This bright, Lake St. Family-friendly Garden Apartment, with it's beautiful garden and patio, is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood that is close to everything (public transit is just 1 block away).
The apartment is located on the ground level of a fully renovated 1912 Edwardian house, with its own private entrance off tree-lined Lake Street.
Great location right across the street from a kid-friendly/dog-friendly (slides, swings, play structure, dog walk) park with tennis courts and a lake. Presidio National Park hiking paths are also across the street. Beach is a 15 min walk, as is the De Young Museum and Golden Gate Park. Bike across the Golden Gate bridge and be in the Marin Headlands in 20 minutes. Clement St. restaurants and shopping are only two blocks away and public transit is just a block away (including express buses to downtown in the morning).
The Apartment is newly remodeled and fully-furnished. There are new carpets throughout, and new tile flooring in the full kitchen with dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, stove, and refrigerator. The kitchen with a dining island opens onto the living room; the doors open out to a bricked in garden that's perfect for outdoor dining or relaxing. The main bedroom, has a queen-sized bed and the second bedroom is furnished with a bunk bed with full-sized bed on the bottom and twin on top.
Wireless DSL is free as well as a land phone line. The bathroom is tiled with a vanity and shower. A full-sized washer and dryer is also provided. There is a Pack-n-Play and high-chair available for those with very young children. Parking is on-street (permit is provided).
The apartment is in a safe residential location just steps away from a wide-variety of restaurants and shops.
No smoking. Sorry, this is NOT negotiable.

After years of traveling internationally, we decided to settle down in San Francisco. It's now been (hard to imagine!) over 20 years. When we had kids, we also decided that it would be a great place to raise a family. We have not been disappointed. And as time goes on, we find that living in SF, especially the Inner Richmond/Lake St. is about as perfect a spot as we could imagine.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 1995
We choose the location because of a combination of factors: it's quiet, safe, close to parks, public transit, and walking distance to restaurants/shopping/etc.
Our Garden Apartment is really ideal for couples or smaller families with two children - both young and old. The apartment is located right across the street from a park that kids of people who have stayed here call the 'greatest park in the world'. Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but if you have kids who like to swing, climb, or just feed the ducks, it's wonderful. The location also turns out to be incredibly great - basically 15 mins from everything, including the new California Academy of Science and the de Young.
We travelled with our two young kids, without car rental. This place is beyond our expection and definitely we want to stay there again.
The apartment at Lake street has great location, which is quiet and safe, close to a variety of grocery stores and restaurants, and easy access to public transportation, MUNI. Traffic on Lake street is not much, make it easy to walk around, even with stroller. At night, it is quiet and safe that I am not worried even when sometimes we got back quite late. Lake street is only one street north of the California street, on which California # 1 bus runs all the way east to downtown, and two streets north of Clement street, on which many grocery stores, either Chinese-style (New May Wah is the most popular one) or American style (Smart & Final), located. We even frequently went to nearby Trader joe's and Target, by taking MUNI.
The owners, Matt and Linda are so kind and responsible. Whenever I had any question or ran into any trouble with TV-Cable, internet, or heater, they always helped us quickly. The apartment itself is well-equipped, making it easy for a family of four to stay there for an extended period of time.
Overall we are very satisfied and surely would like to stay there again next time when we are in San Francisco.
The description was pretty on point, which means that we felt like we knew the place already. The instructions to get there were good too. The flat is pretty nice. It's a ground floor but on a private garden, which means that it's really quiet. The neighborhood might feel pretty desert at first because Richmond is a residential area, but when you start adventuring a little, it's actually nice. Bonus points, the Presidio located at about 5 minutes on foot.
Public transportation can be pretty weird in some neighborhoods but it's relatively nice in Richmond. The flat is well situated. Not far from Sutro on one side and from Van Ness on the other side. Getting to Golden Gate Park is a 20 minutes walk. Overall very enjoyable.
The landlords were super nice. They had a crib and a baby chair for our baby daughter and were really eager to help us getting accommodated. Lovely hosts. Every time we had a question, they would be there. It's pretty reassuring when you're on the other side of the world.
We loved the location of the apartment! It was right next to the Presidio which is great for biking and walking. The location was close to public transportation which made it really easy to get around town without a car. The apartment itself was cozy and comfortable and the remodeled kitchen was good for cooking. There were great restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. There was plenty of storage and the Wifi and TV all worked well. We were there for a month and really enjoyed what the immediate neighborhood had to offer. The owner Matt was very nice and changed a light fixture that wasn't working.
The downside was that the apartment was not very clean. Some of the cooking utensils in the drawer had food dried on them, the silverware tray needed a good scrubbing and the kitchen cabinets and drawers needed cleaning and organizing (some of which we did). The bathroom shower was really grimy and we scrubbed that out as well. The 3 bath mats looked like they hadn't been washed in awhile so we washed them. This place could use some TLC (carpet cleaning, etc.) and if it were clean, it would be near perfect.
We could highly recommend this place if it were cleaned and maintained. It not, we would not stay there again.
We usually stay in vacation rentals as we have found they tend to provide a more authentic snapshot of a destination. We were not disappointed with this rental! It was literally steps away from the entrance to Presidio Park and a short (10 minutes or less) drive to downtown SF. Great restaurants were all around the rental, Golden Gate Park was within walking distance, and the location provided very easy access to most of the city's major thoroughfares. We can't say enough good things about the rental and the owners are a big part of that. They made sure we were able to access the rental and were comfortable and settled in, and provided a prompt response to any and all of our inquiries. A great week in a very interesting city, with this rental being a wonderful base camp for the daily adventures!
The apartment's location is very convenient, public transport in less than two blocks. The neighborhood is very quiet but has a rich and interesting variety of shops, markets and oriental restaurants.
The kitchen is perfectly equipped, even to cook as a gourmet chef. We do not hate the need to buy basics as salt, pepper, oil, sugar, etc.
You can rent bicycles for 24 hrs in Fisherman´s Warf and, even the way from the apartment to there have some hills, they are very affordable compared with the rest of the city. The inner route through Golden Gate Park riding a bike is amazing. You can park the bikes inside, between the apartment and the garden.
If food is your driver and oriental it is your favorite you are in the right place.
Matt was always very helpful and useful, answering questions y making suggestions. We were welcomed with a basket full of amenities, gifts and wine... this little details make the difference! Thank you.
My only two minor observations are that trash cans are located just outside the apartment and this generates flies. Although in all honesty the flies were very kind to always remain outside the apartment!
The other point was a peculiar smell that felt when we arrived. I guess it was because it had been recently cleaned and still remained the enclosed moisture. As soon as we opened the windows and doors it's over.
Highly recommended, you will be amaze with all the amenities, useful tools, books, brochures even DVD movies!
We love to stay in vacation rentals when we travel as it usually means a more authentic experience ans specifically being closer to the places locals like to eat and shop. We were also situated in the perfect location. Minutes from the bridge in o e direction and downtown in the other. Matt and Linda were wonderful hosts, ensuring we had immediate access to the unit on arrival and checking multiple times throughout our stay to ensure we had all that we needed. Overall a great stay in San Fran!
