|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
Are you looking for respite from the world? Stay a million miles away but just down the road from Glen Arbor in this beautiful new log home. 'Cabin on the Creek' is a great up-north retreat! Tucked in the woods on Shetland Creek, this 4 bedroom 3 bath log home will sleep 10 people with 1 Queen, 2 Full, 2 Twins, and 1 Queen sofa-bed.
Relax by 1500 feet of creek side waterfront and enjoy the peace and quiet of 20 acres of woodland. You may just see the trout make their spawning runs in the spring and the salmon in the fall. Deer and squirrels visit almost daily.
Decks off of upper and lower level of house overlooking the creek. Only a few miles to Lime Lake, Little Traverse Lake, Sleeping Bear National Lake shore or Lake Michigan. A/C, washer/dryer, gas fireplace, fire pit, charcoal grill, cable TV/DVD/VCR, WIFI, linens provided. Will consider your well-mannered dog. No smoking.
This is beautiful, well-built home with peace and quiet! Perfect for our group of 7, but could have comfortably held a few more. The stream along side the fire pit was beautiful and clear, especially during peak fall colors. We spent our first night there sitting around the fire pit listening to the steam and had a great time together.
The furniture and beds were comfortable, plenty of additional blankets and pillows for every room. The linens and bath towels were very nice, much better than your average rental property. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you might need.
We arrived during the World Series, tried everything to get the game on the first night, but no luck. I called Ed the following day and he quickly arranged for local stations to be added to their programming and we were all set for the game the following night - very prompt and courteous owners.
One very small issue we had, when people are talking and laughing on the main level you can hear every voice and sound through the whole house, upstairs and down. I expected this since it had been mentioned on a few review. It was only an issue for those few who tried to hit the hay early.
We would love to visit this home again, close to Glen Arbor, Leelanau, and only 15 minutes from Suttons Bay. We highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the area - beautiful home!
Fall Color Tour 2016 at the Cabin on Shetland Creek was absolutely perfect. Beautiful, private, clean home with so much attention to detail. Plenty of room inside and 2 cover outside decks along with a cover walk out patio, leading to a beautiful clearing overlooking the creek. The fire pit was used daily and we sat and watch blue heron run the creek, and a great horned owl nesting in a broken off pine in the backyard. Close to Lake Michigan, Glen Arbor, Leland, Pierce Stocking Drive (a must), and many other beautiful places that make Pure Michigan a great place to be. Thanks Ed and Dawn for giving us the opportunity to bring our dog Remy. She enjoyed the fresh air on the deck from sun up to sun down.
My wife and I, along with two other couples and our three dogs all stayed here for a long weekend at the beginning of October 2016. What a great place! The location is about halfway between Leland and Glen Arbor. You are close to beaches, hiking, biking, paddling, wining , shopping, boating, whatever you like to do in this area!! It is secluded, yet close to everything, very private. It easily slept all of us, in fact we all had our own private floor. The basement is a great separate area where someone can get away or where the kids can hang out. The creek is beautiful, the little pathway to the bridge is nice. The fire pit comes in handy. Plenty of parking. The owners are very nice to let us bring out dogs, if you bring dogs, please, please make sure that they stay off the furniture and to clean up after them. We plan on coming back and would like to bring our dogs again. Great place!!!
3 adults & our lab puppy enjoyed a fabulous time at the cabin on Shetland Creek. The home is extremely clean with all the amenities and the furnishings are absolutely charming. It is perfectly located right off M-22 equidistant from Glen Arbor (15 min) & Leland. Wish the front & back doors on the main level had screens because the cross breeze was great & we enjoyed listening to the bubbling creek waters. It was quiet without being isolated. As an added bonus, this home has AC unlike many others in the area. Would definitely return & bring friends.
3 retired adults spent a wonderful week in the house on the creek.
The location is wonderful if you like secluded (we do). As advertised, it is in the woods on a creek. We all took lots of bug spray and did not need it. We sat on the deck/balcony every morning drinking coffee and had dinner there every night. However, around 8:30, we did move indoors because one of us felt a mosquito. Not bad!!!!!
The kitchen is superb for at least two cooks. There is plenty of room and every utensil one would need. However, we finally managed to find one missing utensil….a potato masher to smash some wonderful fingerling potatoes we bought at a farm stand. As you can tell, if that is the only utensil not available….it is a very very well stocked kitchen. There is an adequate collection of seasonings. There was a large collection of dishes, glasses, and flatware.
Water pressure and amount of hot water was excellent.
Bathrooms were comfortable and showers were powerful. Tubs were comfortable.
Beds were comfortable.
We did not use the lower level (except for the excellent washer/dryer), but did see that it was cooler than the rest of the house. That may be an issue for someone who wanted to be there.
Internet was more than adequate. Cell phone coverage was spotty (I found a spot on the porch to make calls using Verizon). In the area, our iPhone (Verizon) GPS often did not keep up with where we were.
We found that Toms in Traverse City had adequate grocery supplies. The local farm stands were great for produce. Anderson’s in Glen Arbor was pricier than Toms.
The house is rather open so sound does carry. There were barking dogs that barked a long time before their owners brought them in. At least it ended by 8 p.m. or thereabouts. That was somewhat annoying, but we were quite a distance from them. However, when we were out walking on the road, it was very annoying.
In sum, it was an excellent rental (I have rented well over 50 properties through VRBO and am pretty picky). I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to a friend to rent.
This is a very nice cabin and it is indeed in the woods on a creek. About 9 miles outside of Glen Arbor which was OK (did think it was a little closer, but that made the trips to Traverse City shorter as well). Cabin was well stocked and all the beds were comfortable. When we arrived, we went down to the creek which was not very conducive to enjoying it so myself and two others spent an hour or so "cleaning up" the creek. There was no garbage, but many downed trees, pieces of wood, etc...that we moved around and tried to build an "entryway" into the creek (too avoid the mud and dropoff edge). It all worked out.
We were pleasantly surprise of the minimal amount of bugs as well, considering it was in the woods near water...so that was great. The temperature in the cabin varied a great deal. the upstairs was somewhat comfortable while the downstairs was like a refrigerator. Not sure if that can be fixed with the way the house is built. The downstairs/basement is finished and more or less an apartment all in an of itself, which is nice.
The kitchen and eating area worked out great with plenty of room and supplies.
The three levels of decking was also nice. Found the sliding doors on a couple of the decks were very hard to lock (a hardware issue), which really only mattered for the bottom floor since this was easily accessible from the outside.
A big safety issue that should be addressed is putting something on the tub floor in all bathrooms. Very slippery. My 20 month old grandson fell (not hurt) and it was also sketchy reaching for a towel after a shower.
If staying here in the warm weather with a dry climate, plan on your car(s) getting very dusty. Again, not an issue just a note. Part of the charm of being back in the woods.
Very peaceful location and only 3 minutes from a great golf course (Manitou Passage).
Try the Market 22 store nearby for food/supplies which was great as well.
Price was reasonable for what you get as well.
Summer stays are Sat-Sat only (May 30th-August 28th)
