Our group of 15 enjoyed the open floor plan, plenty of sleeping space and beautiful views of the lake. The house is very spacious and has an short, easy path to the boat dock. It is located on the quiet end of the lake, so we enjoyed all the non-motorized water toys that we brought with us plus a fishing boat, without concern of being hit by a larger craft. The gas stations on the lake are about 20 -25 minutes away, so keep your eyes on the gas gauge! We had a great time!
My family had a wonderful vacation at Lake Oconee. The Abelardo home is very pretty. The view of the lake is spectacular. The very large windows in the Living Room caused us to spend a lot of time there just enjoying looking at the lake. For the most part the kitchen was well equipped and we prepared wonderful meals. I would recommend this as a good place for anyone's family trip.
This was our first time on Lake Oconee, and loved it. Family came from all over the country and all were very impressed by the house and lake. The kids played from morning to night on the dock jumping in the water. We rented a pontoon boat from Tommy's Pontoons, the boat was really nice however, its a bit of a drive. We also rented a ski boat from Twin lakes rental. Advid family skiers / wake boarders were not impressed by the boat. We brought our wave runners and put them in just up the road from the house. The house is three levels and much larger and roomier than pictures show. The downstairs is a very large living room that you dont see in the pics. There is also a laundry room down there. My only suggestive would be that the owners make a list of things that are available at the home. Such as kitchen items and iron and TV possiblities for those that are not on the water all day. If I would have know I would not have traveled with my iron and hand mixer... Also, I was told the kayaks are not for guest use which was disappointing to many family memebers because they saw the pic of it and thought they could use it. Plan on making a 20-30 minute trip to get to publix or anywhere for that matter. We took a day trip to Milledgeville which was a small college town with some antique stores. We stopped in at the welcome center in town and did a tour of the Govenors House. There is a trolly tour but it only has one tour a day at 10 am in the morning, so we missed it, but enjoyed the walk around town looking at the older homes. The lake house is not recommended for anyone that can't use stairs. Other than that We really enjoyed our stay in this home and look forward to going back! BTW the Ritz Carlton is a great place to dock your boat and enjoy the pool bar, drinks were great and lunch look good too.
The house was much roomier than expected and the photos really do not do it justice. The location is amazing, quiet, great for fishing, swimming or just plain relaxing. The kitchen was stocked better with many pots, pans, silverware, etc. than any house I have rented in the past. There was nothing more any of us could want in a vacation rental! Thank you to the owner for letting us rent his Beautiful property.
Great house great location exactly what was advertised. Plenty of room to spread out On a quiet cove, the kids loved swimming and it is the perfect location for water sports and fishing. The neighbors were very friendly and offered great advice on fishing spots and activities. We have rented a house every summer for the last 4 years on Lake Oconee and this one will be at the top of the list for next year.
Our group of 10 (6 adults, 4 kids) stayed here for a Memorial Day Weekend family celebration. Everything was perfect! The kitchen is huge and well-stocked, there was plenty of space for togetherness and to spread out a bit, and the location on the cove was very nice. The kids (and adults!) enjoyed making s'mores in the firepit each night. The kids enjoyed playing around the dock and paddling in a kayak (we brought it with us) on the cove.
We rented a pontoon boat from Twin Lakes, which was aggravating. We were supposed to pick up the boat at 5:00 pm for 24 hours, but the owner had told the previous renter that he could keep the boat until 6:30, without notifying us of the change. The renters ended up returning the boat even later, so we missed out on a whole evening of boat time. So, my only caution would be to either rent a boat from someone other than Twin Lakes, or be prepared for possible disappointment. Once we got the boat (with a discount) it was a blast, but that had the potential to ruin the weekend.
All in all it was a great weekend at Lake Oconee, and we would definitely rent this house again!
Jet skis and boats rental from several nearby marinas. Day spas including one at the Ritz Carlton Lodge. Shopping and antique shopping in nearby Madison, Eatonton and Greensboro.
