'Shutters' is a new but traditionally designed house on the stunning west coast of Barbados. Within 5 minutes walk of the quiet but stunning Reeds Bay (see photo), 'Shutters' has the added advantage of a private pool and garden. All the rooms are spacious and airy, but the house is fully air-conditioned for those who prefer the cold!
'Shutters' is in the village of Lower Carlton which is between Holetown to the south, and Speightstown to the north. Consequently it is within easy reach of all the fabulous bars and restaurants the west (Platinum) coast has to offer. The John Moore Bar is a local bar within 7 mins walk of the house. Lower Carlton has a fishmarket which sells the most delicious (and cheap) fish, and a fruit and veg stall which sells local produce. There is also a small mini-mart. For additional shopping Bridgetown, Holetown and Speightstown are a quick bus ride away.
There are a wide variety of activities available up and down the west coast, and the wild surfing water of the east coast is about 40 minutes drive away. The house is 40 minutes from the airport.
'Shutters' is tastefully furnished and comfortable. The housekeeper will clean the house and change the bed linen and towels twice a week. The garden and pool are tended to weekly.
We chose to have Shutters in Lower Carlton because I'd visited Barbados many times and wanted to have a house with a Bajan feel away from the massive hotels. It turns out to have been a wise choice because the neighbourhood is very safe and the neighbours extremely friendly and helpful. Many of our guests leave the house on first name terms with the neighbours.
It has a great location short walk to a couple local rum shacks, great little beach. Short drive to either Hold town or Speightstown. A real locals kind of place. Super short Cab ride or beautiful beach walk to Mullins Beach/beach club bar. All around great spot.
A wonderful holiday with the friendliest locals. A holiday of discovery in our mini moke, amazing beeches and just a lovely opportunity to let a holiday evolve and see what each day holds. Great local fish market and the local beech to ourselves! Would highly recommend it and can't wait to go back as there is still so much we would like to do and see. Thank you Jennifer for looking after us and for your recommendations, and for also arranging a lovely welcome for us when our flight was delayed. We can't wait to go back!
Shutters, perfectly situated for a great relaxing family holiday. The friendliest community I've had the pleasure to stay within. We took the teenagers who loved exploring the island on the ragga bus and by Moke or lazing on the beach just minutes from Shutters. The fresh squeezed juice sold on the local beach was to die for. Great local food, lots of variety for all. Jennifer was, like Shutters, amazing, Thank you for a great time, we hope to be back.
This was our second holiday at Beautiful Shutters. It is such a lovely friendly place, relaxing and spacious. My partner and I - and our 3 teenagers, who made friends with the locals and had some great times.
We bought freshly caught fish at the end of the rd, yummy barbeque.
Snorkeling with the turtles on reeds bay was amazing. Jennifer the owner has always been very helpful and keen for us to have a fantastic holiday.
Once again Jennifer - thank you
The fact that this was my third visit to beautiful Shutters House speaks volumes. I have always said I prefer to try new places but when you find a place which is so easy to enjoy, it's hard to resist. This trip was my first time at Shutters with my three daughters aged 23,18, and 14, plus two of their friends, and without exception we all had a wonderful holiday, relaxing on the verandas, in the lovely garden, by the pool or taking a few minutes stroll to the beautiful beach at the end of the road. The house is in a great location for exploring the Island and is a very clean, comfortable and spacious home from home, with all you needs provided. The exceptional efforts of Jennifer the owner, manager Sonia and the local team make for a stress free holiday.Nothing seems too much trouble with great recommendations for car hire, restaurants, and activities. A highlight this holiday was the boat trip with Michael (recommended by Jen) from Folkestone Marine Park to swim/ snorkel with Turtles and over a shipwreck...fantastic! I hope to be back very soon.
The house, gardens, pool and location are fantastic. Although situated in local residential area the locals were very friendly and we felt safe at all times.
The house is very close to Gibbs beach which in our opinion, having spent many years visiting the Island, is one of the best in Barbados.
Jefferson is the owner of Carlton bar and grill situated at the end of the road and who is extremely friendly and assisted in sourcing the best value hire car, taxi and island boat trips.
The villa owner, Jennifer, is also very friendly and helpful.
All in all a fantastic villa and holiday
