Newly refurbished and redecorated Condo Banana in Coral House on Tybee Island

Wireless Cable Internet service.

You don't cross any street to get to the beach. We are the 3rd house off the beach; that is, two houses are between Coral House and the beach. We are less than 1 block from a public beach access, which is an elevated wooden walkway that starts at our street (2nd Ave) and crosses about 50 feet of dunes before ending on the beach. We have a beach wagon that you can load your beach gear on and pull onto the beach.

A queen bed in the bedroom and a queen sofa-bed in the living room can sleep up to 4 people. For added comfort, central air conditioning is supplemented by a window air conditioner on the west side of the house.

Condo Banana is on the 1st floor just 3 steps up from the street and it is all on one level.

Restaurants Nearby: Within a block:

1) McElwhee's Seafood,

2) Tybee Grill

3) Sundae Cafe - a hole-in-the-wall, white-tablecloth, Gourmet

restaurant. Sundaes? Nah. (go figure) But The Sugar Shack has great ones.

4) The Sugar Shack - a decidedly downscale, inexpensive

place that serves a good breakfast, sandwiches, and hand-

dipped ice cream. Indoor or covered outdoor dining.

The 2 Lighthouses: Two lighthouses less than 3 miles apart but so radically different in character. As you approach Tybee Island, you see the impressive Tybee Light in the distance. Tall, dark, and handsome with a white cummerbund. He was honored a couple of years ago when he got his own US postage stamp. (In lighthouse circles that is akin to an Oscar.) But then as you cross the Lazaretto bridge onto Tybee Island, you look down to the left and blink. Is that a lighthouse in the water? Indeed it is. That's plucky little Cockspur Lighthouse. Weathered, plain white masonry. Not flashy at all, except ... At every high tide Cockspur stands in the ocean well off-shore. Only at low tide does the stony spur appear that supports the little lighthouse. A firm foundation after all.

Lost in the 40's/50's: So far the quaint shopping district near the pier has pretty much escaped the wrecking ball. Witness Arby's --- Tybee Island's only fast food restaurant. This is pretty much what Arby's looked like when they began in the early 60's. As for shopping, no Sak's here. We're talking beach shopping: T-shirts, souvenirs, Sno-Cones, umbrella drinks, seafood. But remember, for culture and serious shopping, there is colorful, historic Savannah, just 20-25 minutes away. Recommended reading: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, an amusing look at Savannah's high- and low-life (about 2 years on the NY Times nonfiction best seller list).

Coral House is located about mid-beach between south beach (home of the pier and shopping) and north beach ( home of the majestic Tybee Light and the former Ft. Screven, now a museum).

This was our first visit to Tybee Island. We had such a great time! We almost cried when we had to leave. We brought our golden retriever, Scout, along, too. The Condo Banana was just perfect for the three of us. The owner, Ted, was very easy to reach and quick to respond. The island was awesome! We also enjoyed spending time in Savannah. We plan on returning next spring break!

To ensure that guests stay cool enough on even the hottest summer days, we have added window air conditioners to the bedroom and living room/kitchen area.

Quaint place in close proximity to beach

My kids and I truly enjoyed staying here. It was super close to the beach and the perfect size for us. The inside was cute and well stocked. My only con would be the floor was dirty. I am sure it is hard to keep it clean with beach, etc. but the minute we walked barefoot on it our feet were black. I would just maybe recommend a deep clean to the floors once a month. Other than that it was great. :)

Owner's Response: I was in this unit a couple hours before this guest arrived, and the floors looked clean, but of course I was not barefoot. It's our policy to mop floors between guests. We do deep cleaning periodically, too.

Very pleased with property and overall stay.

The property was clean and adequately maintained. We were expecially pleased with the location and its close proximity to the beach and to several restaurants. The house was fine for four people, but more than that would be crowded. We were a little disappointed in the front patio; it was not clean and needed some updating. Overall, it was a good selection and we would recommend it to family and friends and possibly stay there again.

Owner's Response: The front patio was a bit cluttered with beach toys, beach chairs, and a beach wagon. All of that has been moved to it's proper storage location. All that remains on the patio is an umbrella table and 4 chairs.

The apartment was misleading, very small my husband is a house builder and house painter. He said the whole apartment was about 300 sq. feet. It needed a paint job. The location was great. We were there for R.& R, We could walk to the beach, there were 3 great eater, and stores, so that was great. It was great that the owner had beach chairs and umbrella and cooler for each apt. however there was only 2 carts for hauling them with 4 apts. We did get to use the cart once. Having a washer & dryer with detergent free to use was a great thing. When booking if I would have know that I would not be able to check in until 3 pm and check out at 10 am I would not have booked. That is just loosing a day but that is me. The size of the apt. worked for my family, my husband, son, and myself are small people. The bed was small the sofa bed was small I don't think they were queen.The picture of the bedroom showed a T.V. , There was none, however the TV in the living room/dinning room/ kitchen was huge and we enjoyed it. We were able to get clean towels when needed and that was great. Being a apt. and not hotel the owner had everything we needed in the laundry room.

Owner's Response: The picture of the bedroom shows 2 speakers on the table, not a TV. I can see how a casual glance at the picture could misinterpret it. Coral House has 3 apartments (not 4) and 3 beach carts. The bed in the bedroom and the sofa-bed are both queens. The main room alone is 18 ft by 18 ft; that's 324 ft not counting the bedroom and bath. It is standard procedure for homeowners to allow a 5-hour window between guests for cleaning and upkeep. That means check-out at 10 am and check-in at 3 pm. Or, it means check-out at 11 am and check-in at 4 pm.

Not at all what we pictured.

We booked this beach location for a girls weekend. The coral house looked adorable. We rented the Banana room. I have nothing nice to say other then the location was perfect. The AC filters had 1/4 inch thick layer of dirt. The drawers in the kitchen are broke. The fronts just fall off. The refrigerator was super gross and not cleaned. The fake trees are a cute addition to give it a tropical look, tons of dust and grime all over them. I can only imagine the amount of dirt floating around! The pull out couch is rough... Really rough. Do not plan on having an extra person sleep on it, it's unsanitary. We only stayed one night, we couldn't believe the condition of the place based on what we paid. We were there for maybe 15 hours and paid more then $400. We stayed one night and drove back to Florida the following morning. I contacted the owner stating the issues and asking for a refund based on the uncleanliness. He said he would look into it and get back with me. I waited 2 days and reached out. He said he would need to inspect the property. I had previously sent him about 8 pictures showing the filth. However between the time of my initial complaint and him waiting for an inspection the unit had been cleaned again. As a solution the owner offered to refund the cleaning fee.... Only the cleaning fee. I expressed that that wasn't a satisfactory solution and was then told he retracted the offer to refund the cleaning fee. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I wish there was an option to post the pictures I took while there. I'll be loading them onto face book and hoping some people save there hard earned money and spend it elsewhere.

Owner's Response: In a pleasant coincidence we got 3 reviews for this property for 3 stays in the same week. The reviews were 5 star --- 1 star --- 5 star. The 5 star reviews were from guests that rented through another popular website. The 1-star reviewer (3 stars for cleanliness) gave no indication of any problem until she texted 36 hours after her reservation was over and asked for a refund. Condo Banana had already been re-cleaned and the new guest was already there. There is no evidence that the reviewer left early at all. She was certainly there longer than 15 hours. The housekeeper saw her there late on the 2nd day of her 2-day rental. I could only judge cleanliness by the pictures she texted. A close-up of a leaf on a fake banana tree showed some dust. The bathroom exhaust fan in the ceiling showed some dust. (This was the AC filters that had 1/4 inch layer of dirt.) She admitted that the floor had been freshly mopped. The front of a small kitchen drawer had been pulled off. All the other drawers were fine. She didn't send a picture of the sofa-bed. The bed part pulls out easily and is clean. All the issues are taken care of. The banana tree and exhaust fan are clean. The drawer has been re-glued.
