House: The appeal of this property lies in its versatility. It is traditional, yet contemporary with open spaces and cathedral ceilings, french doors and high windows for light. There are decks and a jacuzzi tub, but the house still retains its classic feel of a Vermont Cape with wide pine floors, a lovely fireplace, classic lines and its simple but elegant decor. It is small, but roomy and can accomodate one family but is also an economical option for two. It is relatively new and built with comfort and efficiency in mind but does not feel inauthentic. We have wide open fields and woods to walk in, and the house is privately located, but is right off the town road for easy access.
For the Active Types: Depending upon the season you can have your pick of activities. In summer, there is hiking, biking, bird watching swimming, kayaking and canoeing, fishing, horse back riding, and even tubing down the river. In winter, downhill skiing is either five minutes to an hour away depending upon your choice of a small or big slope. There is an indoor skating rink, and groomed cross country and snow shoes trails ten minutes away. In Woodstock and Quechee you can also find work out clubs, tennis and raquet ball, and challenging golf courses. South Woodstock is home of the Green Mountain Horse Association (GMHA) featuring horse events and trials. Here, one can even find nostalgic rides on horse drawn sleighs in the winter.
For the More Leisurely Minded: Woodstock is well known for its fine dining, antique shops and art galleries. Watch a movie in the Historical movie theatre or simply stroll around town and take in the beautiful New England homes. In Quechee or Bridgewater you can eat and shop, but you can also observe nationally known glass blowers, potters and woodworkers at their trade. For the artist or writer seeking inspiration, come sit on our decks or in front of the fire and find the peace and quiet you need to create.
I would highly recommend renting this house. The land is absolutely beautiful with views across fields to distant mountains and then a beautiful wooded area behind the house with trails for x-country skiing, snow shoeing and hiking. The pictures don't do it justice! We rented the house for two months this winter and spent most of our time sledding and skiing right out the back door. The sun room is a beautifully proportioned room with a gorgeous fireplace and many windows - cozy and bright at the same time. Day or night we enjoyed sitting in the sun room. Linens are provided and they are nice quality linens. We slept very well on the comfortable beds (something which is often not the case in a rental.)
The other thing I need to mention is that the house is in pristine condition. Everything is clean and beautiful. The towels are white, the dishes match, and the couches are new and don't have any stains or marks.
We have two young children and the house was very well suited for them. There is a pack n play available for renters. There is plenty of room for two families to be there at the same time. The house is so pretty that it would also make a great getaway for couples.
Another nice feature is that although the house feels remote it is very close to Suicide Six ski area, Woodstock, Simon Pearce, and Hanover/Dartmouth College and all the amenities that are offered in those areas.
Perhaps best of all are the owners of the property. Although we've never met them in person I feel like they are friends at this point. They were incredibly hospitable and responsive to the few minor issues that arose over the two months we were there. They are also very knowledgeable about the area and were able to guide us towards activities that we wouldn't have discovered without them such as skating at Occom Pond in Hanover.
Everyone who visited us at this house had the same impression. It is a wonderful rental!
This picturesque property is desirable for many reasons, but location tops the list. Not only is one of the prettiest little towns in America ten minutes away, but for a rural area the activities and options available are boundless. Hanover NH, a short thirty minutes away is home of Dartmouth College, Hopkins Center for the Arts, the Hood Museum and for children, the Montshire Museum. Quechee is around the corner hosting the Balloon Festival, Simon Pearce, and Quechee Gorge. In Woodstock you will find the Billings Park Museum and Rockefeller Mansion. There are lakes, mountains, ski areas, rivers and miles of hiking trails. Closer to Killington, visit Calvin Coolidge's birthplace, a winery, or go to a summer concert. Burlington, a scenic 1 1/2 hour away hosts the Shelburne Museum and the Mozart Festival. In fact, pick a weekend or a week and something engaging and accessible will be taking place around our beautiful state. Boston is 2 1/2 hours away,Montreal is 3 and NYC is 5 hours..
Other Activities: berry picking and apple orchard, kayaking, canoeing
