This roomy, multi-level home features a full, modern kitchen and large picture windows. The bedrooms each have queen-size beds, while the loft has a sofa sleeper. The large great room has two large leather couches.
This mountain getaway is our vacation home, and is maintained as a private residence rather than a rental. It's fully furnished including a washer/dryer, a two-car garage, a telephone, and two satellite TV systems with VCR, DVD, and surround-sound.
The scenic property has a large wrap-around deck with a gas grill; and there's a natural spring in the yard.
Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobile trai: Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobile trails, fishing, white-water rafting, hiking trails from beginners to 14,000-foot peaks, four-wheeling and dirt biking, golfing, hot springs, and local restaurants and shopping are all nearby. 'Chaffee County' is home to Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area. Because of the warm winter temperatures, visitors can ski Monarch or snowmobile one day and spend the next in the sun, shopping, mountain biking, relaxing in hot springs pools, golfing, or fishing all in the same winter weekend. Families and high adventure seekers will find Chaffee County to be one of the best values in Colorado. The Monarch season opens in mid-November, and runs through mid-April. Monarch has an elevation of 10,790 feet at its base, and 11,961 feet at its summit -- with a vertical drop of 1,171 feet. It offers 670 acres of ski-able terrain along the Continental Divide, in the Sawatch Range within the Pike/San Isabel National Forest.
The area has 54 trails with 21% beginner, 37% intermediate, and 42% advanced. Its longest run is two miles. There are five chairlifts (one fixed quad and four double chairs) which run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. Monarch's average annual snowfall is 350 inches.
This home was a wonderful getaway, most especially because of its views.
Although it was mid March we kept very warm, but could never find the heat sources that kept the home so warm. There are floorboard heaters, a woodstove and a thermostat in the bedroom, all of which we never turned on. We kept completely warm though, maybe the sunlight that comes in all the big open windows during the day.
We have stayed here two times before, so obviously we keep coming back. The new carpet and TVs were really nice. The foam tops on the matresses have definitely helped.
Bathrooms are very nice and clean, and kitchen has everything you need and more!
Probably the only thing my family missed was internet services. Although we are not big internet people, we began to realize how limited we were in things like checking the weather, finding out when Monarch Ski area opens, locating restaurants, and being able to get phone service through the internet. It didn't kill us though. We spent more time playing games and reading, so I think it was still plus! Thank you Robin and Dave for sharing your beautiful home.
Nice rental overall. Expensive if no other adults staying. Moderately clean, but kitchen well stocked and lots of videos and games to occupy the family. No places to hike directly from home and driveway and highway entrance difficult. Otherwise very quiet and private.
Comfortable cabin with plenty of room and minutes from Monarch
Fully stocked house! Great cabin feel. Family and kid friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a great stay at the mountain house. The owner was easy to work with and ensured that we had everything we needed. The house itself was equipped with everything you could need for a great weekend including firewood for the stove, endless kitchen utensils including a crock pot, tons of pots and pans and even a large griddle. The house was large enough for our group of 5 couples with 3 bedrooms, a loft and two pull out coaches in the living room. And i feel obligated for the guys in our group to mention that the movie selection was great so when it rained we were able to relax and watch movies. The house is about 20 mins from Salida which is a great town to explore. There is no phone service in this area so you have to drive about 10 mins if you need to use a cell phone but the house did have a land line that you could use with a calling card. Overall it was a great place.
We are located on the north side of Hwy. 50, across the highway from the residential city of Garfield. The house is secluded with aspen and pine trees, and has a natural spring flowing through the backyard behind the deck. We are just 5 miles from Monarch ski area, with snowmobiling just minutes away, as well as fishing and hiking the 14,000 foot mountain peaks nearby. White water rafting and shopping are just a 20 minute drive towards the historical city of Salida. There are also several hot springs resorts and pools within 30 minutes of the house. Every season of the year brings a wonderful natural setting on the property, including the red and yellow aspen leaves, serene winter snowfall, and gorgeous plants and flowers in the spring and summer, with hummingbirds buzzing around the deck! !
Golf: There are 3 golf courses in the area
Ski: Monarch ski area is just 5 miles from the house, and Crested Butte is about an hour away.
