This Non-Smoking / No Pets home has an incredibly massive, screened-in porch facing due east overlooking the scenic water paradise of Dividing Creek. It was built as a summer cottage by a millionaire in the thirties and retains much of its feel with large wood beam ceilings in the living and dining rooms. Paradise is closer than you think with quick access to Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington DC. The living room sports an impressive fireplace and the downstairs playroom is complete with a (natural gas) wood burning stove, 55' flat screen with FIOS, free wifi zones and a ping pong table.

Dividing Creek is one of the most beautiful on the Chesapeake Bay. Water depth is impressive at 10'-12' at the end of the pier and the creek is commonly used by sailors and boaters as an overnight anchorage. Music can be heard in the distance from the famous "The Point" crabhouse and grill just across on Mill creek, and fireworks seem like a weekly event. A large lower grassy level makes a perfect spot for family picnics or parties. Four kayaks, inflatable rafts/tubes and a pedal boat!. Lots of different sized life vests for our guests. For boat owners, a deep-water slip is available at the pier, please call for more info.
The location and natural beauty of this land is unrivaled and was valued by Indians as well. Walk down the 18 rock steps to one of the most desirable, wide, deep water and weather protected creeks on the Chesapeake Bay. Blue Herons, Ducks, and Canadian Geese are your neighbors. Steamed crabs, corn-on-the-cob, and a cold brew is your celebration. Crab and fish right off the pier. Bring your fishing rods!
We know that you will thoroughly enjoy your stay at our cottage. This is one of the most scenic places on earth... that's why we live only two doors down!
John & Marianne Wells are both engineers (VA Tech) and currently run their own business in Columbia, MD. They have two children who are both recently married and live in the area. They have lived in Iowa, Georgia, Virginia and settled right back next to John's grandfather's summer shore cottage.
John Wells purchased this cottage in 1995
Largest screened porch on the bay with fantastic views and relaxing environment. A shore vacation you will always remember.
Wells Cottage is perfectly located. You can easily tour Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington DC from this location. The cottage is waterfront but close to shopping and restaurants. Many of our renters simply enjoy sitting in the porch swing and watching the activity in the creek. Groups of all types family, business, yoga retreats, all enjoy the peaceful and enjoyable setting of Wells Cottage.
We spent an idyllic 12 days at Wells Cottage to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday. Everything in the listing description is accurate, but cannot possibly do justice to what a charming, comfortable, clean and well-appointed place we found upon arrival.
John Wells is exceptionally responsive to phone calls and email, both in making reservations and also during our stay. We found an informative binder on the dining room table; essential info (where to find linens, wifi password, etc), as well as interesting tidbits of local history. He stopped by shortly after we arrived and provided a comprehensive walk-thru (and more local history).
Having visited quite a few properties that advertised recreational equipment, I was truly impressed that the kayaks, paddles, life vests, and bicycles were of good quality and in very good condition. Someone was kayaking or biking every day we were there. There is enough equipment that several people could go out together at one time and enjoy each other's company, which was one of the main objectives of our family retreat.
Inside the cottage we found many thoughtful touches: games, puzzles, books, terrific cable TV service. In the spacious basement there were a ping pong and fussball tables.
The kitchen was very well stocked and we used it constantly. It is galley style with a retro feel. If you're looking for granite countertops and stainless appliances, this ain't it. BUT, we found everything we needed for meal prep and there is a FANTASTIC 5-burner gas stove that was a joy to use. There were 12 of us for a couple days and we still had plenty of room around the dining room table. (If you're not into cooking, plenty of great restaurants a short drive away.)
Wells Cottage is quiet and secluded, yet convenient to groceries, restaurants, convenience stores, downtown Annapolis, and Baltimore Washington International Airport. We spent many happy hours relaxing on the screened porch admiring the scenery, bird watching, and talking.
Highly recommend this unique property. Mom's 80th birthday celebration was a huge sucess and we hope to return some day.
We rented this cottage over Labor Day weekend as a gathering spot for family living as near as Baltimore and as far as England. The house and the location met and exceeded our expectations. Not only was it conveniently located (Baltimore, Annapolis, BWI), and comfortable, but it had so many things to keep people of all ages entertained. Our group kayaked, crabbed, lounged, hung out in the hot tub, took walks, played board games around the sizable picnic table on the screened porch, played ping pong and fooseball in the basement, cracked crabs (again around that big table), grilled, and just had fun being together taking in the awesome views. We were so busy enjoying the activities and the creek that I am happy to say no one turned on the TV. The basement, with a variety of sofas was the perfect place for the kids to all sleep together.
The owners were very responsive to all our needs and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. Obviously, they love the house and the location on Dividing Creek as witnessed by the care that they put into this treasure. We hope to return soon.
We stayed for a week on New Year's Eve. We loved everything. It worked perfectly for my family of 6, but the house can accommodate additional more people. John was a great host. He lives nearby and was kind enough to encourage us and help us go out and kayak. We enjoyed the view from the house, from the master bedroom, not to forget the view from the hot tub which we enjoyed mornings afternoons and evenings.
My teenagers loved it all. We will come back. Thanks John.
Thank you so much for sharing your cottage with us this last week. It was just perfect for what we needed. We were able to spend quality time together, and really enjoy each other’s company. The big TV was great for the football weekend. The dining room table was big enough that we could all eat together. The kids enjoyed the ping pong, foosball, and paddleboat; and everyone enjoyed the board games. The cottage's location so close to both Annapolis and Baltimore was ideal. You are the perfect hosts—so helpful and easy to get to know.
This was a perfect place which was spacious and comfortable for 10 people. The best part was the location and the view of the lake.
This place gave us the privacy but still was very close to the Market and restaurants.
Owner lives close by and stopped by to check if everything was good. So overall it was a great experience which everyone in the
The cottage was all it appeared to be in the photos, it was perfect for our family of 10 to get together for the holiday. Owner's were very helpful and have thought of everything a family with children would need for a holiday on the water.
