Napa Valley Craftsman Cottage

Bedrooms 1
Space 900 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 30 nights

About the property

Garden apartment: 1 Bedroom, large kitchen, luxurious Bath

Button-cute and recently restored, this Craftsman cottage is within walking distance of the Oxbow Public Market, the Napa River Walk, the Opera House, and more than a few great restaurants, cafes, and tasting rooms. Cool in the summer and cozy in the winter, the flat is comfortable and charming. The fully equipped kitchen will gladden the heart of anyone who likes to cook.

A small patio with cafe table and chairs is a sweet spot to sit over morning coffee or afternoon and evening meals. There's a pretty, green garden with dappled afternoon sun. The living room has a gas fireplace -- a great spot to curl up with a book. The sitting room has a garden view.

PLEASE NOTE: The bathroom is up a short flight of stairs. No handrail is required by the building code because there are only three broad steps. However, for anyone who has trouble using stairs, this apartment would be inconvenient and a very poor choice.

About susan crosby

We will gladly show you our favorite corners of Napa, including restaurants, parks, and walks -- or leave you to your own devices if that's your preference.

susan crosby purchased this apartment in 1998

Why susan crosby chose Alta Heights

The house is in a charming neighborhood, in our opinion. There are a variety of houses built in different eras with big trees and established gardens. A short walk and you have a choice of places to eat, have coffee, or listen to music. The famous Blue Note jazz club and the Uptown Theater host events as well as top bands and solo performers, from Randy Newman to the Napa Film Festival.

What makes this apartment unique

The house, built in 1915, has the ineffable charm of that era. In summer, there's a good chance that some of the plums, peaches and figs; or pomegranates and persimmons in the autumn, will find their way to your door.

Our month here was lovely, enhanced by the warm hospitality of our hosts (Susan and Lucca.)

  • 5 of 5

Besides the comforts provided in the apartment (everything we needed to cook, relax, do laundry) the location was perfect. We took a short walk into the main streets of Napa every morning to visit the Public Market and Model Bakery with fresh food and busy cafes. There were also very nice walks around the neighborhood. We loved taking the Ferry out of Vallejo to San Francisco and enjoyed the sights and small towns in both Napa and Sonoma. The trip to Bodega Head and the sunset cruise out of Tiburon were highlights of our visit. Susan gave us tips for day trips that matched our interests (Hess collection, Port Costa, San Francisco places) that added a great deal to our experience. The music was fun (Friday Napa City Nights) and there was always something to entertain us. This month in Napa was just about perfect and the apartment itself was lovely.

Home Sweet Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I arrived to the moment I left, this felt like home. Susan is an excellent caretaker of the sweet cottage and those lucky enough to call the cottage home for a short while. It is well-stocked and clean and naturally cool even on the warmest of days. The cottage yard/patio is professionally maintained. Susan and Lucca (the dog boss) will check in on you and make you feel at home during your stay but the space is completely private and separate from her home. She was easily reachable by text during my stay for questions and was a great resource of information whenever I needed to be pointed in the right direction. The cottage is an easy walk to town but also removed enough to be peaceful. There are gorgeous hikes to be had from the cottage (which I would never have found on my own) and Napa wineries are a short, easy drive away. The laundry was such a great plus! I am already planning my next trip to my Napa home away from home to visit my new-found friends, Susan and Lucca.

Garden of Eden

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I have been here for two weeks of our eight month stay while he attends the ACAP program at CIA. From the moment we walked into the apartment it immediately became home. Susan greeted us with a warm welcome, big smile and fresh flowers. The garden, in the midst of California's great draught, is plush with figs, persimmons, herbs and soon to be pomegranates all in our backyard!

Susan has been a wonderful host who really knows the area and is well connected in the community. She has hosted me for a lovely dinner (she's a great cook and conversationalist), directed us to great hiking and invited me along to yoga classes, which I look forward to attending with her.

The property is ideally located a short 7 minute walk from Oxbow Market and downtown Napa. There is a lovely yoga studio just at the end of the road, a 3 minute walk from home and the Napa Farmers Market just down the way twice a week!

Then there is Lucca. One of the highlights of the property, aside from the garden. Lucca is sweet, friendly and adorable. A true delight to come home to.

We are thrilled with our accommodations and look forward to our months ahead exploring Napa from this sweet homestead!

Excellent for long term stay!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for 3 months. It was a perfect place to stay in Napa. It is in a very quiet neighborhood, but close enough to walk to downtown Napa and Oxbow market easily. The house is stocked perfectly with everything you need to live for a month. We could cook with the gadgets available, drink good wine, do our laundry, and store everything we needed for a few months. Susan is a great host. She is very knowledgable about the area and everywhere to eat and exercise. We shared several meals and she even took me to a local yoga class. I would stay here again in a minute. Highly recommended!!!

Terrific Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to reside if you are lucky enough to require accommodations in Napa for a month or more. I stayed three months while working harvest in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. I had a great time and really enjoyed the apartment. It is furnished comfortably, stocked thoughtfully, and sited in a pleasant neighborhood. It is private and quiet – a nice place to call home while enjoying Napa Valley.

All that downtown Napa has to offer is an easy ten minute walk away. The rest of Napa Valley is easily accessible by car, as is Sonoma. Susan is a wonderful host and a terrific resource for information about the area. I would rent this apartment again without hesitation.

Summer in Napa

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this lovely suite for two and a half months. The photos did not do this place justice; the Japanese -themed bathroom was truly luxurious. Our host, Susan, was not only knowledgeable and helpful, but she became a new and valued friend. The location, within walking distance of the Oxbow Public Market and downtown Napa, couldn't have been more convenient. We will definitely be back.

As you are doubtlessly aware, the Napa Valley is famous for its beautiful vineyards, over-the-top wineries, and delicious wine. Hiking and cycling are getting better all the time, as the town adds cycle paths and walks along the river. There are jazz and music events throughout the year, and more good places to eat than you can shake a stick at. The weather is generally wonderful.
