Great home for a large group..with a couple caveats

  • 3 of 5

Our family (12 ppl) stayed for a long weekend in October. It was a great home to rent where the family could stay together, play games, enjoy meals, etc. The house was plenty large enough so that we weren't crowded at all. We were out and about Bar Harbor during the days, and really just spent evenings in the home. The gas fireplace was a nice touch!

The only things I feel like I need to mention are some things that have already been touched upon in prior reviews (which makes me wonder why they haven't been addressed yet). The first issue is that for a home which sleeps 12 people, there are only 7 forks in the house!! Thankfully we brought our own plasticware or we would have had to eat in shifts! Secondly, someone earlier mentioned about running out of toilet paper. This is not adequately stocked for the number of people in the home..we just went out and bought some rather than asking for more! Not a huge deal, but when you pay more than $400/night, basics are expected. The one safety issue we noticed was that a side door opened to a 3 ft drop..with no stairs. That door should have a note on it so that it won't be opened in the dark by someone not realizing there are no steps there! And the final thing I need to mention, and it was touched upon by a guest a year ago, is that there are no curtains or shades in some areas of the home where you would expect privacy! The master bedroom only has sheer curtains in it, and the master bath has nothing covering the window at all (right above tub!) The loft bedroom has no window treatment on it. And, the upstairs bath has only a sheer curtain on the window right in front of the toilet and tub! Coincidentally, all of these windows face to the owners' other property. Just saying. Although the home is advertised specifically as private.. we honestly felt like we were in a fishbowl, particularly at night! Some people may not care about privacy, but we just thought that was weird!

Wonderful trip

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just adored this house and the location is very convenient to Acadia, yet outside of the Bar Harbor crowds. Close by and not to be missed: the Schoodic Peninsula (just as beautiful as Mount Desert Island yet less visited and closer to the house), and Ironbound Restaurant (just down the street). The house had everything we could possibly ask for, and we have decided we will be returning each year for our family vacation. My only complaint would be that the piano is badly out of tune (I had brought some piano music to play). Beautiful house in a magical place - highly recommend!

Beautiful Home!

  • 4 of 5

We had a very enjoyable time in this beautiful home right on the water. It was in a quiet neighborhood so it was perfect for a night of relaxation with friends. We went with 3 other couples and everyone had plenty of space. Shawn responded quickly with any questions we had and took great care of us.

It was wonderful! Beautiful and spacious inside.

  • 5 of 5

It was great! Almost everything was just as described - we didn't' need it, but never found the half bath. Kitchen was huge, plenty of dishes, but could use more forks. Big, open kitchen/dining/great room kept us all together, but still space to group out when we wanted to. Electronic door keypad battery went out, but we called it in and was fixed the next day. There was no street sign, but we found the house. Rooms were nicely furnished and decorated. We were four couples in our sixties, but there were lots of kid friendly things for those who need them. Was convenient to go to Bar Harbor, and day excursions north and west. Would definitely stay there again!

Great vacation!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great vacation in Maine at the Oceanfront Chalet. The house had everything we needed with big open space, large kitchen, a beautiful yard and view. We had 4 adults and 5 kids. Playroom downstairs and a nice big yard for the kids to play. We were able to use the kayaks too! If you are coming with multiple families just be aware of the room set up - 4/5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms but only 1 master bedroom has a private bathroom. Mosquitos were really bad so be sure to have bug spray. There is a nice setup outside with a fire pit but mosquitos were so bad we couldn't really use it. House is a nice location with about 10-15 minute drive to Walmart for all shopping/food needs. We spent most of our days doing activities in Bar Harbor/Acadia which we loved. The drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia was longer then we expected - took about 35/40 minutes to get there. Overall a great experience! Waking up every day to this view was just wonderful. The owners were very helpful and reachable. We would definitely go back to this property!

Great property on a quiet cove yet close to everything around Bar Harbor

  • 5 of 5

Property is extremely well laid out with all the conveniences for a large family with children. Large kitchen with indoor/outdoor seating. Views are breathtaking at both sunrise and sunset. Gas fireplace and outdoor fire pit add to the coziness of the Chalet. The downstairs play area provides a wonderful place if the weather doesn't cooperate or just a place to hang out. Kayaking out the back door in a bay area is very calming without the challenges of the open ocean. Flying into Portland keeps your airfare low with a chance to visit L.L.Bean along the way. Weather was perfect!
