Wisconsin Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This private shoreline cottage from the 1960s is at the end of a quiet lane on the mill pond of the Little Wolf River about two miles from the center of Manawa in the rolling farmlands of Waupaca County.

There is fishing right off the private pier: northern pike, perch, bass, bluegills, crappies, pumpkin fish and the occasional brown trout. This area has great spots for the fish to hide in.

Two bedrooms with room in the closets and dressers for your belongings, an orthopedic memory-foam queen bed & a new queen, hardwood flooring, a comfortable living-room with leather couches, new HD-TV, games, playing cards, books and a fully-equipped kitchen with new appliances and a dining area will help to make you feel right at home.

Get away from the hustle and bustle for awhile. Bring your binoculars to watch the birds. Cardinals, king-fishers, woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees live here and so do sand-hill cranes, Canadian geese and squirrels. You can take the portable fire pit and the camping chairs into the yard, lounge in the hammocks (1 double, 1 single) or settle in at the campfire site close to the water on the collapsible lawn chairs. Pull the boat into the water and use the oars to get around or ask Jason for the trolling motor. Have fun and see some of the open countryside on the twin 3-speed cruiser bikes. Bring your snowmobile in winter and use the miles of trails in the area; access them right at the pond. Watch the sun rise over the lake across the expansive level yard from the house and porch through the old-stand trees.

I am lucky to have a great care-taker who lives next door and watches over the house through all the seasons. This makes the cottage available for use all year 'round. He is a great fisherman who can swear by this private part of the pond as a fisherman's hideaway spot both summer and winter.

Note! Senior discount (65 years of age or older) of $25 if more than two persons, or $50 for a single person or one couple!

Special rates for returning guests. Ask about extended-stay rates.

About Charlene Brunner

A fifth-generation California resident who lost her heart to Switzerland would not normally have a cottage in rural Wisconsin, but this is special. I live in Chur, Switzerland, and see my family in California about once a year. I have visited Manawa quite a few times to see where my good friend grew up.

Charlene Brunner purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Charlene Brunner chose Wisconsin

When my friend showed me the area where she was raised, I was smitten with the beautiful farms, woodlands and lake areas...but especially with the quaint little ranch-style cottage I found there on the quiet man-made lake called Manawa Mill Pond. The 1-plus acre yard around the house with old-stand trees provides it with plenty of privacy and peacefulness, especially because of the 400-yard lake-shore access. There is no traffic because it is at the end of a country cul-de-sac lane.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage gives vactioners a chance to spend time in an absolutely quiet place away from home. I recently had the opportunity to visit the cottage and loved the feeling of security and seclusion it gave me. Bird-watching, fishing, some swimming and barbecuing, but also reading and painting here are the highlights.

I have enjoyed the Mid-Western Rodeo in Manawa in July and have seen some of the old cars that are shown at the Iola Car Show.

Green Bay is worth a trip for many reasons. The Wisconsin Dells, too.

I furnished the cottage in 2005 from some of the local stores but especially from the antique shops in New London and Waupaca. For antique lovers there is also the big Osh Kosh show.

Manawa is a convenient distance from the Outagamie Airport in Appleton and not a bad drive from Chicago, where I can enjoy the Windy City before taking off to Switzerland or California.

Perfect Lake House!

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely clean, comfortable well-equipped lake house! Perfect for our needs. Quiet and restful among the dancing reeds by the waters edge and the whispering pines above. The stars at night are overwhelming in number and brightness! The "pond" (actually a fair-sized lake) was perfect for our canoe. And our dog loved romping around the big yard. The house is nicely updated, but still has that 50s lake cottage charm to it. The neighborhood is very friendly and a very well-stocked grocery store is in town not far away. We enjoyed having a log fire in the outdoor fire-pit every night. We had a very refreshing stay and highly recommend this property to anyone looking for the same "lake house" vacation. We've been VRBOers for over 15 years and this is one of the best. Perfect! Thanks Charlene and Jason!

I know that your careful review will be helpful to other interested vacationers as well. Jason and I enjoyed having you and your pet dog and we hope to have you back sometime soon.

Absolutely Wonderful Place!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay! We were impressed with the cleanliness of the house, the wonderful updated bathroom and rainfall shower! Fishing was fun, caught some perch off the dock and had a great shore lunch! Very comfy! We will definitely stay again! The manager was really nice and made sure we had a comfortable stay. There is a new washer and dryer to make life easy! Just a terrific place!

Owner's Response: Thank you Vickie F. for the report of your stay. I always enjoy hearing about the particularities of a guest's reasons for enjoying the cottage. You certainly deserved a peaceful time and those fish to fry...I am glad they were biting. Jason (yes, isn't he the greatest?) and I look forward to accommodating you again sometime in the near future.

good idea

  • 5 of 5

this "cabin" is a beautiful house situated on the Little Wolf River Mill Pond, created by a dam that has been there for many years. The grounds are well kept and extensive. I like the floor plan, showing a view of the back yard and pond from the living room. The long weekend was for a rare family get together. It was nice to have this place to come back to with some fishing.

Quiet getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a very quiet and pleasant long weekend. We came up from Illinois, so we were able to see a couple of different birds that we do not have near home. We were also able to just sit and enjoy the weather. The house was clean and well equipped. Thanks for everything!

Owner's Response: I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay. It is good to know that you came here for the peace and quiet. I just knew there would be ornithologists or at least bird lovers interested in this neck of the woods by the pond. Thank you for taking the time to review the cottage.

Great Little Getaway

  • 5 of 5

I have had the privilege of staying at Charlene's cabin several times now over the past year or so. Whether it's a fishing getaway or a weekend away with the family, it always surpasses my expectations. The home is modern and offers all the amenities you need to have a complete weekend on the water. The area is quaint and offers both the feeling of "getting away for the weekend" as well as small town shops and areas to explore. I highly suggest trekking to town for a quick bite and a chat with the locals.

Thank you Charlene and I'll be back in the future!!

Owner's Response: Hi Chris Thank you so much for your nice review and great rating. It is always good to have you come stay at the cottage. I had the opportunity to visit the cottage this year (it's not that easy to come because I live so far away). The bikes worked great for even long rides. We rode to Ogdensburg on the Tomorrow River Trail, and in town on the Wolf River Trail. It was fun to get out in the countryside. Jay was really helpful and used his compressor to pump up the tires. The hand pump is probably only good for emergencies. Don't hesitate to ask him for anything you might need or if anything isn't working right. He's happy to give you a hand. We also liked the Manawa Steak House. They have a great bar with all sorts of trophies on the walls. The team is really friendly and the quesadillas were excellent. You can even eat your dinner at the bar if you prefer. Have a great day and come back soon! Charlene

Excellent property

  • 5 of 5

Well maintained, clean, comfortable, and absolutely as advertised. Access to the house through the garage was a wonderful feature in the middle of winter. Close proximity to Waupaca and Iola for additional dining and entertainment options.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. It is so nice to have guests during the winter months. I know that future guests will be glad to hear that the cottage is just as good a choice for those off-season getaway weekends as during the summer months. There are more good places to dine in the vicinity that can be discovered another time. And for those guests who stay at home, the kitchen is spacious enough and has the utensils, pots and pans you will need. We hope to see you again sometime. A return visit warrants a discount that could be used towards an outing.
