About Michael

I'm an artist, living in New York.

This is the property, where I have my art studio, weekend house and non-stop property improvement project. Every year, there is something new in the cottage or on the lake. This year, we added additional bedroom and bathroom on a second floor. A lot of hand crafted wood work, done by real masters.

Michael purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Michael chose Hurleyville

Here, you have it all: cosy house, swimming pond, direct access to new bike line, forest, open fields, hiking, walking, running, shopping, eating, drinking and doing nothing under the sky.

What makes this cottage unique

Direct access to newly build bike line on the old O & W Rail Trail: https://www.traillink.com/trail/o--w-rail-trail-/

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at the Indian stone property with my father and a few friends . I was absolutely moved by how tranquil and beautiful this property is ! The owners are lovely people, stopped by to see if we need anything. The quaint guest house is so spacious inside with each bedroom uniquely decorated and styled with beautiful antique furniture and equipped with every comfort ! The kitchen table is large and perfect for large country dinners with friends and loved ones . There is a perfect fire pit outside , a grill and a long picnic table! The yard is absolutely picturesque with magnificent elms and large gorgeous trees surrounding you but the property it self is very well kept tho somehow still gives one a feel of frolicking in a field of whiled flowers, it was important to me that the space was well organized since my father is elderly and uses a wheel chair and we were able to manage wonderfully ! There are comfy lawn chairs , plenty of sun and shade right on the property and the 5 minute walk to the lake was simply magical ! The very easy to follow path surrounded by beautiful woods leads to the most serene and clear water lake I've ever seen !

The little bench in front of the lake is so inviting to sit and meditate on the sounds of the woods and water , we took the little row boat out for pure joy of getting to the other side of the lake where there is dock an old school float for sun tanning and naps on the water ! Total ecstasy and child hood nostalgia of summer getaways and joyful nature ! So glad we came up to this place , it had great energy and was clearly built with love and kept with care . Can not wait to return !

The perfect relaxing summer cabin

  • 5 of 5

I just stayed at Michael's cabin with my family (myself and my husband with 4 young kids). The house was perfect for us. It has 4 spacious bedrooms and an eat in kitchen and a separate living room. We spent most of the time outdoors. The fire pit in front of the house is set up perfectly and there is a picnic table for eating. The property is expansive and my kids had a great time running, hiding, and playing in the fields until it got dark outside. The pond is at the back of the property and a very short walk from the house. The weather was a little cool this weekend so we didn't get to swim as much as we would have liked but the pond is beautiful and clean and quiet. Michael had a rowboat right by the water.

I didn't find Michael to be overbearing at all (like some of the other posts have said). He came over briefly to say hello but other than that he and his family minded their own business and we minded ours.

The house was well equipped with extra blanket and towels. The kitchen had plants of dishes and pots and pans. We had to run out to buy a couple of basics (tin foil, tissues...) but shopping was very close and it wasn't a big deal.

I would definitely rent this cabin again. It is a perfect, quiet vacation spot.

Perfect family getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely long weekend at Indian Stone Property with our two young children and another family of four. The newly renovated upstairs made it a perfect space for two families. We enjoyed exploring the large property, swimming in the pond, and eating smores by the fire. I highly recommend!

A delightful retreat in the Catskills

  • 4 of 5

We had a warm reception from Michael who showed us around the house and gave us an intro to making a fire in the wood stove.

The house was rustic and inviting and harkened back to a time when living was simple. The house was set in a beautiful area, with a short trail to the pond. The trail was bordered by an ancient stone wall reflecting on earlier times when the land was dotted with farms.

The cabin was spacious and well appointed and their was original art on every wall and antique furniture in every room.

There were retrofit architectural features throughout that are truly unique - this is a one of a kind property.

And the sky at night was truly magnificent.

We enjoyed our stay, were able to spread out comfortably and have some area family come by to visit.

Perfect in every way!!!!!@

  • 5 of 5

Such a perfect long getaway weekend. House was spotless. Loved all the antiques. We have 4 teen daughters and they all had a memorable time. From the hiking, swimming in the lake, to the campfire. With all our busy lives this was a perfect quiet getaway. The owner was always very courteous and responded to any questions immediatly. If you're looking for a quiet beautiful place from a busy life, this is the place!!!!! We will be back.

A Warm and Generous Welcome

  • 4 of 5

My daughter, son in-law, 15 month old grandson and I (along with our dog) stayed at Hidden Pond for a week. We found the house to be quite comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and spacious bedrooms. Michael supplied an ample quantity of wood for our nights around the fire pit. Our pet was in dog heaven, with a meadow to romp in and many places to explore. We probably overlooked this when we booked, but were a bit disappointed that we couldn't see the pond from the house/lawn. Unfortunately, there's not a lot to do close by, though we had a good hike on Walnut Mountain, a fun rainy day trip to the Woodstock museum in Bethel and a good trek at Kaaterskill Falls. This property is truly away from it all (though the WIFI is excellent), and Michael is an accommodating host responsive to any need we had.

This property has got to be the best in all of Hurleyville! We are so happy we chose it. Everything was perfect and we're still missing the pond. Our kids left wondering when we can return. We are very grateful to Mike for providing such a great vacation place for his guests. We recommend it 100%, if you want an unforgettable time ! THANKFULLY, The Lopez Fam.

Hurleyville, New York is a hamlet in the Town of Fallsburg, New York in Sullivan County, New York. The town lies along County Road 104 and was originally developed because it was on the main route between the Villages of Liberty and Monticello, New York. The zip code for Hurleyville is 12747.

Hurleyville is bordered by the Town of Thompson, the Town of Liberty, the hamlet of Loch Sheldrake and the hamlet of South Fallsburg.

Hurleyville was originally settled by William Hurley. The local economy was originally centered on dairy farming, but gradually became part of the Catskills Borscht Belt resort area. During its heyday as a resort Hurleyville was home to many popular summer hotels, bungalow colonies and boarding houses, the biggest and best known was the rather grand Columbia Hotel located atop Columbia Hill.

Hurleyville was a station stop along the New York, Ontario & Western Railway (O&W). Due to mail getting mixed in with that of Hurley, New York, Hurleyville was temporarily renamed "Luzon Station". This name was chosen because the postmaster had a son stationed at Luzon Island in the Philippines.[1] Automobile competition led to abandonment of the O&W in 1957.[2]

There are currently two restaurants in the hamlet named "Frankie and Johnny's Presents Nardi's" and "The Pickled Owl" as well as recently open Makers Club and huge new building for Art Center.

Hurleyville residents are part of the Town of Fallsburg. Students attend Benjamen Coser Elementary School and Fallsburg Central High School. Sullivan County Community College is approximately one mile away in Loch Sheldrake.

Hurleyville is served by the Hurleyville Volunteer Fire Department; law enforcement services are provided by the Fallsburg Police Department. Hurleyville is also home to the Sullivan County Historical Society.
