A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful property, which I cannot recommend highly enough. We were 7 in our party, so were very comfortable spread over the 4 bedrooms. I think it would be crowded with 14 though. The house was clean and tidy and all the furnishings and equipment are of the highest quality. Patrick, the landlord, was very friendly and helpful. Although on one occassion we were warned at the metro that the area was not safe to walk around at night, we felt perfectly safe walking to and from the metro, though we did not do this late at night. It is a short metro ride to the centre of Washington. Highly recommend hiring bikes from Thomson boat and cycle hire as a way of seeing the main sights. Do not bother with the Double Decker bus tours - they do not run frequently or regularly, nor do they keep to their scheduled route and stops. A complete waste of money and a precious days sight-seeing.

Owner's Response: This is a very safe neighborhood from the Metro stops. The area is established as a historic district. I live in the area and I find it to be as safe as any location in DC. This is the only neighborhood that I would live in DC. I love it, it is quiet and friendly.

Good choice

  • 5 of 5

Interesting to stay in a home like this. Quiet neighborhood. Home was clean and met our needs. Location not bad as far as getting to where we were visiting. The contact person was very helpful when we had questions. Some concerns we did have for future guests were how close the bed in basement was to the walls. Made getting in and out and making bed in the AM difficult. Less collectibles on end tables and dressers so guest can use the area. Water pressure in the tub in upstairs hallway bathroom was really low. Need to notify guests that they need 4 quarters to start the drier and that they will be able to reuse the quarters for additional loads.

Glad this home was available for our visit to Washington DC!

Great for 5+ people

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a wonderful stay, loved the space in the house and the surrounding neighborhood. The outside deck was a perfect place for relaxing at the end of our busy days. The only reason we couldn't give the house 5 stars relates to the residence needing more attention to detail, such as the broken table top on the front porch, inadequate lighting near the bed downstairs, dirty kitchen table & chair cushions & placemats that need to be replaced, as well as a torn and moldy shower curtain in the small bathroom upstairs. All fairly small inconveniences, but important to the overall impression and use.

It was great!

This place was great! Clean, easy to access, and the hosts were very communicative. It was the perfect size for us and we loved hanging out on the back patio. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely town home in a great neighborhood

  • 3 of 5

This was a great home for my family of 8 for our week-long visit to DC. The neighborhood is lovely. The home is only a 10 minute walk to the Metro station with easy access to all of the major attractions. The home was roomy enough for all of us to have space. We especially enjoyed sitting on the back patio when the weather was nice. It was quiet with plenty of seating for all of us. The master suite is quite large. There are two additional smaller bedrooms with queen beds and ample closets on the upper level, with a shared bathroom. The basement level is all open, with a king sized bed, a futon double bed and an L-shaped couch. It was fine for my 3 teen-aged sons but not very private. There is a small TV and DVD player in the basement so for movies we had to invade "their" space. The main floor includes a comfortable sitting room and a sizable dining room with a large dining table with ample space for the 8 of us. The kitchen is adequate with a large refrigerator but not much pantry space for other groceries unless you're really tall. The kitchen cooking equipment was okay - the knives need sharpening, there isn't much baking equipment, and the oven needs calibration. There were plenty of dishes and silverware but only one wine glass and one champagne flute. The toaster and coffee maker were of good quality. Overall the house has a lovely charm and character and we found it warm and welcoming. The negatives we would report are all fixable: several burned out light bulbs throughout the house and some of the furniture - particularly the dining room table and some chairs - were rickety and need repair. We found the house to be fairly clean on our arrival except for candy wrappers behind a bed and a previous occupant's dirty laundry in a bedroom closet. Finally, we were unclear if someone was to meet us at the property on our arrival. We were given a number to call when we were heading toward the property. We called and she didn't answer but then she called back about 45 minutes later and said she would meet us there but she never showed up. While we ultimately didn't need her to show us around the property and guide us through how things worked we were under the impression that she would be meeting us there. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent this property again.
