One of the most spectacular coastal areas of Maine, Pemaquid Point Peninsula offers spectacular views of crashing surf, the famous Pemaquid Point lighthouse, and the magical Island of Monhegan.
Nearby Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, and Christmas Cove offer excellent dining, shopping and much more.
'Summer Hill' is a charming 1930's waterfront cottage. It sits on 3 private acres and is quiet and secluded yet close to all amenities. The bright, sunny interior is furnished with vintage wicker, old hickory, and oriental rugs, and you will feel as though you have stepped back in time.
Enjoy reading, relaxing or eating your steamed lobsters and clams on the large deck surrounded by soft ocean breezes, lush fern gardens and trees.
Summer Hill has queen size beds in both the first floor master bedroom, and sleeping loft, accessible by short ladder, as shown in photos.
Rent a kayak or canoe and hop in at waters edge for a great day of boating or swimming in Round Pond Harbor.
This is a very special place to relax and get away from it all!
Within minutes of the cottage enjoy the famous Pemaquid Point lighthouse and its museum. The crashing surf surrounds you as you take it all in. Bring your picnic dinner and wine for a sunset you will never forget!
Enjoy the Seagull Cafe next door for delicious Maine blueberry pancakes or one of the many delicious nearby eateries which offer the best local seafood you can imagine!
Enjoy a short cruise to the infamous Monhegan Island where some of the most famous American painters (both past and present) reside, most notably The Wyeth family, for an experience you will never forget. Walk the bluffs and take in this special place that time has hardly changed in a century or more.
Enjoy a Puffin cruise and watch the local sea-life up close.
Go shopping, antiquing and stroll through the local charming villages of Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, Camden and Rockport, which are all nearby. There are wonderful restaurants in every village and hamlet for you to enjoy.
Golf, tennis and the local YMCA are close by too.
Enjoy the freshest seafood around, especially our world famous lobsters, oysters and haddock.
Summer Hill offers a cozy and charming retreat yet is just minutes away from all the attractions. Come enjoy the wonderful place called Maine!
Come visit a vintage 1930's cottage on the lovely shore of Round Pond which "is" the ocean. It is an enclosed outlet of the ocean and is very safe for swimming and kayaking.
Kayak to the Anchor Restaurant or hug the shore and watch nature up close!
Calm and beautiful, come and enjoy!
We ended up with an unexpectedly large family reunion for a week, but I had booked this lodging when I thought we would be a small group. As a consequence, I saw many lodgings (including 3 just for me and a friend during the week). And this one was the best of the lot, if you value a bit of seclusion, flexibility in terms of how many people can be accommodated, a beautiful and scenic setting on the water, a handy location to Round Pond and beyond, and want to swim (or kayak -- we rented one to have at the edge of the property and my kids swam daily), bring a dog, and be welcomed in a very personal and appreciated way!
It was very clean, light and bright, well-equipped and comfortable. An ideal rental.
Summer Hill Cottage was a wonderful getaway - up front and close to nature and the water as well as Maine delights. We awoke to the birds singing every morning on the very private property which was well maintained. In the evenings - we walked to the edge of the property that sits on Round Pond - beautiful. The cottage was very nice - clean with lots of sunlight from the 3 sides of windows. Both the kitchen and bathroom were well stocked - items you wouldn't even expect, toothbrush, razors, etc. The deck provided a place to relax and watch the birds while we ate dinner & breakfast. Summer Hill Cottage is very close - approximately 3 miles - to a very nice set of hiking trails called La Verne. Some of the trails offer beautiful water views. It is also fairly close to many small towns. There are several lighthouses within driving distances. Also - please make sure you visit Dot's Bakery for a delicious meal and take home a pie - as well as great local conversation. We took home 2 pies. Laura was wonderful - easy to work with and very quick to reply while we were setting up the trip. This is an exceptional get away - there was even a surprise gift when we arrived. We and the dogs will return and highly recommend the cottage. Thank you for the wonderful week!!!
Delightful private setting -- lots of trees, lawns and plantings. Views of harbor and boats down to the shore, which is a short walk on a path and a pier (comfortable places to sit on the way down and back up). The cottage itself exudes charm and comfort -- cathedral ceiling, warm pine paneling, natural light through huge windows in the living room, great open deck, sleeping loft and double-bed in bedroom. The owners seem to have thought of everything one could possibly want re: appliances and utensils, linens, cleaning supplies, etc. Quite amazing to find all the modern conveniences (internet access, for ex.) in such a charming retro cottage. This would be a good stop on a tour of Maine coast attractions -- it's not far from several light-houses, the Farnsworth Museum, midway between Portland and Acadia NP, for ex)Round Pond village has a great place for lobsters on the pier, plus a more traditional restaurant (the Anchor). Handicapped accessible for those with a cane and an arm to lean on when outdoors. Would happily return -- and recommend!
My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful week in this lovely, well stocked cottage on the banks of Round Pond, Maine. Laura's driving directions were perfect and we were pleasantly surprised by what we found on arrival. A well stocked, pretty little cottage in the woods. We shared the cottage with our 30 year old niece for the first two nights and the space was perfect for the three of us.
The grill worked well for our outdoor cooking needs. Our favorite meals out included two excellent meals at Anhor Inn, a delicious lobster to be had at Muscongus Bay Lobster Co., and morning visits with Dot and Joe at Dot's Bakery, all within two miles of this quaint cottage!
We took two trips to the Camden area and enjoye a five-star dining experience at Primo, in Rockland. Day trips included a visit to Damariscotta, a refreshing dip in the Bristol Pond, a bone-chilling swim in the ocean at Pemaquid Beach, the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and a very fun voyage to Monhegan Island on the Hardy Boat!
We've been travelling to Maine annually, from Wisconsin, for over 30 years to visit family in Portland. Being tourists in Maine is a somewhat new experience for us. Round Pond, it's environs, and most of all this lovely cottage, all contributed to one of our best vacations yet!
The only drawback was the Mosquitos at sunset. But, the cottage was well stocked with repellant! Oh, who is the little old lady that walks down the hill on the property for her daily swim in the ocean?
We had a wonderful time relaxing at this little cottage on the Pemaquid peninsula. The owners have set it up with everything you would need for an easy week away -- rain or shine. The cabin itself is comfortable, has a lot of charm, and is very private. The rental location is not so far down the peninsula, which makes getting around the area very easy. We found the owners and caretakers very helpful and responsive. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
We just returned from 2 weeks at Summer Hill and we absolutely loved it! First, the location was incredibly private....we could see no other houses from the cottage and we felt like we were alone in the woods. It was just the right size for the two of us, and we had guests for three evenings who were very comfortable in the loft. We loved the bright and sunny living room...perfect for relaxing and reading and listening to great music from the classical station. Summer Hill exceeded our expectations....very clean, well-maintained and the kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. Plus there was a very nice gas grill on the deck! The kitchen was somewhat quirky, with the original 1930's cabinets and windows, but that just added to the charm...and it had plenty of cupboard space and everything we needed. A nice surprise was the supply of extras in the bathroom....even some brand-new toothbrushes, just in case. Another nice surprise was a welcome gift....I won't give away the secret, but it is homemade and yummy! The cottage has exactly the character we love...the quaint charm of an earlier era, but with all the modern conveniences. Even great wi-fi and satellite TV!
We loved the proximity to everything. Damariscotta -- which is charming and has great shops and galleries -- is just a short drive away. There are great restaurants in Round Pond and we loved the breakfast at the Seagull, next to the Pemaquid Lighthouse. Don't miss the Granite Hill Store...charming housewares, a great selection of penny candy and ice cream. It was like an old-fashioned general store. And of course, the Pemaquid Lobster Co-op where we had several great meals....not just lobster but great chowder too! We love antiquing and there are many shops within an easy drive....and we never miss Moody's Diner up in Waldoboro....a midcoast Maine tradition.
This was our first trip back to Maine after an absence of several years....but we will definitely be back and now we can't imagine staying anywhere else! We will definitely recommend Summer Hill to family and friends....it is a little piece of heaven in the woods!
