About Lynn

My husband Matt and myself at Fishermen's.

We currently live in Illinois, USA, but if we didn't have to work, we would be living here at the beach. We feel very fortunate to have found Fishermen's and Playa del Carmen.

Lynn purchased this condo in 1996

Why Lynn chose Playa del Carmen

I visted Playa del Carmen and the surrounding area and simply fell in love with it. I really like the Mayan background and history of the area, but the natural beauty is spectacular.

I am an original owner at Fishermen's and purchased this unit before the building was even completely built.

Back in 1996, Fishermen's was to be a residential condo building but subsequently portions of it were purchased by Royal Sunset timeshare. There are still a handful of owners such as ourselves that own our unit with a deed and not timeshare.

What makes this condo unique

Unbelievable sea views. Great beach. Walking distance into town. Quiet and peaceful at the condo. Small boutique atmosphere. Foot and drinks onsite. Concierge onsite.

Thanks for a wonderful stay”

Reviewed August 15, 2011

We stayed at Fisherman's August 5 to August 12 and thoughly enjoyed this wonderful place. We met some great folks from all over the world. Fishermans is small but is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The best part however is the staff. They were fantastic...always willing to help in anyway. If you take the time to get to know them a little they even work harder to make your stay fun, comfortable and worthwhile. The pool, beach and accomodations were excellent. The spa was super and we enjoyed it lots. The food was OK...not great....but certainly provided by a willing and responsive wait staff. The Italian dinning option where you needed reservations was not as speedy but the food was OK. Drink options were all domestic Mexican brands but we are not picky and thought the pool side drink options were good. Fisherman's is close to Playa del Carmen and only a quick 15 min walk or 5 min cab ride. The walk is nice as it can be done on the beach or through a very nice gated community passing wonderful rental homes and condos as well as fantastic private residences. We felt very very safe the whole time we were there. Recommed the ferry ride over to Cozumel as it is cheap, roughly $24 @ roundtrip. Shopping, dinning and snorkeling options in Cozumel are abundant. Playa del Carmen is a real hit also. Lots to see and do. Some very good dinning and the shopping is interesting. We will go back

beautiful condo in Playacar

  • 5 of 5

This condo was perfect. It had everything we were looking for. Nice condo and amenities, air conditioning worked great, fridge kept everything nice and cold. The view from the balcony was just as pictured. This condo is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood and a short walk to downtown Playa del Carmen. Staff was very nice and helpful although we did not need them for anything accept some ice to fill our cooler for the beach. The condo was stocked with everything we needed for our weeks stay and even some extra goodies we weren't expecting. We took a taxi to Walmart for $8 US and loaded up on food, beer and liquor for the week and taxi driver waited and drove us back for the same fee. We had breakfast, lunch and snacks at the condo and ate dinner at various places in town. If you are looking for a quiet get away with awesome scenery and great food and bars close by, this is your place.

Certainly one of the best locations we ever stayed but...

  • 3 of 5

We've travelled quite extensively in the last few years. We've travelled with an RV for a few years, rented condo's a few times, been chartering catamarans etc.. Sunset fisherman was certainly one of our best locations we ever rented. As there are no perfect places we must mention a few SMALL annoying elements someone else might find very annoying. First and foremost, the lack of access to an efficient Wi-Fi, even if indicated at the beginning, was pitiful. For us, wanting to stay connected to our world, it was frustrating. Forget the WIFI. Then the fact there were no oven it reduced the capacity to cook certain food at times. Also, and last, the location of the unit right central, above the main pool area made it such that there was a lot of noise from the pool area. The constant music from the resort speakers located right below the condo unit were at times very annoying. Someone must understand that most of the guests at this resort are from Timeshare program making it a very economical way to enjoy a vacation. Sometimes there were rowdy crowds in the pool.

The condo unit and the resort itself were very clean, all the employees at the resort went out of their way to please us. The beach was a perfect large sandy beach. We were able to walk miles on the beach. Playacar is a unique gated community making it safe overall. The vegetation within Playacar is very nice. We really enjoyed being able to walk to Playa Del Carmen and have access to many high quality restaurants. Many services are offered by the Resort and all are great.

Ocean view priceless, condo comfortable

  • 4 of 5

I would go again.Priceless Ocean view. Condo spacious and comfortable. The owner very responsive on one small maintenance issue. Best for two but has a hidaway bed for one. Unfortunately needs a new sofa mattresses. Pool and beach are very nice and quite. Beach staff really helpful, nice chairs and beach beds to use, lots of free water gear and they can hook you up with any motor craft you want. I recommend for those spending a quite time and enjoy going into town for dinner. Really great for the 40 plus crowd but not for handicap. No elevators just stairs to second floor.

One small negative half hotel is time share we were in a owner condo seems staff response to time share guest was better. We really enjoyed the condo, really relaxing, and communicating with owner.

Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at Fishermen's Village with his 9 year old son for 3 nights, and it was everything we hoped it would be! The location is spectacular and the size of the resort is just right! The beach has the softest, whitest sand I've ever seen, and the water is crystal clear. There were tons of options for seating on the beach or by the pool too!

The resort has everything you need, and you can opt for the all-inclusive experience if you want. For $60 per person you get two meals and drinks all day. We only ate 2 meals at Fishermen's and enjoyed walking into town to various restaurants there, so we went a-la-carte. I highly recommend El Fogon on 30th Street - you'll need a taxi! It's near Wal-Mart too, and our taxi driver waited for us when we needed to run in for a few items. We also ate at the Techila Barrel and Pez-Vela both on 5th Avenue, which is a cool place to shop. Definitely try Aldo's gelato! You will be bombarded with sales people in town. We had a great experience with Easy Tours who arranged a tour of 3 cenotes near Tulum. That was an amazing experience for $60 US/person!

We only exchanged $60 US for pesos, since US dollars are accepted everywhere. I recommend having lots of small bills...our taxi rides were $8 to $12 US, but the drivers didn't have change for a $20 bill.

The condo itself is a great size and is in excellent condition - just like the pictures! The half-bath came in really handy!! The master bedroom stays nice and cool, but the bed is super firm! We ended up using the cushions from the lounge chairs on the patio as mattress pads by the third night;-)

The staff at Fishermen's was extraordinary and arranged for taxis anytime we needed them. They also made great suggestions for places to eat and visit. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of the free kayaks or other activities, like parasailing or massages, which cost extra, but the boys enjoyed playing volleyball with other guests. Pool/beach towels can be picked up at the cabana next to the pool bar for a small charge to the room, and you can make reservations for activities there as well. The breakfast buffet was pretty good for about $12 per person with tip. Drinks were great and were reasonably priced too, as was lunch!

Lynn was very responsive when I had questions before our trip and when we realized we left clothes in one of the drawers. She got me in touch with the property managers, who arranged to ship the items. We'd definitely go back!

Hidden gem in Playa del Carmen

  • 5 of 5

I booked this place based on the stunning beach views and the proximity to the town of Playa del Carmen and it did not disappoint.

In a land of mega resorts with stadium beach seating and herds of tourists this place stands out. The staff could not have been friendlier. We elected not to get the meal plan in an effort to force ourselves to explore the town a bit more but found that we did eat at least a meal or 2 every day onsite. The breakfast buffet was great with a wide assortment of offerings that included regional specialties that you won't find in the states. The coffee was fantastic. Lunch, well, not so much. The sandwiches were OK but dishes that I thought would be great (guacamole, quesidillas, nachos...) were just so so. The drinks were also just OK - nothing special. Again, we were not there on an alcohol/meal plan so we could come and go based on convenience alone.

The condo had everything we could have asked for including an extra 1/2 bath. The kitchen was well appointed although we didn't use much more than the fridge for keeping beer cold and a couple glasses for water. I could see buying groceries and cooking family meals if someone were so inclined. The bedroom is back in the rear of the condo with an on-suite full bath. It's dark and quiet. If you want to wake up to the sound of the waves you need to get out of bed and head to the balcony at the other end of the unit. Speaking of the balcony, the view is stunning. You are literally one story above the multi-layered pool with a major view of the ocean. Cozumel is easily visible when the weather is clear. The beach has plenty of seating with everything from 4 poster beds to beach couches to traditional loungers with umbrellas. There is even a sundeck above the beach restaurant that almost nobody used. It affords a near 180 degree view of the beach. There were hobie cats, kayaks and games available for those that wanted to use them. I think it was all free.

The value of staying that close to the water within walking distance of the town was worth every penny. Couple that with the condo's amenities and you have a great place to stay in PDC.

This place was exactly what we were looking for, right on the beach, very clean, staff was friendly and very helpful. The pools were clean and inviting. Our condo had a perfect ocean view and equipped with everything we needed. 5th street is a quick cab ride where we had dinner every night. We are definitely coming back here.
