About Danny McNamara

My family has had a vacation home in South Lake Tahoe since I was 10 years old. 20 years ago, my father moved there permanently. For the past 10 years, my father and I have been building homes in Tahoe and selling them. But this one I built for myself and my family (that's my wife and new daughter in the photo). I work in Advertising in San Francisco and manage other family vacation homes for many years.

Danny McNamara purchased this house in 2008

Why Danny McNamara chose Rancho Bijou

Location, location, location! We decided two years ago to build a house for ourselves. After months of searching we found the perfect lot. It's near Heavenly Ski Resort (where I've had season passes for many years and from where I can ski from the mountain to the house) and off Pioneer Trail (providing quick and direct access to the Bay Area, the mountains, the lake and the Casinos while avoiding Hwy 50). It also has miles and miles of hiking and biking trails right from the front door. Which was very important to our family. After all, what's a vacation home if it's in the city?

Our family was up for our daughter's wedding, and we couldn't have been happier with the home. It is beautiful and furnished with quality amenities.

Beautiful House!

Let's Go Preds! Nashville, TN

What a beautiful house to stay in during our trip to South Lake Tahoe! Lots of great space for socializing and very comfortable, huge bedrooms. We invited friends staying at the local casinos to dinner several times. The kitchen/dining area was well suited for entertaining... we had 13 people at one time and still plenty of room! We'll be back!

Family Getaway In Style

Diana T santa monica, ca

We had a fantastic time with close friends and family at this luxurios South Tahoe home. There were plenty of room for us, and we were seven adults and three children. It takes minutes to get to the slopes, casinos and even the lake. On a typical day, we had a full day of skiing, followed by sledding on the lake and then a wonderful hot tub back at the house. The house is so close to everything that you can really fill your day with whatever you like. Plus, we have all the comforts of home, and then some. The kitchen is huge, well-appointed and perfect for our family cooking extravaganzas. We had a blast and will come back again.

Great City Getaway

This was an excellent escape from San Francisco. It is close enough to many options of entertainment and adventure in this beautiful city. Public transportation, bars, skiing, restaurants, supermarkets, hiking and if what you are looking for is peace and relaxation, they all are accessible in this wonderful property.

Clean and close to the slopes

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our time in this house!

Pros: Rooms were very clean, beds comfortable. Ample hot water for showers and baths. Nice hot tub. Nice warm house with lots of natural light and plenty of TVs. Washer and dryer are great. Minutes from town and Heavenly. Lots of soap and toiletries supplied. Plenty of towels.

Cons: Housekeeping made some interesting choices, like leaving all the towels in the dryer and not in the bathrooms, and sheets hanging and drying throughout the bedrooms upon our arrival. We folded them up and put them away ourselves. Kitchen was fairly well stocked, could really use a crock pot and a pancake griddle! Dishwasher is TERRIBLE. We had to scrub the dishes ahead of time and they still weren't coming out clean. Could really use some LED lights throughout so they don't have to warm up for so long. Wish they would supply a garage door opening remote.

Would we return? Probably!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your nice compliments. I'm so sorry to hear about the towels and sheets! Sounds like the housecleaners were not able to get back in time to finish up. I know it was a back to back rental so they only have a couple hours to clean, wash and dry between guests so I'm really sorry about that. I'll have my handyman check out the dishwasher right away. We are replacing the last few CFLs as they burn out with new LEDs / moving the CFLs to less used areas of the house. We used to supply the garage door openers but they kept 'walking away' with guests :( There is a keypad outside that guests can use to open the door from outside.

The house was great!

  • 5 of 5

Description was perfect. The pictures were accurate. 9 adults total and we never felt cramped. The neighbors dogs bark at night if you go on the deck which was sometimes annoying. The back yard is overgrown and really has no use. I would stay there again.

Great Sledding Hill too in winter - on Lake!
Car: necessary

The house is 3471 April Drive (not 3491 - I can't fix it on the map and Homeaway says they can't either!) The house is 1-2 miles from EVERYTHING (but everything is in different directions)

• Casinos: 2 miles

• Beach/Awesome Sledding Hill: 2 miles

• Grocery Store: 2 miles

• Heavenly Ski Resort: 1 mile

• Ski Run Blvd Restaurants: 1 mile

• Hiking & Biking Trails: Out Front Door

All beaches are public. Pope & Reagan beach are the best day beaches with BBQs and whatnot. Also Camp Richardson / The Beacon has a great hang out restaurant on the beach usually with Live music + the old Pope estate to check out. This is on the way to Emerald Bay (a great day trip) - stop at the ice cream shop on the corner - it's cheap! The end of Ski Run Blvd there is a long pier and a nice restaurant called the Riva Grill. The Red Hut has great breakfasts (two locations one on the 50, the other on Kingsbury Grade). Rude Brothers Coffee (on the 50 near Al Tahoe) has great coffee and treats. Cork and More has great picnic supplies and wine selection (Al Tahoe near 50).
