About Catherine and David
We have owned the Sharpsburg Cottage since 2000. It's our favorite place to spend time as a family. We love hanging out in the yard with our two dogs, Paisley (Golden Retriever) and Willow (Yellow Lab). They love swimming in the River and walking along the Tow Path. The most relaxing time is soaking in the hot tub on the large deck overlooking the yard! Its something you have to experience.
Catherine and David purchased this Cottage in 2000
Why Catherine and David chose Shepherdstown
It is only 1 hr 15 minutes from Washington DC. It is a great get away from the hustle and bustle. You can truly relax here at the cottage. Take a nap on the hammock or unwind in the hot tub.
What makes this Cottage unique
We fell in love with this property because of its location. The C&O Canal Tow Path is located just beyond our front yard. We spend time walking and biking along the path during our visits to the house. There is a small country store two doors down where you can walk and get ice cream. One of the first things we do is walk down to the river and take a dip. We are five minutes from Antietam and close to many other local attractions. We would spend every weekend in the country if we could. The cottage is fully equipped as if it were are primary residence. Our lives have become very busy so we don't get to spend as much time there as we would like, so we have decided to share our wonderful home with others. ENJOY!!

Quiet, Comfortable, Private, Restful
We started with VRBO about a year ago after a very unpleasant experience just setting up an account with AirBnB. We've rented several different places in the past year. All have been excellent and we will happily return to any of them, as opportunity presents.
This is a lovely home in a great location. Very easy to access, good directions and information provided in advance. Well "off the beaten path," yet not so far as to inhibit easy access to other places of interest from there. One could actually just go there and not go out again during one's stay. The house is comfortable enough for that, and the bike path is just across the road.
We used the deck a lot, just sitting and enjoying the solitude.
We weren't able to use the DVD player (It wouldn't read the DVD) or get a computer to sync with the system in order to watch a DVD movie, so we just read and visited instead. (The VCR worked, though, and there was a selection of tapes for consideration. We could donate a couple hundred more, I suppose!) :-)
It was great for our dog, also. He could play and run without concern for traffic or mixing it up with other pets. He was very at ease in the spacious living area, as well.
All in all a great stay and we look forward to reserving it again another time.
Second Visit Excellent
This was our second visit to the cottage and we loved every minute of it. It was very quiet and peaceful and just what our busy family needed to relax and connect. We biked, hiked, visited Civil War sights and relaxed in the hot tub. Our family had a great time!
This was our 2nd time staying here for a Girls Weekend. As before the house was super clean, wonderfully stocked and all around perfect. Catherine is an awesome host and very responsive. It is a very peaceful place away from it all while still being close to lots of things to do. Cant wait for our next weekend.
Nice location, quiet + great hot tub
Enjoyed our stay! Everything you need for a family getaway: clean linens, nice sized kitchen and living room, bikes to borrow and family-friendly collection of video tapes. Cozy and clean!
Cozy Cottage in Country
My husband and I visited the cottage in Sharpsburg in October, 2017. We loved our stay!!!! The cottage is spacious and we enjoyed sitting on the deck breathing in the fresh Fall air. We also discovered a lovely restaurant and Tap house in Boonesboro called "Dan's" where the portions were HUGE and the food was delicious. We walked the C&O canal for a lovely hike. We also went to the Hagerstown outlets which are a 1/2 hour away and got some good deals. Plus, it isn't crowded there, which is a big plus. We saw deer and also lots of birds. Can't wait to go back!! The owners take good care of the property and the house was in pristine condition when we arrived.
My Antietam Dream Trip!
The Sharpsburg Cottage was a wonderful staging point for our trip to the battlefield, Shepherdstown and Harper's Ferry. The house and property were secluded and it was a joy to stay there!
Bike on the C&O Canal Towpath, canoe/kayak on the Potomac River, Visit the Antietam Battlefield, visit the Charlestown Races and slots (15-20 mintues), Appalacian Trail, Shephardstown, WVa., Harpersferry, Crystal Grottos Caverns, fine dinning, shopping and much more....
