About Ken Sachs

2nd floor deck off kitchen/living area overlooking Atlantic on Thanksgiving 11-26-09. Sunny & 65 degrees. The beach is great any time of the year. You've got the whole beach to yourself! 11-27-10 update...came back for 2010 Thanksgiving and we got into the 70's-the weather was great again!

Ken Sachs purchased this townhome in 2005

Why Ken Sachs chose Topsail Island

After searching up and down the southeastern Atlantic coast we found the perfect spot to buy our '2nd Home' to get away from things. Surf City (Topsail Island) provided peace and tranquility and 2 hours from our main home. Unlike many of the other alternatives Topsail was less commercial (traffic) and developed, but there were still many conveniences within 5 minutes. Beaches were not crowded no matter what time of year. There are plenty of other options besides going to the beach (i.e. fishing, golfing, tennis, biking, etc.) but we never get tired of the beach. There is also a good assortment of restaurants with very affordable price ranges, and if you get tired of going out you can always pick up fresh seafood from 'The Crabpot!' Our beachhouse is our sanctuary and provides the 'therapy' we need to get away from it all.

What makes this townhome unique

Never bored. Watch the sunrise (or moonrise) from the privacy of your own deck or bedroom. Walk the beach. Fish. Swim. Sun. Run. Take bike-rides (island has bike lanes). Eat. Play monopoly or cards. Watch movies. Surf the net. Shop. Do NOTHING!

Amazing beach house

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place. My wife, two young kids (>4yrs) and parents all fit comfortably. The location is excellent, beach access was incredibly convenient and not at all crowded. The house itself is beautiful, full-featured, well decorated, and just a pleasure to stay in. The owners and property manager were easy to work with. The pool is close, not huge, but nice as an alternative to the beach. Plenty of gear to cook with. The master shower on the 2nd floor is outstanding. Only gripe - only got about eight or nine cable channels - but we ended up streaming pretty much anything we wanted to watch on rainy days with stuff that we brought, so it wasn't a big deal.

Do yourself a favor and book this place!

Wonderful beach rental!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at Topsail! There were 6 of us (my husband and I and four adult children) and we were very comfortable. The set up is great! The outside shower and entry on the first level was very convenient. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen had the necessary items and plenty of room. We could fit all 6 of us around the table for dinner but not in the TV area without pulling in chairs. An extra chair in there would be great but I'm not sure where you could put it. We did hang a sheet over the window in our bedroom to block out some of the sun. There are blinds but we wanted to sleep in a little on vacation and the sun woke us up early! You also have to carry things up and down the stairs since there are 3 levels.

The view from the balcony of the ocean is great! The beach was an easy walk over the dunes and it was lovely! The water was clear and blue. We founds lots of shells, sand dollars and shark teeth! Extra sand chairs in the unit were a great help.

The island is a very residential area and my kids complained there was not much to go do other than the beach. We did all 3 jigsaw puzzles we found and played games. But that was ok with me! I loved it and we all agreed we could go back there again! We would take more games and things to do inside. The swimming pool is small and we didn't spend much time there. But it was ok.

The owner is very responsive to questions and was easy to work with. Overall this was a great rental!

Great beach family vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful stay for a week long family vacation. There were only four of us, so we had plenty of space. But with a one and four year old the extra space was a great bonus to have so both kids could have their own spaces. There are essentially two master bedrooms - so in the future we would definitely consider coming back with another family. The unit is very clean and well maintained and has all the amenities you would need for a week away from home. Views of the ocean are great as well as the ocean sounds and you really are just mere steps to the beach. You will not be disappointed!

Another great trip to Topsail

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth trip to Topsail and our third time staying at Ken and Carol's condo. Once again we had a GREAT time. The condo was very clean and had everything we needed for a great stay. Fully stocked kitchen had everything to make our meals while listening to the ocean with the door to the deck open. My wife and I look forward to our Topsail trip because we get the best sleep here listening to the ocean. Very relaxing and family friendly. We will definitely come back!

Our idea of a perfect vacation......

  • 5 of 5

Isn’t it great when go somewhere with very high expectations and then those expectations are exceeded in every way. That was our experience at this property.

Our adult daughter, currently in graduate school in Chapel Hill, called us in September and said that she wanted to spend her fall break with us. How often does that happen? Just me, my wife and our daughter for a long weekend…PERFECT!!!

I immediately checked a map because I know precisely how my daughter defines the perfect vacation: A great balcony overlooking the ocean and immaculately clean accommodations. I chose Topsail for its casual natural beauty and proximity to the Research Triangle area and this property because of its balcony and awesome VRBO reviews.

I realize this was a large unit for three however our daughter has severe allergies to dust and pets and of paramount importance to us was cleanliness. We were not disappointed. The unit was impeccably clean and our daughter had absolutely no allergies during our stay. This is rare for her.

The balcony was fantastic and we spent most of our time there. My wife and I loved watching the sunrises every morning with sweatshirts and coffee. Daybreak over the ocean is an incredible experience. The bird life and marine life that can be observed from this perfectly positioned deck are awesome. We regularly watched dolphins cruise by and even spotted a whale and whale spout. Evenings found us on the deck with a glass of wine at dusk and then locating constellations at night. The deck is beyond awesome. The pictures do not do it justice.

We brought our bikes and loved biking up and down the rarely traveled bay front roads not far from our unit and we biked up and down the ocean front road as well. A bike ride to the pier was a highlight. We were glad we brought them.

Although prior to leaving we made some preliminary cool restaurant choices we never ate out even once. The kitchen was very well equipped and has a fantastic ocean view. So, some quick shopping at a close by (12min) Harris Teeter and we were set. Fun cooking, dinner on the balcony overlooking the ocean…..wish we were still there.

The unit has a large inventory of DVD’s so we had a great time with a movie each night. (Catch Me If You Can and then, the next night, a chick-flick I ignored…thankfully the unit has great wifi…).

We were extremely pleased with everything about our mini-vacation and will be renting this property again.

Great vacation close to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this condo in July and am just getting to take time to say how wonderful everything was. This was our first time visiting Topsail and think we chose wisely. Everything was so beautiful decorated and comfortable. It really was stocked with anything you could need for the week. All our children had their own comfortable bedrooms. We loved having such easy access to the beach and having the extra beach chairs was a plus. The owners were very responsive and helpful with any issues. Would definitely stay here again.
