Reidar's Retreat contains a rustic cabin, comfortable and cozy, set in a secluded North Carolina mountain setting. Not a bit of drywall to be found, just all natural wood, stone and earth from the bottom up.
The cabin and a pavilion are nestled in the middle of eleven acres which was carved out of the side of a mountain. The surroundings offer a view that captures all the senses of serenity, revealed to visitors from the comfort of two rocking chairs on the the covered porch.
Hiking paths and all the natural settings are there to give way to God's friends that parade around in their own neighborhood without fear or obstruction.
Every retreat in this environment seems to lead to a discovery of one's inner secrets, implemented by some form of creative display of art. I have labeled this 'one's find'. There are some on display in the front rock garden and along the porch deck.
The property is very private. A good section of the land around cabin is cleared and offers space to spread out and enjoy. Children have room to run and play. There is an outside fire pit and a pavilion with a smaller fire pit to enjoy in the event of rain. Very peaceful and enjoyable relaxation.
We are within a reasonable to drive to Boone, Ashville and Blowing Rock. We are located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway which offers beautiful scenic drives.
We recently stayed here and had an awesome time. We had family coming from 3 different states and it was so nice to have a place we could all stay together. It's really close to lots of activities and the cabin itself was so nice. We felt very secluded even though it wasn't far from town. I loved the wood cabin smell as soon as you walked in. The kids really enjoyed the bunk bedroom. Everything was well put together and clean. There was plenty of outdoor space for us to get together as well. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you to the owners for sharing their lovely home with us!
We found "Reidar's Retreat" had the right accommodations -very relaxing and cozy-for our family get together and was glad there is a fire-pit to use. The rental has a nice selection of reading material and literature of things to see/do in the area.
We were thankful for the map and directions that was provided as it helped us find our
way around (the street sign to the rental should be more visable).
We had a very nice stay. We arrived in this mountain cabin on Thanksgiving evening to a bed of light snow and had a quiet & peaceful family weekend. The cabin was as described and as shown in the photos. The owner was very helpful in giving directions. The only drawback, which was minor, was the refrigerator had some things left behind and could have been cleaner. The views were very nice and the cabin was comfortable. A nice getaway for a family retreat.
My family and 80 year old father spent 4 nights at Reidars Retreat and loved it. The house is beautiful with 3 different deck areas to hang out in. We had meals on all the decks and loved sitting out in the great weather. We left 18 days of 95+ degree weather for high's in the low 80's and lows in the high 50's. The kids loved sleeping up in the loft and in the bunk-beds. The firepit is great to sit around under the stars on a cool night.
There is lots to do in the area including hiking the waterfall by Little Switzerland, swimming in the Toe River at Carolina Hemlocks(lots of fun) and going to see the great view at the top of Mt. Mitchell. The neighbor Ed is very helpful in terms of informing people of all that can be done for fun in the area.
We will be going back. Thanks Gil and Fran.
Highly recommend this cabin for a stay! You are only minutes from Little Switzerland, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Spruce Pine. Yet, secluded enough to enjoy turkey, deer, flying squirrels, rabbits, and other animals from the porches. The cabin is terrific! It has tons of amenities, lots of space, and the local housekeepers do a wonderful job making you feel at home and give great ideas/directions to local attractions. They directed us to some waterfalls in the area as well as bluegrass music at the Orchard at Altapass. This was easily one of the best family vacations we've had.
The cabin is so beautiful! Everything we need is provided. We got "snowed in"
for 4 days just before Christmas, and it was wonderful fun! Sledding right outside the door. The cabin was warm, cozy and comfortable. The best family vacation we have ever had.
