emailed the owner with my concern and he indicated he had intended to replace it before we arrived but would do so after our departure so i hope the next guest confirms with him he has indeed replaced it. i would book this house again. ,.

professional in health care-in graduate school working on a masters degree

A group of 8 professional women rented this home for a week to attend a professional medical conference and needed a place to stay together. This home was perfect, affordable for us, and located in a perfect location. The location was beautiful and everything we knew it would be. the problems started after we arrived. We got there and there was no toilet paper, linens on beds were dirty, some of the beds had no pilliows, and no pillow cases. We bought them. A light in the bathroom didn't work, the handle on the shower was broken. the pool was not heated, not were there instructions to find them. We found hair embedded in a wash cloth. The kitchen sink smelled of mildew and the sponges on the sink had mold and mildew on them. The pool had an open sucking filter not covered that 2 of the girls got their fingers stuck in and one got her hip stuck onto it. It was extremely dangerous. None of this stuff was going to ruin our time together and we knew it was a rental, so "it's not going to be perfect", and we didn't mind. However, when it came time to get out deposit back that's when all the bad started. We were charged with an obviously OLD stain on the carpet of one fo the bedrooms that we did not do! Our pictures of the rooms and house on the day of arrival proved that. The stain was present in the picture. We were accused of rearranging furniture in one of the room, and we NEVER touched the furniture, which was obvious from pictures also. We were also charged with missing linens which were the same number when we arrived as when we left. The house was dirty, as the floors were dirty and had hair on them. We just swept it and cleaned it up. Then it took months to get a response regarding all of this and to receive our deposit, which was not the amount we expected. We were charged for items and carpet cleaning that wwe should not have been. We are 8 honest professional women and definately were not treated as such. There were other things the other girls noticed that I can not remember, but this is what I was involved with. We paid GOOD money for this place for a week, and were at medical conferences most of the time, so these charges were false. I was very disappointed in the unprofessionalism in the owner and his assistant. There was not significant communication between them, and the stories didn't match. The home is beautiful and offered a great time to us. We appreciated that. The grills were filthy and gross. We wont' be back
