My wife grew up in Walla Walla and I met her while attending Whitman College. We love it there and try to get back as often as we can. We also love cycling and can make great recommendations for area rides, restaurants and other fun activities. Thanks for checking out our house.
Julie Rathbun purchased this house in 2006
Walla Walla is one of the greatest areas in the state for being outdoors, cycling, fishing, hunting and close to skiing at Bluewood in the Winter months. Of course Walla Walla is also home to some national and internationally renowned wineries and up and coming restaurants.
The Tandem House is located by the historic Pioneer Park. The park was designed by John Olmstead, who designed Central Park in New York, as well as numerous other Parks in Washington and Oregon. The Park is home to some state and national record trees. Tandem House is walking distance to Whitman College (10 min) and downtown (15-20 min). We also stock the garage with 3 speed bikes to explore the town on.
We had 6 women stay at this house for 3 nights and it was perfect. The large open kitchen and dining room made it easy to cook and visit with everyone at the same time. The TV room was great for watching movies after a long day of sightseeing and wine tasting. There's a great park a half block away with a nice bike/walk path. My sister and I rode the tandem bike through the park which, by the way, isn't as easy as it looks. Especially for a 60 year old who hasn't ridden in a while. The owner, Julie, was very accommodating. We had to change the date of our stay and then ended up adding one more night and she was very gracious about it all. I recommend this property and would definitely stay again. I wouldn't recommend the house for anyone with mobility issues as all the bedrooms are upstairs. Other than that, the house is great!!
3 couples spent a 3 day weekend at the house and we were all very pleased with the location, updated interior, 3 bathrooms, large kitchen, everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed our adventure around Walla Walla, using several suggestions from the owner, and found returning to the house to enjoy meals together, play games, and hang out...terrific. I would add one more chair to the living room so all six people can sit and put their feet up...but other than that we were delighted with our stay in this home with such character. Don't miss a walk to the park and check out the aviary!
When the 6 of us get together it's always a fun time. Being together in the Tandem House for three full days was almost magical. We had a great time cooking in that amazing kitchen! Even just sitting at the table drinking wine and laughing was special. And we loved discovering the game, Shut the Box.
The house is well appointed, and the kitchen well stocked. We enjoyed an evening in the back yard on very comfortable patio furniture. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a place on a quiet street, but in a great location.
Our group of 6 stayed at the Tandem House over a three day weekend. The house is conveniently located about a mile from downtown. There is a nearby park, and bikes are available in the garage. We enjoyed the charm and character of the house, especially the large gourmet kitchen. We cooked together and spent much time in the kitchen eating and enjoying the wine we bought during the day.
The house is clean and well kept. We had a most enjoyable stay
I rented this house with my 4 sisters for a fun weekend filled with wine tasting, good food, and relaxation in Walla Walla. The house was perfect for our needs -- plenty of space, a nice and open floor plan downstairs for social time, a big table for sharing meals and playing games, and a nice backyard for lounging. The location was about a 15 minute walk from downtown Walla Walla or very short car or cab ride. We loved that with 2 full bathrooms and 3 bedrooms upstairs, a full bathroom downstairs, plus tons of social space we all had room to mingle or room for quiet time, and could all shower and get ready in the mornings without having to wait around. The kitchen was well stocked too. There are some games provided, patio furniture for the backyard, and even a petanque set.
The house owners were wonderful to work with and provided answers to all our questions and great service. We will definitely try to book the Tandem House next time we're in Walla Walla!
