We fell in love with the Florida Keys back in the 1980's when we took our first trip there. We toured the Keys from the water in a catamaran. We bought our first place there shortly after. We love owning properties in the Keys because it gives us a reason to come down from Wisconsin a couple times a year. We are looking to retire to the Keys someday.
Rent My Island purchased this house boat in 2004
The beauty of this island and it's surroundings was to irresistible to turn down.
This island is so beautiful and tucked away in this amazing cove surrounded by mangroves. It was the perfect place to put our houseboat. If you like camping or RV'ing, this place will blow your mind.
The houseboat fit our needs perfectly for the “camping” we did while we were there. We enjoyed the open-air feel and “back to nature” aspect of Quiet Cove Key. While I enjoyed using the fishing poles for catching some fresh “grunts” for lunch and dinner on a couple of days, we got the most use out of the kayaks………..definitely a nice addition. The location of Quiet Cove Key is very good, also. The view from most angles is of un-populated or un-developed land or water, and the proximity to civilization is more of a security blanket than an intrusion. The week seemed all-too-short. I've already shown the photos to the folks in my office and they were very impressed/envious. We’ll definitely keep this option for vacation in mind for future occasions.
I had the best trip of my life on this private island! It was such a cool experience at an affordable price! It was super private but I was also able to go out to restaurants as they were only 15min away! I will be going back!
This past winter (2013/2014) was one of the worst for northern Indiana. Dealing with no sunlight and being buried in several feet of snow for most of the winter, we were questioning our very sanity by mid January. Before my wife had a nervous breakdown, we elected to use up some airline miles and found this quaint little island near Marathon in the keys. We enjoy camping and were looking for something rustic and more unique than just staying in a typical hotel. This was a perfect solution to our winter blues and was quite an adventure. We flew into Miami arriving late night, the owners of the island even recommended an affordable motel on the way to the rendezvous point because you have to check in during the day. We woke early the next morning and drove down to the meeting spot. There our contact person met us and took us out on a small skiff to the island and gave us a tour and instructions on just about everything relating to our stay on the island. The island does not have sleeping accommodations on it, however there are lots of comfy hammocks if you want to sleep under the stars and a nice picnic area with a fire pit and a generator (which provides power to the houseboat that is parked on a large pier on the island). We had a blast exploring nearby areas with the skiff, there are kayaks provided on the island, and one morning we even had two dolphins that were launching out of the water just a few feet away from our pier. Just a short ride from the island on the mainland there is a great restaurant/bar called the Island Fish Co. and they have great drinks and the food was good too! We enjoyed several meals there during our stay, and also grilled out on the island and enjoyed the privacy and seclusion that the island offers. Sitting by the fire pit each night felt like we were on "Survivor" (thankfully my wife didn't vote me off the island). We did invite some friends from the Marathon area over during the day for a cookout. There are several very large iguanas that hang out on the island, however if you leave them alone they don't bother you and they love bananas. Next time we "may" bring the kids because of the camping aspect of the island. It's a lot of fun and so quiet and peaceful at night. Highly Recommend to anyone looking to get away from civilization for a week to unwind.
You are in the family friendly town of Marathon, known as the heart of the Florida Keys. There are plenty of activities such as chartering a fishing boat, hiking in Curry Hammock State Park, visiting the Dolphin Research Center, sunbathing at Sombrero Beach, or relaxing at Sunset Park. You can also play golf and tennis at Key Colony Beach Resort as well as visiting them many coral reefs, sailing, parasailing, or renting a jet ski. If this island shows reserved on the calendar, call us anyway as we have other island options.
