We currently have Jan 7 - Mar 18 available this winter. $2100/month includes everything! Charming and classic apartment overlooking the back channel of the Piscataqua River, with views of America's oldest Navy Yard, the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard. Portsmouth, NH is just a 15 minute walk away with loads to see and do, including Strawbery Banke Museum, The Portsmouth Music Hall, local Farmer's Markets, great beaches and shopping. Sit on your private deck and watch the lobster boats haul traps. Great restaurants are just steps away. Spend time strolling the shared gardens, or catch a boat ride to see this historic area from the water. This is classic New England.
The details: Two bedrooms with queen size beds, one bath with shower and tub combination. Big, eat-in kitchen. Great deck and outdoor spaces. We live upstairs but you have a private ground floor entrance and separate driveway. Close to everything.

My wife and I live here with our toddler, and have a furnished apartment so our families can come visit. We would love to have you do the same!
Ned Savoie purchased this apartment in 2000
We live here full time because it is such a wonderful part of the country.
Walk to local restaurants and shops, or stroll across the river to Portsmouth, NH. There are lots of great activities in the area, including terrific beaches, great museums, mountains, shopping and much more.
This has to be the best apartment in Maine. What a fabulous spot. The gardens are beautiful (a great change from my last stay 3 years ago. Way to go Shannon!). A perfect setting for a perfect Maine/New Hampshire vacation. Ned, the steps, stonework, patio have added so much to this terrific property. Fabulous!
Fabulous location, lots of great restaurants in the neighborhood, with beaches, shopping, and Portsmouth a short drive. I actually hate ro let anyone know about the place, but the owners are terrific, so I guess it's only fair. All this and you can bring Fido.
Coming to Maine, my husband and I were lured there by the thought of temps in the 70s with ocean breezes, lobster rolls and a quaint town.
All of this happened except for the temps. The weather was horridly hot which caused us to spend most of our time in our apartment. Here is what we found:
A clean and bright apartment consisting of five rooms and a balcony. The apartment has private entrance and exit, which affords TONS of privacy.
The balcony was perfect size which afforded us an OUTSTANDING view of the US Navy Shipyard and all of their happenings.
The grounds have gorgeous gardens. There was also an arrangement waiting for us when we arrived as a welcome. The kitchen is very airy and bright and ideal for food prep.
We were very thankful to find AC for the Kitchen and for the Master Bedroom alone. It was much needed during the hot days. There is also WiFi available for the kitchen area.
Having a car is crucial. We thought we could do without one...but Kittery does not have a grocers (for the essentials) Close by is a farmstand. Ned was so kind to lend us his car and one of the days we took him up on that.
As far as food goes we enjoyed ALL of the following that are ALL within a short block of the apartment:
Rudders Public House: Continental-Gastropub
Lil's Cafe: Organic baked goods, sandwiches, coffee.
Maine Squeeze: Juices and smoothies.
AJ's Wood Fire Pizza: Thinnish pies with great flavor combos and salads.
Each of these we visited multiple times.
The decor is a few steps up from the imagined "harbor-unfinished-chic." Ned and Shannon thought of everything. They even let us tag along for lunch with friends traveling by their boat.
The one thing I will take away is the quiet solitude and the bedroom community enclaviness of Kittery.
What a beautiful apartment, way better than the photos! Is the middle unit on a three story building, but you wouldn't know it- felt like a house, we didn't even realize there were people above and below us, and we sure never saw anyone else. The deck was private as was the parking and the entrance. Another reviewer mentioned the noise from the shipyard, we thankfully did not have the same experience and found our time sitting on the private, covered, deck quite enjoyable and peaceful. I actually found myself stepping outside to take some work calls and it was quieter than my family visiting inside! We also scored on a few cheap, fresh lobsters from one of the boats at the dock which as about 100 ft from your door. Great location for walking to restaurants in downtown Kittery, but also to Portsmouth, NH. I took a leisurely stroll with my infant son across the river to Downtown Portsmouth and it was only 20 minutes! Beautiful scenery along the way and fascinating old bridge that was a highlight of our trip.
The house was very comfortable and beautifully decorated, not like many vacation rentals where you can tell the owners just sort of threw together whatever thrift sore furniture they were able to come by cheap- the art work was classy and charming and really added to the over all ambiance of the place. We received numerous compliments from the many relatives who came by to visit us during our stay. Kitchen had all of the cooking supplies one would need and there were ample towels/blankets for everyone. There was also a pack-n-play for our 8 month old son to sleep/nap in which was a big help as we flew in from California and couldn't bring may of those types of items.
A big thing for us was the fact that it is one story: we had our 89 year old grandmother with us and many of the other rentals around required a journey upstairs to get to the bedrooms which would have been challenging for her. Though there are a few steps to get into the front door so a wheelchair probably wouldn't work, but was okay for grandma.
All in all we are very happy and will definitely be coming back and highly recommend to anyone looking for a New England get away!
Very comfortable two bedroom apartment across a narrow spit of river from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and nestled behind Wallingford Square, which is full of good restaurants and bars. You could throw a stone at the Naval Yard, and you might want to, because it operates 24/7 and sounds like a gigantic construction site, complete with truck back-up beeps and the never-ending roar of what sounds like a giant turbine engine. The roar provides white noise for sleeping, but is very intrusive if you want to sit on the porch to read or have a conversation. The apartment is on the first floor, between the owner's and a tenant below. There's another small house on the property. The lovely garden, which is terraced and beautifully landscaped, is shared among the families. We were expecting a quiet home, overlooking the river, with a view of charming houses. That's what the photos show. But actually those charming houses are Kittery, shot from across the river. The apartment has much going for it. Just not peace, quiet or privacy.
This house is better than the photos show. The location is perfect - easy for day trips to explore Southern Maine as well as to walk to many restaurants in the neighborhood. We enjoyed hearing the Star-Spangled Banner from the Navy Shipyard in the mornings, and watching the lobster boats from the porch. The house itself was immaculate. The kitchen is huge, wonderful new appliances, and washer/dryer. Master bedroom has a beautiful view and the bed and bedding were exceptional. The living room was very comfortable for 4 of us to visit and watch tv. Ned is a perfect host, helpful in all areas, always accessible, and very caring. He goes beyond what is expected and we appreciated the service. We highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to explore Southern Maine, New Hampshire and even Boston area.
Ned was a lovely host -- available but not overbearing in any way. The space was bright and very clean. Great porch overlooking the water. And the location is the very best part. Kittery has fantastic restaurants and your 15min walk to portland is across a beautiful bridge. Fantastic sunset.
