About Gail Hille

Gail Hille, a life long Alaskan, can help you with your travel plans. Her partner, John Earle is a commercial fisherman whose love of fishing and the outdoors will help you get headed in the right direction.

Their own home is located next door to the rental and they are here to help with any questions or travel plans.

Gail Hille purchased this house in 2001

Why Gail Hille chose Alaska

Girdwood is an incredibly beautiful valley. Surrounded by glaciers, rainforest, and state park. There is top rated skiing, both on resort and back country close by. The hiking, camping, and fishing is world class. It is a small community full of wonderful people. There is no where else I'd rather live.

What makes this house unique

One of my favorite walks from the house is 5 minutes down the road, into the rainforest for 5 minutes and right to Virgin Falls. It is a beautiful waterfall and quite the favorite for photographers.

We had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful home.

The set up of this home is wonderful for multiple couples. The hot tub was wonderful even in the rain. Our host left a lot of great breakfast food. The only thing you should know is that the driveway is very steep so for someone who has a hard time walking it might be difficult. Thank you Gail for a great time.

Owner's Response: Yes driveway is a steep one. There is a parking place at top of driveway if that helps with anyone having difficulties walking.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks Gail for sharing your house with us! It was perfect three day break for us during our RV trip around Alaska. House was very clean and breakfast supplies were fabulous. We loved trees and shade that provided coolness for the house (especially when outdoor temperatures reached 80's ). While staying in Girdwood we did side trip to Seward for Kenai Fjords tour and went mushing with Iditarod racer Nicolas Petit (that was kid's highlight of the trip). Hot tub looked very inviting but it was too warm outside to enjoy it. Next time...

Alaskan paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented this home for our first trip to Alaska with our two adult sons. There was plenty of room for everyone, delicious breakfast foods including whole bean coffee with cream and the most amazing sourdough bread I've ever tasted. We booked John's charter boat for a glacier kayak trip out of Whittier ( Gail and John gave us great advice on local hiking trails, restaurants, etc. Just couldn't have been a better experience. Thanks so much for everything.

Best rental in Girdwood, Alyeska, Anchorage, Alaska! LOVED IT!!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented many holiday homes over the years, all over the world (in the United States, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom and many more) and this holiday rental is without a doubt THE BEST rental we have ever experienced!

The chalet itself is just brilliant, it has a real cosy feel to it (but it’s plenty big enough) and it has all the mod cons you would expect (great wifi, cable TV, a really well equipped kitchen with a fantastic new oven, a big dishwasher, huge shower and huge bathtub with plentiful hot water and the added bonus of your own laundry room with a big washing machine and dryer) but it feels more like a ‘home away from home’ instead of the usual sterile, sometimes bare rental apartments you often get.

The furnishings are both modern, super comfy and very user friendly plus the design is great! The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in (they have those wonderful memory foam mattresses)!

The big log burning fireplace is just priceless in the winter, making it the ‘picture perfect Alaskan winter retreat’

The outdoor hot tub is about as good as it gets, it’s a late model one which is big and deep and it’s kept pristine clean - there really is nothing better than soaking in it after a big day of skiing or trekking!

The host just is lovely and will help you out with just about anything you could think of, we found nothing was ever too much trouble for her and as she lives close by she’s always on hand to help if you need anything which is great but you have total privacy at all times. So many ‘little extras’ are included with this place it really makes it a fantastic deal!

We could not recommend this place enough, in summer or in winter, we absolutely loved it and can’t wait to go back! I viewed just about every rental in Girdwood prior to selecting this rental (as we were staying for quite a while over the winter) and we couldn’t have made a better decision! I also had a good look around while we were here and nothing compared - this is THE PLACE to stay in Girdwood for sure!

Outstanding! Home away from home in Alaska!

  • 5 of 5

Could not have asked for a better place to stay in Alaska! Our first trip to this amazing state was a fantastic adventure. At the base of the ski mountain and perfect central location to explore the wilderness to the south and Anchorage to the north. The house was amazing. Comfortable beds... Hot tub... stocked fridge... washer/dryer...

Gail and John are perfect hosts. Friendly and Knowledgeable about the immediate surroundings and the state in general. We will definitely be back to visit again.

Five minute drive to Alpine Air Alaska for a helicopter ride to a glacier landing (highly recommended!)

Ten minute drive to Alaska's Wildlife Conservation Center.

Lots of wildlife around. Moose, Eagles, Whales, etc.
