Santa Barbara County Chateau / Country House Rental Photos and Description

Main House: 4 bedrooms/3 baths/2 halfbaths/sleeps8;Cottage:1 bedroom/1bath/slps2

Character abounds in renowned winemaker Bryan Babcock and his wife Lisa's enchanting 1920s Mediterranean home, situated perfectly for exploring the spectacular Santa Barbara Riviera (3 minutes from beach!) and nearby wine country. Located in Montecito on nearly an acre of landscaped grounds, the four bedroom house accommodates eight, the guest cottage another two. From the moment you drive up to the fragrant flower filled exterior and open the front door into the arched and tiled foyer, you may believe you have stepped back in time. Settle in front of the old world fireplace, central to the inviting, antique filled living room, open the French doors out to the expansive lawns and gardens, and stay awhile.

Ideal Rooms for Entertaining: The warm colored dining room comfortably seats up to ten guests and is conveniently situated next to the gourmet kitchen. Well equipped, the cheery kitchen, with fantastic garden view, features a 6-burner Wolf range with double oven, dishwasher, microwave, and stainless refrigerator, as well as accessories for meal preparation and service. Outstanding caterers are available for special events. Adjacent to the dining area, is the large, cozy family room with views of the majestic oaks, flower garden, and fountain. Curl up with a book or watch a movie in this gorgeous room with beamed ceiling and beautiful old world fireplace.

Charming, Restful Bedrooms: Upstairs, four charming and restful bedrooms await you. Three of the bedrooms have their own bathrooms. The master, with an en suite bathroom has a shower, garden view, television and romantic balcony. Another bedroom, also with balcony, has a bath adjacent and a view of the rose garden. The third bedroom, with en suite bathroom and shower, has a beautiful antique bed and a gorgeous view of the garden with the fountain below. Finally, the fourth upstairs room has a double bed, a small sunroom, perfect for reading, and a small half bath nearby.

Inviting Guest Cottage: Down a stone path, an inviting, two story guest cottage accommodates another two guests and is available for larger groups. The upstairs is bright, with high beamed ceilings and is thoughtfully appointed with a queen bed, charming decor, and two sets of French doors leading to a large balcony. There is a full bath upstairs as well, with a beautiful vintage tiled floor. The first level has a desk and a kitchenette with a small fridge, sink, coffeemaker, microwave and toaster, with seating and a cute table perfect for a morning scone and coffee. Parking is conveniently available near the home's front door, with room for a vehicle or two back by the guest cottage.

Guests (21 years of age or older) while staying at the residence receive complimentary wine tasting at Babcock Vineyards Tasting Room located in the acclaimed Santa Rita Hills wine appellation near Lompoc.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a beautiful place you have here. I so appreciate you working with me to make Joe's birthday so special. The family loved being here and the kids loved the swings and play area. The party was a huge success! Thank you.

Better in real life than the pictures.

  • 5 of 5

The Babcock Home is absolutely amazing. We hosted our sons rehearsal dinner for a small group and we truly felt like we were in Italy. With the finest kitchen I have ever seen, we were able to put on an Italian feast. The ambiance both inside and outside was better than any restaurant we could have ever gone to. The house is perfect for any occasion. I would highly recommend it and would live to go back.

Tuscany in Montecito

  • 5 of 5

Lovely stay in the foothills of Montecito. House was tucked down a narrow drive. Beautiful grounds. We stayed in the Guest Cottage. Quaint two-story with an old world feel. A great balcony to enjoy morning coffee or afternoon wine and cheese. The cottage had a comfortable bed, well appointed bathroom and lots of living space. Close Santa Barbara and about an hour from Solvang (north) or the Ronald Reagen Presidential Library (south). Many wineries in close proximity...but the most fun one was the owners winery at Babcock Winery and Vineyards in Lompoc! Don't forget to tour the Santa Barbara Mission!

Great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Four generations of our family came together for a rare family vacation, and this house was just perfect. It was well-equipped with everything we needed, offered several different spaces for people to relax - alone and together, which is key for us -, was close to town, the beach and hiking trails. We hope to come back sometime soon!

Anniversary Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying the the guest house on this lovely Montecito estate! Not usual to just rent out the guest house, but since no one was in the Estate House on the dates we requested, we were allowed this wonderful access! Lisa was gracious to offer some restaurant suggestions and the housekeeper allowed me a peak at the Estate House...let's just say, I want to bring my whole family so we can stay there...and use the fabulous Wolf Range!! :-) We took advantage of the free tasting at Babcock Vineyards and purchased some fabulous wines. Even joined the Wine Club!! We enjoyed coffee in the morning and wine in the evening on the veranda. Perfect for a get-away weekend and within an hour of some wonderful day trip locals. Lovely stay!!

three generation family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three generations gathered for a vacation at this lovely old estate. It was so great for our needs and we had a lovely time. We had a 6 month baby, two one years olds, and a four year old, so there was lots of down time and yard time. The house is very open to the yard, with lots of downstairs family space. We enjoyed a family meal each night after the little ones went down, and the kitchen was so well equipped, easy to work in together, and the dining table large and gracious. The back yard was perfect for exploring for the kids, and reading and visiting for the older generation. The bedrooms worked out well for our families. There are lots of nooks and crannies which helped us nap our little ones. The only thing I would change is change out the one double to a queen, we laughed about the creaky antique bed frames, and never found pot holders! We also had to block off the staircase, which is not little people friendly. My one daughter walked in and declared she felt like she was in the south of France, and relaxed. This is not a modern home, but full of character and antiques. Our guys were close to surfing spots, we hung out at the beach in front of the Biltmore, and enjoyed downtown Santa Barbara, all close. Also, a great hike, a block away. We hope to return.

Perfect location for wedding or gathering

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently had our wedding and reception at the house and everything about the property was perfect. The house comfortably accommodated the wedding party and the guest house was the perfect addition for a couple with a small child. The living area is open and spacious with a comfy lounge/family room and the dining room is large and perfect family meals. The rooms flow perfectly from one to the next and the fireplaces in two rooms give the house a warm, cozy, inviting feeling. There is also a guest bathroom downstairs, which is convenient if you have visitors over. All of the bedrooms are fairly large and very comfortable. The exterior of the house and the yard gives you the feeling that you are in Italy at a villa in the countryside. The landscaping is lush and beautiful – and the front of the guest house makes for some amazing photos! Our wedding was small and this was the perfect sized yard for both the ceremony and reception and there was plenty of room for people to eat, mingle, dance, etc. Our guests actually commented that it was a perfect place and probably the best wedding they had been to in a while. The staff for the house is also very attentive and helpful with any questions you may have. I would highly recommend this house for any events, gatherings, special occasions, etc.

Map

Car: necessary

Santa Barbara is known as the “American Riviera”. Majestic mountains are the backdrop for one of the most beautiful “beach towns” in the country with a temperate climate year round making it a wonderful destination anytime. A congenial, small town atmosphere ensures a relaxing vacation along with a wide variety of things to do from sailing to live theater to wine tasting; and the restaurants are world class. Montecito is a small rustic community minutes away from down town Santa Barbara and the beach.
