The Mill House is located on one of the most beautiful, tranquil settings you will ever see. It overlooks the lake spillway on beautiful Mirror Lake. The Cullasaja River wraps the house surrounded by Native Rhodedendren and Mountain Laurel. Kitchen totally renovated Spring 2013.
You can hear the sound of rushing water from every room. It has a large deck, comfortable screened porch and an upstairs covered porch overlooking the river on two sides of the house and a sitting area next to a goldfish pond overlooking the river and Mirror Lake. This completely renovated authentic mill makes a delightful setting for relaxation. Kitchen newly renovated 2013.
A water wheel, rushing water, 2 canoes and a river full of fish, all available on the same beautiful property. TRULY BEAUTIFUL and that is just the outside. The completely renovated house (with lots of history) has a family room, den, master bedroom with sitting area, fireplace and beautiful view, 3 other bedrooms, and a bunk room with 2 sets of bunk beds (4 bunk beds). There is a screened porch w a water view that opens to both the downstairs den and kitchen.
There are lots of private places to 'sneak away' to relax, read a book, or snooze in the cool mountain air. Great deck for outdoor dining and big kitchen table for indoor dining. Only one mile from downtown Highlands, close to golf, shopping, restaurants, spa and wonderful hiking.
Take a look, you will LOVE it. BEAUTIFUL, COMFORTABLE, RELAXING and all the comforts of home. Great for a romantic getaway or a family reunion. Nothing like it in Highlands; it is truly unique.
We are the Thrasher family and are GA natives residing in Atlanta. We have 3 sons (now have added a wonderful daughter in law and 2 granddaughter) and we love to have great family time together. We love a place to get away from the city in the cool, clean mountain air to unwind and enjoy time together with family and friends. We enjoy hiking, canoeing, exploring, fishing, relaxing, strolling through downtown, eating good meals, enjoy jogging or strolling, doing a little or doing a lot, depending on our mood for the day.
Alicen Phillips purchased this house in 2005
We fell in love with not only the house but the beautiful, relaxing setting. It truly is a unique amazing getaway, yet only 2 hours from Atlanta, and in the city limits of Highlands. And yet, we feel like we are out in the country. It is a great escape from the summer heat of Atlanta.
The house has a wonderful history. It operated as a timber mill in the early 1900's until a family purchased it in the early 1930's and converted it to a cabin to be used as a family mountain retreat. We have been told they had milk cows in the front yard. The original water wheel which provided electricity back then is still in operation today. In the 1980s the house was operated as a bed and breakfast by the daughter of the man that built it. It has been totally renovated and added on to several times, and most recently (Spring 2013) had a total kitchen renovation. The house has all the conveniences, but yet retains the charm of a mountain cabin. Amazing views out of every window, close to town, yet seems remote. Beautiful places to jog or walk. This property seemed to have it all. We have loved it and would love to share it with you and your family and friends.
"Thank you for opening your wonderful home as the setting for a very special family milestone- our parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Nine of us were here to celebrate. We even had a vow renewal ceremony outside with the waterfall as a backdrop. It was so beautiful. Ringing in the New Year here was so fun! So thank you for again for the blessing of being able to commemorate Mom and Dad's Golden Anniversary in such a memorable way. God Bless you!"
My family wanted a chance to get away and celebrate an early Thanksgiving. The Mill House was just perfect. The guys went fly fishing at a nearby river, and the girls went shopping in Highlands and cooked. The kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed the canoes provided, hiking Glenn Falls, and sitting around the fire pit in the evenings. The river wraps around the house and you can hear the rushing water from everywhere in the house. We felt at home the minute we walked in and had a hard time leaving. I would recommend this house to anyone who appreciates uniqueness and charm.
My family and I stayed at the Mill House in September and had an amazing time! Even though the house is just a few minutes away from Highlands, we felt like we were miles away from everything. Since the river runs right by the house, we enjoyed keeping the doors and windows open to hear the sound of the water. We also took advantage of the canoes available and went out on mirror lake - it was beautiful! When the weekend came to an end, I was sad to leave such a nice, relaxing place, but I am excited to go back for another visit! I highly recommend this venue for your next stay!
Oh my goodness, what a great getaway! From every balcony and room you could hear the waterfall. My favorite part was falling asleep with the balcony doors open. I have never seen so many little places to get away. My favorites were sitting out in the adirondacks by the gold fish pond and swinging in the hammock with my niece and nephew. I had never been canoeing before and I absolutely loved Mirror Lake. Mirror Lake was beautiful and I now know why they named it that. The reflections of the homes were beautiful. I definitely plan to make staying at the Mill House an annual tradition.
