About Charlie Roame

I was born in the state of Tennessee but moved away many years ago. When my vacation time came around I decided to go back to my home state. I chose to rent a log home and immediately fell in love with the beauty & craftmanship of the logs. I found that they offered a sense of peace and tranquility which I've never known. I can't think of anything more peacefull then sitting by the fireplace and reading a book.

Charlie Roame purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Charlie Roame chose Tennessee

The location of the home is in close proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains and offers awesome views.

Welcoming Retreat!!

  • 5 of 5

Very welcoming and inviting cabin with plenty of room for everyone!! The cabin was clean, well stocked kitchen with plenty of pots and pans, and lots of entertainment for everyone. Movies, games, pool table, hot tub, books and just about anything to make your stay pleasurable. So happy to be able to take our dogs with us. Plenty of room for the kennels without getting in the way of anything. Beautiful scenery and managed to see the fall colors before it was to late. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your cabin!!

Very Nice Vacation Home

  • 4 of 5

Home was very nice and very clean. Location is off the beaten path but not too far. Wears Valley area is much more quiet than Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg (and less traffic). Driveway is very steep but did not have any problems with a front wheel drive mid size car. Even with prior warning we still had bears in the trash cans twice. If you have mobility issues - keep in mind you enter this home on the lower level and must climb stairs to reach the main floor. View was nice but I hoped for a little better. Owner was very pleasant, quick, and easy to work with. Would like to see more pictures on the web site. Overall very nice home, well decorated, clean, and well cared for.

Nice cabin. Great stay

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay over Labor Day weekend with friends and family. 4 bedrooms plus 2 pull out couches was plenty of space.

Layout: you enter the front door and your on the first/basement level. This has the pool table and a pullout, tv, a king bedroom and bathroom. The washer and dryer on on this level as well.

Walk up the stairs and you will reach the 2nd level. Living area is to the right and there is a queen bedroom and bathroom to the left. Kitchen and dining room are on this level also. Outdoor patio has the grill and hot tub and rocking chairs.

3rd level has a king bedroom and a queen bedroom with 1 bathroom upstairs. Both of these rooms have a small balcony.

Kitchen had everything we needed to cook and bake. The place was clean and looked very nice.

The only thing I would do different is bring my own pillow. The beds were comfortable but the sheets were very thin and worn out as well as the comforters.

Overall a great place and I would recommend to others. Oh and the community pool was great as well, about a 10 min drive to get there but very nice. There is a deli by the pool that was delicious and their pies were phenomenal.

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We have been coming to this area for the last 17 years and have always rented a cabin in the mountains. The last few yrs we have met our friends from Florida do this year there was 10 of us and this cabin is beautiful and very, very clean we have already decide next year of we all come together again we will stay in this cabin. This was probably the cleanest cabin we have ever stayed in. The driveway was being worked on when we were there and it was a mess. The first time we pulled straight in and backed out our car bottomed out (and I have a new car) so from there on we backed in and we had 3 cars in the driveway. Charles was keeping us updated the entire time by e-mail and did pay for our dinner the last night. I didn't ask for any refund but hopefully if we rent next year he would give us a small discount. Over the years of renting in the mountains you find lots of steep driveways and some are not the best places to park. If the driveway would of been fixed it wouldn't of been a problem. The shower was nice and strong, kitchen was filled with plenty of stuff but I left my good knife there, beds were awesome, deck was awesome with a great view. We would go back tomorrow if we could. Also another thing the pool at the bottom of the hill we used one afternoon and it was a nice end to our vacation you just go in and tell them were you are staying. Love this home and thank you for sharing with us.

The log home home is situated high on the mountain with a beautiful view and plenty of space.

  • 2 of 5

The home could have been cleaner. I emailed the owner about this and he said he would forward my email to the property manager. The bathrooms & kitchen are well stocked with linens & just about anything you would need to cook. The kitchen has a great pantry. The beds are comfortable.

Our least favorite thing is the driveway. Access is just around a bend and straight up. What made this even more challenging was during our stay a new septic tank was being installed. So for 3 out of 5 days we had to leave about 8:30 am and couldn't return until after 5. We had to back down the steep driveway. There was only 1 day that there weren't workers onsite. One evening an electrician showed up at 10 pm unannounced because some lines to garage had been cut during excavation. We could have parked on the road, but it was 100 yards down from driveway entrance and then a walk up the steep hill. Not good for someone with orthopedic issues. The owner had communicated about the work but told us it would be Monday only. We asked for a portion of our rent back, he offered to buy us dinner for our inconvenience. We had already spent money on lunches out and had not been able to eat the groceries we had purchased, so we asked for money back. He has said he has mailed us a check. It really put a damper on our enjoyment. We would not rent this home in the future.

Stairway to Heaven? Stairway to Hell more like it!!

  • 1 of 5

This was the worst stay my family has ever had. We were emailed two days before our arrival that the septic system had a crack in it and it would be replaced our second day there, so we could not be parked in the driveway. You are on top of a mountain not exactly a million places to park. Plus we were assured there was no odor, well guess what as soon as we walked in the house it smelled awful! When we emailed Charlie all he said was, well my extended family just stayed and there was no odor? He could of cared less. Another issue was the house was disgusting. It looked like nothing had been dusted and cleaned for a year. The bathtub was caked with grime and dirt. I was afraid to sit anywhere or touch anything. The owner Charlie was awful to deal with he didn't care about any of the problems we were having. The last issue was they where excavating for the new septic system so there was dirt and rocks all over the driveway which totally trashed the inside of our vehicle. I would not stay here if you are thinking about it. This was the worst part of our vacation!!!

Chalet is centrally located between Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg. Surrounded by majestic mountains in Wears Valley, the home is nestled high among the canopy. It's just a short drive of twenty minutes into either of the cities. The area offers a wide selection of things to do for the individual or family. Dollywood, aquarium, theaters, horse shows, white water rafting, horse back riding, and outlet malls are just a few of the fun things to do when visiting the area. After a long day and your just plain tired, why not jump into the hot tub and enjoy the view of Bluff Mountain.
