Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

Aloha and welcome to Mika Mizu, serenity in Hilo. Here you will experience a unique and memorable Hawaiian vacation. Mika Mizu is a spacious, but cozy one bedroom cottage, all on one level, no steps! This beautiful cottage is located in a soothing and natural setting with waterfalls and abundant flora and fauna. It is less than one mile to historic downtown Hilo, yet you feel far removed.

Mika Mizu was designed for 2 guests, but will comfortably accommodate 3. The cottage is stocked with amenities such as spices and cooking staples in an efficiency kitchen with a full size refrigerator, a built-in 2-burner stovetop, a microwave/convection oven, a toaster and a gas BBQ grill for outdoor cooking. Also provided are both high speed WiFi and cable TV. It has been tastefully furnished in a casually elegant Island style, creating a very congenial ambiance for your comfort and enjoyment. You will be amazed at this wonderful vacation find.

Hilo is the second largest city in the Hawaiian Islands. There is a four-year University of Hawaii campus in Hilo, several fine restaurants, a Tsunami museum, and interesting events occurring at all times of the year. The natural beauty of the area is astounding. Many waterfalls, nature hikes, boogie boarding, surfing, botanical gardens, and scenic drives through rainforests are all nearby. Volcano National Park is approximately 45 minutes away. Kailua-Kona, the tourist area of the Big Island, with its many high-end Kohala Coast hotels, is one and a half hours away. Waimea, the paniolo (cowboy) region of Parker Ranch fame is approximately one hour. The Waipio Valley and its lovely lookout is one hour. You can take helicopter rides over this taro-filled valley with its dramatic cliffs that plunge to the sea. You can do the same if you wish to see what our very active Kilaeua Volcano is up to. And Mauna Kea, our gigantic mountain with its world renowned Keck Observatory, might be snow capped while you are here - quite the sight looking up from the shores of the blue Pacific.

Note: Mika Mizu is not appropriate for children under 6 years

About Sara/Jamie

We met in Hawaii, fell in love in Hawaii....and the rest is history. Now we get to share our good fortune with guests from around the world.

Why Sara/Jamie chose Hilo District

We are happy to have this wonderful cottage in Hawaii, and we love the Big Island, its many sights and its friendly people. Hilo gives one the chance to get a feel of the real Hawaii. The Farmers Market in town is a profusion of color from the many exotic flowers, fruits, and native crafts. One comes away with one comes away with a special feeling after exploring this unique area.

What makes this house unique

Great price for a beautifully furnished, comfortable and spacious cottage, located right in Hilo. Easy to get to many of the Big Island sights, lots to do and see.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We very much enjoyed staying at the cottage, it was very comfortable and the sound of the frogs plus the rain on the roof was fantastic!

Cheers!

YES, THREE TIMES A CHARM

  • 5 of 5

Aloha, this is our third consecutive year and review at Mizu , 17 days this visit, and it's like coming home. It is so comfortable and spacious for the two of us and it is always well maintained and clean and inviting. The decor is just lovely. We love the old town feel of Hilo and the many activities on this side of island. We appreciate the 'well-oiled machine' of Jamie and her husband, Sara, Adan and housekeeping that keep everything running smoothly from inquiries and booking to our sad farewell for another year. Mahalo!

Stylishly comfortable, a Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

Mika Mizu is stylishly comfortable and has a great tropical forest right off the deck. The decor and the finishing touches have personality that was well put together. There is everything you need to cook, communicate, and be entertained both inside and outside. The bathroom, including the shower, have plenty of natural light and room. We enjoyed the geckos, and also the wonderfully informative Hawaii Revealed book by Doughty on the bookshelf - it was a book we found at the other vacation home too - it enriched our stay on the big island with its wealth of touring information and humor. Thank you sooo much for making our stay a wonderful experience!!

Surrounded by green.

  • 4 of 5

The cozy "cabin" had beautiful windows looking into tall trees, vines, and birds. The shower had an openable glass wall to the outside. The walk to downtown was interesting and good exercise.

We signed up for 3 people, ourselves and our daughter. The couch in the living room for the third person was uncomfortable and upon arrival I had to call to be directed to the storage place for the sheets for the couch. The cabin did not have an oven. FYI, the light in the microwave that illuminated the counter below burned out while we were there.

Awesome location

  • 4 of 5

This is probably one of the best places to stay on this side of the island. The balcony that overlooked the rain forest is awesome. Checking in was very simple and no trouble at all. The owners were very friendly and accommodating with each communication. The place does not have AC but it cools down enough at night to be suitable for sleeping. It has all the necessary amenities except an oven. The owner provides a thorough welcome book with everything you need to know. If you are not used to staying in this type of nature, be prepared for a musty/moldy smell at times. BUT the view is totally worth it and you get used to it very quickly. The city of Hilo was rougher than expected so I am so glad we found this tree house instead of a motel in the city. The waterfall just out back is an awesome bonus! No real complaints about this place. I definitely recommend this stay.
