Three bedrooms, a pullout bed, a small loft and plenty of couches provide comfortable sleeping for 8 to 10. or friends and endless floor space and couches for your entourage or security detail. Furniture includes multiple leather sofas and chaise lounges set next to the huge fully opening windows. Perfect for the serious reader. A central stereo system accesses your personal music via the wireless Ipod docker or taps into the quirky funk of the reformed local pirate radio station.
Sound flows through the house and even feeds the exterior sauna! You have not lived until you've danced in the steamy fog of the sauna entry. A heated jacuzzi is in the third floor bath. We are local Alaskans and most of us learned to ski at Alyeska.
Owner/Manager purchased this chateau / country house in 2009
A beautiful forested setting with Virgin Creek whispering in the background. Nature speaks to the guests as Hemlock boughs gently filter the winter light.
Quiet sun, acoustic ambiance, forest fragrance, simple living
This was a wonderful place for our family to spend the week in Alaska. Centrally located we traveled up and down the peninsula, fishing in Seward, sightseeing in Whittier and visiting family in Anchorage. I can do this home no justice, beautiful architectural design, plenty of Space, and a tree top view makes it feel like a tree house. My daughter sat on the balcony reading and we slept every night with the windows open to enjoy the cool breeze and the soft sound of the Virgin Creek Falls. you will be pleasantly surprised with this Gem. Cant wait to do it all over again.
My wife, 3 kids (13, 11, 8) and 2 in-laws LOVED staying here. The house is conveniently located to Girdwood attractions and serves as a great base for exploring areas stretching from Anchorage to Seward and beyond. The Virgin Falls trailhead is only a minute walk from the front door and very enjoyable. The house features a uniquely modern, sleek design that is also very comfortable and offers great amenities such as fussball, wifi, and a really cool stereo system accessible from just about any room. Engineers/architects/builders will especially appreciate the overall quality of design and construction. An unexpected and much enjoyed amenity was the outdoor, wood-heated sauna and hottub. The owner provided excellent communication, and a friendly 'manager' checked in on us upon arrival and provided local assistance as needed. The house was very clean and very well maintained. If I head back to Girdwood I will definitely stay here again.
Great house and location in Girdwood, AK. A short walk/ run to just about anything Girdwood has to offer. Sauna and wood fired hot tub were huge plus!
One year before our trip to Alaska our dad asked all of his children and their spouses to take a trip to Alaska with him in celebration 80th birthday. He called it his Bucket List Trip. In our search for the perfect place for nine people to converge from all over the United States we were lucky enough to find this gem of a chateau in Girdwood AK. It was perfect for all of our needs! The location is secluded and private nestled in a beautiful pine forested area. We found that when we had the windows open we could hear the babbling Virgin Falls Creak in the background. The trail head to that creak is within easy walking distance from the Chateau. The open kitchen/dining/lounging area was perfect for our family to relax in between outings. The location of Girdwood is about 55 min south of Anchorage. We found it a great home base for the different day trips we had planned. We went to Seward site-seeing and south to just north of Homer deep sea fishing. We stopped at the Wildlife Preserve just minutes from Girdwood...a must see stop. One of our funnest trips was the 4-wheeling trip with Alaskan Adventures that we took just north of Girdwood where we spotted a momma black bear with three cubs. It was nice to be able to stop back at the Chateau to do some laundry and take a break. We also did gold panning at the Crow Creek Mine in Girdwood and found just a little gold, but had a tun of fun! Having the sauna and hot tub heated up and ready for our return was a good idea because we were all chilled from the water. Going up the tram at the Alyeska resort was lots of fun too. We were able to pack lunch to take with us on a number of occasions. We bought most of our groceries at the Walmart in Anchorage, but the few things that we did forget we got at the Mercantile in town. When you turn to come into Girdwood, there is a gas station/strip mall that has a bakery, ice cream shop and gift shop. Yum! We also had dinner at the Double Musky...If you go there, look up at the beam as you pass from the bar to go into the restaurant...there is a $5 bill in celebration of our dads 80th birthday singed by his children! It was a fantastic trip that we will remember for a lifetime! David, the owner, was so helpful throughout our planning! We went in the summer, but with the resort just there at the foot of the mountains, it would be a great place for skiing as well. Set up for winter with heated floors and a place for your ski equipment. As we said throughout our trip, Fish On!
This is an incredibly beautiful place nestled in the trees. Large windows give the feeling of staying in a luxurious treehouse. The layout is functional with all the bedrooms on the top floor and the open kitchen and living room encompassing the middle floor. Our large family stayed here three nights while attending a wedding. It is in a private location allowing us to stay up late using the outdoor hot tub and sauna without having to be excessively careful of bothering nearby neighbors. The property caretaker is extremely helpful and friendly. We all decided we would love to come again for a family reunion or retreat.
This is a beautiful house and we had a great time. The owner is great and communicative and very helpful. Thanks again for another great stay here!
