My husband Dave is a Pennsylvanian, and I met him in 1982 when I came from Florida to work with the teenagers at his church for a summer. We married the next year, and have two children who are now grown. Dave is a Princeton University and Southern Seminary grad, and is the retired executive director of our state convention. I am a graduate of Jacksonville University and now have a career I am passionate about teaching students at our local community college. We both hope to retire in a few years and do more traveling, using HomeAway and VRBO to find our accommodations, of course! Our daughter Lauren is a surgical Physician's Assistant in Alabama, and a graduate of Princeton and Emory Universities. She is an accomplished violinist and enjoys competing in triathlons. Recently she became a kidney donor. Jonathan is a Business graduate of The College of New Jersey where he was a Bonner Scholar and swim team member. He loves adventure and has traveled abroad extensively.
Janice purchased this House in 1992
Why Janice chose Dauphin
My husband David and I purchased this home when our two children were small so that we could have a place to get away as a family on the weekends. The appeal of this property was that it felt remote with the natural surroundings, including the river, mountains and lots of wildlife, and yet it is so convenient to Harrisburg and Hershey and all the amenities of civilization. Our primary home is located just a 30 minute drive away.

We had a very nice stay. We were looking for larger home along water that could accommodate our grown children and grandchildren. Very nice home with lots of local attractions. Very nice wild life, multiab eagle sightings
Beautiful river house
When my family decided to go to Hershey, PA for vacation we decided to rent a house. This river house looked very inviting. The owner, Janice and her husband Dave were there to greet us when we arrived and took us on a tour of the house and pointed out things that were important. The house was fully stocked with all the essentials including soaps, shampoos, etc. There were games, reading materials and all kinds of extras. There was even a fully stocked s'mores kit on the table waiting for us which we used around a fire on our last night there. The house was very well taken care of. Very clean. We would definitely stay here again if ever in the area.
Great location with beautiful views of the river!
Our extended family stayed at this beautiful house during our vacation. This house is well equipped with all amenities for cooking and great space for us to hang out both indoors and in the back yard. The kids had their own private space to hang out upstairs. There is a fire pit in the backyard for smores and we did some fishing as well. If water levels are low can do kayaking and tubing along the river in the back as well. Very convenient location to Hershey Park and the Appalachian trail. Dave and Janice live right next door and are so helpful with anything you need! We're looking forward to another visit to their lovely house.
Great time, great host, great friends and a great place. Thank you!
Exactly what we needed!
Thank you so much!! We had the best time. Janice & Dave you were very accommodating. You are kind, friendly, and amazing people. We are very lucky to have met you and became friends!! Everything we could have possibly needed, was at the house. It was fully stocked with necessities from babies to grandparents. The house was clean and everything we expected from the photos. The yard and dock was amazing... the overall experience was more fun than we expected. Thank you for being flexible with our requests and communicating well with us. The property and your home is beautiful! The location of the home is great and we felt safe, secluded, but also close enough to everything we planned out to do. House was perfect for our needs and this was a wonderful trip! Thank you again!
Clean with so many amenities. Our group of 10 had plenty of space and had a great time on the river!
Close by are Hershey Park, Chocolate World, the Amish Dutch Country of Lancaster County, Gettysburg Battlefield and Cyclorama, and in Harrisburg the Civil War Museum, Harsco Science Center and Imax Theater, Lake Tobias Wildlife Park with its safari tour, and the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Arena. Try your luck at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, or visit local wineries and craft breweries. When you get home from a long day, enjoy birding, fishing for rainbow trout and small mouth bass, and kayaking and tubing the lazy Susquehanna in your back yard. Hike the Appalachian Trail or bike or hike an eighteen mile rails to trails loop that is the largest roadless tract of land in Pennsylvania, both within a short drive of the house.
