Bill and Suzie Anderson moved to Platte Lake in 2005. Bill is a managment consultant and retired college administrator. Suzie is a retired RN and master gardner and operates a garden design and maintenance business.
Suzie purchased this apartment in 2000
We have vacationed in this area our entire lives. This property has been in Suzie's family since the late 1920's while Bill's family has owned property since 1905 located just 15 minutes away on beautiful Lower Hering Lake. For many years our dream was to retire to this area. Our lakehouse home is a makeover of the original cottage and has been included on the annual Charity Tour of Interesting Places.
Platte Lake is a very quiet low traffic all sports lake with a beautiful wildlife preserve located at the east end where we live. We can leave our home in kayaks and in 10 minutes be enjoying the solitude and beauty of the Platte River while others are enjoying water sports on the lake. Three golf courses are located within a ten minute drive and Traverse City is just 25 miles away. It's no wonder that many prefer to call this 'God's Country'.
The guest house was even more cozy and comfortable than we expected from the pictures. We had everything we could need, from kitchen utensils to plenty of towels and blankets. It was so quiet and peaceful on Platte Lake, we were able to get plenty of relaxation in between trips to the nearby dunes, beaches, towns, and wineries. Suzie and Bill respected our privacy while being very accommodating, getting us life jackets for our canoe trip and recommending the best beach in the area. They have made up a huge binder of area restaurants and activities with personal recommendations which we found extremely useful. Perfect place to stay while exploring the area!
This place is clean, new and the view is out of this world. Beautiful gardens surround this spacious apartment that is so well decorated and much thought has gone into furnishing it with comfort in mind. The balcony is perfect for relaxing with your morning coffee overlooking the gardens and the lake and sunsets in the evening on the dock. You don't need to bring anything but your food and clothes on this trip. The hosts have thought of everything you need. The kayaks and canoe provide you with lots of fun to explore the beautiful lake with. I will be going back here for a longer stay! 5 Stars!
The guest house looks exactly like the pictures. The King bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had everything you would need. A beautiful view of the lake from the windows in the living room and master bedroom. The balcony looks out on lake and garden. Suzie is a master gardener, so the yard is truly beautiful. My husband went kayaking everyday! I went twice and the lake, river and sanctuary were so very beautiful with swans, eagle, turtles and ducklings nearby. Lake Platte has a sand bottom and starts out very shallow. The guest house is near the Cherry Bowl Drive-in which is so fun! Also so close to Lake Michigan and great hikes in the Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore. We would highly recommend Northwest Michigan and Suzie's guest house.
Everything you need and more. Convenient to the area and Platt Lake is fantastic. Suzie and Bill are great people and very accommodating. Highly recommend using the canoe and kayaks as the lake is peaceful and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend to friends and stay again when we are in the area.
The guest house has everything you need. It is fully equiped and
exceeded our expectation. The owners are excellent hosts.
Having the opportunity, we would stay here again.
We had a great time, Suzi was wonderful. It was a chilly day when we arrived but the guest house was toasty & warm. Suzi has truly thought of everything, aluminum foul, ziplock baggies, lotions, soaps luxurious towels & linens, spices for cooking. I could go on & on, the house was well stocked. The King Size Bed was very nice (my husband & I both have bad backs, but woke up each morning with NO aches & pains this is highly unusual when we are away from home.)
The view of the lake is great. We sat by the lake and had wine & cheese. There are several houses pretty close together, but it served our purpose just fine. We come to the area every year for our anniversary.
