For over 20 years I am letting individually selected holiday houses with stunning sea view in scenic areas of County Kerry in Southwest Ireland.
My philosophy is to provide true descriptions and pictures of the houses offered in order to ensure a most relaxing stay in "your" holiday house. I love assisting you in selecting a suitable place as well as to share my insights of Ireland.
Michael and Helen had build this house as a family retreat and have utilized it as such all the time and, in fact still do so. So you do find yourself in a family home with everything that belongs to it.
Since the "children" of the family go their own ways, Helen and Michael have decided to share the house with holidayers. I think it is a great idea.
It is a great advantage that the house is so close to the breathtakingly beautiful St. Finian's Bay. Being here and looking at the waves makes you forget the worries for a while.
Keel ist ein kleiner Weiler an der wunderschönen St. Finians Bucht.
Surfing, Wind Surfing, Fishing, Golf, Hiking, Caving, Horse Riding, Walking, Cycling, Water Skiing, Canoeing, Kayaking. St. Finian’s Bay or known locally as The Glen, is nestled between the villages of Portmagee and Ballinskelligs on the Skellig Ring Drive. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and each entry point to The Glen offers stunning vistas and winding mountain passes.
Visiting The Glen from the north, Coomanaspig Pass offers you the first magnificent panoramas of St. Finian’s Bay with its views to the Skellig Rocks and Puffin Island and its crescent shaped glen encircled by the rolling mountains and headlands of this beautiful corner of Kerry.
The area got its name from St. Finian, a man who lived in the 10th century and travelled from the Skelligs to Keel frequently to say mass. St. Finian had a monastery at Keel but the area is much older than that era. There is evidence of habitation from the Bronze Age and there are many souterrains, galtans and the remains of an earthen fort at Rathkerin.
Here you will find many ancient heritage sites with magical mystical views of the Skellig Rocks. Kilaboona Oratory is an exceptionally interesting early Christian site and to the west of the settlement is a well dedicated to Naomh Buaine (St. Buaine).
Killemlagh Church ruins were originally built in the 12th or 13th Century on the site of St. Finian’s original monastery. The old church was an Irish Romanesque structure and attached to it is a latter parish church. South of the church is the “Pagan’s Grave”, an unusual enclosure of standing stones, 18ft x 11ft.
Other early Christian sites include an Aifrinn, a Mass Rock used in Penal times located in the town land of Aghort and Dún Canuig Promontory is located in the town land of Cloghanecanuig.
St. Finian’s Bay pier is a popular launch pad for divers exploring the exceptional waters and underwater cliffs of the Skellig Rocks. The Glen's beach, St.Finian's Bay, is a surfer's paradise. Here, the waves and sea breezes are a tonic! Have your camera at the ready at all times…..
Any visit to The Glen would be incomplete without a visit to Skelligs Chocolate, a tiny Chocolate factory producing top quality artisan chocolates and which has stunning views of the Skelligs from its welcoming little café.
A visitor to the page asked me if the road was disturbing.
It looked so close by - with a crossing to boot. Well here I can ease all worries in good conscience. In fact – it is a partly single-lane road where busses are not allowed.
Just as well,
everybody knows that the little roads often lead to the most breath-taking places. And St. Finans Bay is surely one of them.
