It was the best!!! Stunning veiws beautiful house. I took my boat to Ruedi reservoir for water skiing . Drove to Aspen several evenings for classical concerts and wonderful resturants. The whole trip couldn't have been better. Chistina was wonderful and very helpful. I give it a 5!!!! can't wait to go back
My fiance and I chose this home based on some of the previous reviews. What we did not know was the home had been sold/remodeled recently so the reviews were not current. We started the trip scrambling some to get signed paperwork to the property manager. I don't know if we missed the paperwork or if it was not sent to us in a timely manner. It was not enjoyable trying to find a place to color scan documents and email them - Minor inconvenience
We arrived at the property and found it clean and inviting. One of the reasons we chose this property was the fireplace. When we tried it Saturday evening, it worked momentarily then quit. There were no directions on how the fireplace worked. The FP was out of gas and was fixed on Monday. Despite the fact there is a paid cleaning service, We discovered the dishwasher was inoperable. A breaker had to be replaced, Fixed on Tuesday. Tripped breakers also shut down the hot tub for a couple of days. Fixed by Tuesday. Smoke detector backup batteries decided to fail in the middle of the night so we had to remove batteries . These should be replaced on a regular schedule so this does not happen. Beautiful kitchen was woefully equipped. There was a coffee pot, and microwave. A few pots and pans that Goodwill would have rejected and a few utensils. Only towels in the home were bath towels, no hand towels for the bathrooms, no kitchen towels and no towels available for hot tub use. Have I mentioned the dog from next door that come over to bark? ALmost forgot... the pillow cases on the master bed fit about 2/3 of the pillow, and the fitted bottom sheet seemed too small for the mattress.
The Positive: Christina was very apologetic and tried to respond to our needs. On Wednesday she delivered pots/pans, a decent knife block with reasonable knives, a toaster oven, fire extinguisher, hand and bath towels, additional utensil's. I think she addressed most of our concerns and future renters will have a better equipped property.
Summary: having to wait several days to have concerns addressed detracted from our stay. We did enjoy the area and overall the property was nice. I would be willing to recommend this property now that some of the issues have been addressed. Hopefully Christina will take our advise and create a manual that explains the operation of heat/fireplace.
One of my most wonderful vacations
malestic almost spiritual views
restaurants in Basalr
My college age son and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in this home. It was very well furnished, comfortable and the views were fantastic. The owner is very hospitable and loves to give helpful advice on fishing the Frying Pan River and other lakes and rivers in the area. Basalt is a small, very quaint town. We enjoyed its pace much more than the hustle and bustle of Aspen. The hiking and fishing in the area is the best around. I wouldn't go elsewhere in Colorado for either. This is the place to rent in the Frying Pan Valley!
My extended family stayed at The Frying Pan Retreat over the Christmas holiday of 2013. We couldn't have had a better time and recommend the property with no hesitations.
There were 3 generations of us on this holiday trip: my wife and I, our oldest daughter and her husband and their two children, ages 5 and 7. The 3 bedrooms fit us all nicely and the property is a real home - we felt as if we were sharing the holiday experience at another family members home.
The drive into the small town of Basalt is a little over ten minutes and the road hugs the Frying Pan River. Wow! It is a beautiful drive and once in Basalt there is a selection of all pricing of restaurants that we had dinner at about half of the nights we were on this holiday. The other nights we fixed dinner at home in the fully stocked kitchen. There is a Whole Foods and a City Market within the Basalt town limits.
We skied at Snowmass 3 of the days we were staying at The Frying Pan Retreat, and the drive was a reasonable 40 minutes.
But we could have stayed at the house and never left and just sat by the wood stove reading, or stared out the window at the truly unbelievable views of the red rock formations. Truly a lovely vacation and we hope to come back again soon.
We use VRBO for every vacation. When we selected this property we were concerned because there were no ratings. Since staying there we decided that everyone was just keeping this piece of paradise to themselves. The photos do not do it justice. Some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever see is from the covered side porch, the living room window and well, just about every window of the house. There are beautiful English Gardens, a huge back deck with a wonderful hot tub, and acreage that includes the "gold medal" frying pan river. Step off the back deck and onto a wonderful trail that takes you on a 2 hour hike to a waterfall. It is hard to pull yourself away from the property to go hiking, fishing and cycling but all of those activities are right there to experience. The owner, Christina, is wonderful to work with and is helpful in guiding you to all of the many sights and activities in the area. We would recommend renting a 4 wheel drive vehicle (we rented a truck which was less expensive than a car) as 4 wheel drive does help, even in the summer, because the road to the house is a bit rutted. You can't get these kinds of views without climbing a bit of a country road though so it is worth it. The property is located about 5 miles from the town of Basalt but it is an easy, scenic, drive along the river. The home is well equipped. The master bedroom and bath are upstairs, as well as another good sized bedroom with twin beds. There is a large bedroom and half bath downstairs, as well as a mud room, kitchen, living and dining. This stunningly beautiful and peaceful property far exceeded our expectations. We would definitely go back and we have recommended it to our friends. Highly recommend.
