We invite you to share in our home away from home, Mele Kai (ocean song). Located on the West side of Maui. This is a smaller condo complex unlike the big resorts. View sea turtles or whale watching in season, sunsets, and island views of Molokai and Lanai are yours to enjoy from two ocean front lanais.
This large 1,400 square foot condo is located so close to the ocean you could throw a stone into it. Both oceanfront lanais (balconies) in our two-story condo boast extraordinary views. Since the condo is a corner unit, you have spectacular panoramic ocean views all the way down the coast.
The condo has a beachy feel, perfect for a casual vacation. The main living area is spacious with a dining area and seating for six. A lanai overlooks the ocean, so you can expand the living area outdoors for full indoor/outdoor living. Enjoy gazing over the ocean, or just listening to the waves.
The Master bedroom is the premier bedroom, being oceanfront with full ocean views. It has its own private lanai and full bath with a tub. The second bedroom is upstairs and has a king bed and a full bathroom with tub. The third bedroom is downstairs and has a pair of twin beds that can be converted to a third king, and access to the half bath downstairs. Each bedroom is fully enclosed offering privacy. The beds are high quality and comfortable. There is central air conditioning or balmy trade wind breezes.
The grounds are tropically landscaped and offer lounge chairs, outdoor seating and 4 gas grills oceanfront. The heated pool is warm, private, and has an outdoor shower.
Honokowai is located North of historic Lahaina town, between Kaanapali and Kapalua resorts, and is a half mile from a grocery store, shops, coffee house, and a farmer’s market. A beach walk extends from nearby Duke's Restaurant all the way to Kaanapali Beach. There is a bus stop (busses every half hour) in front of the building if the kids want to go explore on their own. World class resorts, famous beaches, championship golf courses, and even ferry rides to Lanai and Molokai are within 15 minutes driving time or less. We invite you to enjoy our piece of paradise as much as we do.
We come here yearly to visit family. It is a great place to visit and get away from all the stress of real life. The ocean is nice and warm and the view is perfect. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your condo. It is a nice place to sit and enjoy the scenery. We also like the wooden sea turtle on the wall.
I loved this place. As mentioned in prior reviews, the condo is well taken care of and very well-stocked. Melissa was extremely helpful throughout the booking and planning process. Can't get much closer to the water!! Love that view and could stare at it all day/ night. This is a great value for an oceanfront place - and Kahana is a great location; walking distance to Maui Brewing, Dollies, Miso Phat, etc. Just a couple suggestions - I would have loved to have a bistro table and chairs out on the patio (i.e. higher up so you can see over the railing while sitting). The wooden slats on the railing are thick and they block the view when you are sitting on the outdoor furniture, thus I always felt like I need to be standing up to take advantage of the view. The other thing that would be nice is to have a few cheap sets of snorkeling equipment available so people don't have to rent. I brought my own this time but would love to have it available there. All in all, I highly recommend this place. Oh, and I was concerned about road noise as I am very sensitive to it, and it was not an issue in this unit at all. Thanks Melissa!
We are almost through our 10 night stay and have nothing but great things to say about the accommodations and the staff at Makani Sands.
This is not your glitzy resort where people go to be seen. If you are looking for quiet, awesome views and a very comfortable accommodation, this is it!
We are staying with our two daughters and their spouses and the three bedrooms are very comfortable. The facility has only a small number of units so you are not constantly battling for space by the water.
There are 4 bbq's on the patio which are more than adequate for all guests. We never ran into any problems.
You are also located within walking distance to grocery stores and restaurants. If you like a longer walk, the Beach Walk is just down the road which takes you all the way into Whalers Village and beyond.
We will definitely return in the future.
This corner unit was great and alowed us to see Lanai and the island of Molokai. The top balcony was a great place to escape to in this two story building though we spent most of our time on the downstairs balcony with the kids and family. There was a nice tv but no need to watch it as the action was taking place outside our windows. Rainbows and turtles in the morning and one day some dolphins swiming by out side the reef. I saw coral and many fishes in the reef out front and we used the pool while my son was learning how to swim. A very comfortable welcoming place I thought. I will recomend this to family and friends.
This condo cost several thousand dollars for a two week stay, what with taxes and all. We (two couples) felt that was a fair exchange for what was promised in this VRBO listing. Truth be told, this condo did meet many of our expectations, perhaps even most of them. However...
The very good stuff: the views from the lanais (both LR and Master BR suite) were simply awesome. Seating/table for four (LR lanai) and chaise lounges on the Master lanai. During whale season there is visible-to-the-eye evidence from dawn to dusk. With binoculars (not part of the condo supplies), the views can be spectacular. Whales all around, Lana’i to the left and Moloka’i to the right, the chance for beautiful sunsets (behind Lanai in the winter), rainbows – really nice! (You can also watch the sun rise over the West Maui mountains from the parking lot – not quite as nice) The spacious master BR suite is the nicest part of the condo.
The acceptable, just-what-we-paid-for stuff: a functional kitchen, working appliances, ample dishes/silver/utensils, ample towels.
The not-so-good stuff we did not pay for - on arrival: No hot water; two (of 3) toilets overflowed on the first flush. (notifying the on-site manager resolved both issues, tho’ it took two days.) LR loveseat was broken/non-functional – so not enough lounging/seating for four adults. A/C units are on timers, and must be re-set per 4-6 hours. The “second master BR” is quite small, but has its own ensuite bathroom. There is a little closet space, but no chest/dresser/storage drawers. The condo A/C units are housed in this BR – which is both good and bad news. The good news is that the ‘white noise’ from the units blocks out the ever-present sounds from the street, parking lot, pedestrians, kids waiting for the school bus at 6am, trash truck warning beepers, roosters crowing, etc. The bad news: when the A/C cycles off, all those noises come right in.
The not-so-good stuff arising during our stay: very large cockroaches in kitchen. Slider to LR lanai locked itself upon closing twice (leaving someone stranded on the lanai each time)
The A/C broke down; took three nights to repair. Sleep was affected in two ways. Higher than comfortable temps in the BRs made sleep difficult and sweaty. The absence of white noise in the 'second master' meant all outside sounds were audible, all night long, for three nights. Whew!
Bottom line: For us, this property was not worth the expense. We would not return.
