I own Drop Anchor Realty and this is my personal cottage.
George F. West purchased this cottage in 2007
I have been in the real estate business here for 30 years. I have seen a lot of beautiful locations over the years and when I saw this one I just had to own it. It is a spectacular site, quiet and serene and a fine sand beach on the rocky coast of Maine
Sand Beach and complete Privacy.
My husband, myself, and my niece stayed at this wonderful cottage in July and we can't say enough good things about this wonderful, peaceful cottage. The view is beyond gorgeous and we were in heaven. The cottage is clean, cozy and just what we wanted for our Maine vacation. The cottage is well appointed and in a serene, beautiful setting. We are already planning our next stay and have such wonderful memories of this gorgeous place. A beautiful, blissful setting...what more could one ask for in Maine? An amazing stay!
Unbelievable natural beauty with all the needed comforts of home. Cup of coffee and a good book in the morning...watching the tide, the eagles and the swaying trees....and you may find that hours have passed. Mesmerizing! A perfect "time out" and worlds away.
I just returned from the most relaxing enjoyable week at Ripley Neck Cottage. It had the most spectacular views looking out on the water and when the tide went out, you could walk over to the sandbar and look for driftwood and unusual little rocks to collect. At night you could sit outside and use the fire pit and when you looked up at the sky, the whole sky would be lit up with stars. When the moon came out and it was full when we were there, it was absolutely beautiful reflecting on the water. The cottage was immaculate and had a full range of dishes and cooking necessities. George is great to deal with and can answer any questions you might have. We went shopping to some of the local pottery shops, went to Bar Harbor shopping, went to the top of Cadillac Mountain and the views were amazing and visited different scenic spots in Acadia National Park. We also went to Schoodic Point and enjoyed climbing down the rocks to the water. This cottage is well worth it and not to be missed. You will love it so much there is no doubt you will want return every year.
Ripley Neck Cottage was a place of rare beauty and deep peace for my wife Amy and I. It is off the beaten path and that is part of its magic. We would have coffee each morning on the screened-in porch overlooking the bay, watching the sun rise in the sky. All we would hear were the birds, the occasional chug-chug of a lobster boat out checking its traps, and the lapping of the waves on the shore. Absolute bliss! Time slows down in such a setting. Walked the shore near the cottage and saw a majestic bald eagle take off from the top of a pine tree! The cabin was clean and well-maintained and comfortable. George was there when we needed him but unobtrusive. The cabin has everything you would need; the bathroom is especially well appointed and spacious. We made two different side trips to Acadia National Park about 1 to 1.5 hours away. We especially recommend the Schoodic Peninsula. It is much less heavily visited than Mount Desert Island and just as beautiful. We also made one side trip to Lubec, Maine, a real find! It is just across from Campobello Island, New Brunswick and is beautiful in its own right. The FDR exhibits at Campobello are worth it but so is East Quoddy Lighthouse a little further on up the road from the Roosevelt House. Saw several whale spoutings off of East Quoddy Lighthouse. Both Amy and I would highly recommend Ripley Neck Cottage to anyone. It was two days drive from our home in Michigan but it was more than worth it. We hope to return to this place of peace again several years down the road.
We had the most wonderful time at Ripley Neck cottage! This was our first time renting a house in Maine, and we were seeking something fairly remote and away from the crowds, but still accessible to Acadia and other beautiful places along the coast. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. The view from the cottage was unbelievably gorgeous, as stunning as anything else we saw on the Maine coast. What an extraordinary experience to watch the sun rise over the water each morning and to come back to a spotlessly clean and comfortable home in the evening! The cottage has all the amenities you will need for cooking, and George was friendly, professional and available to answer our questions. We can't recommend Ripley Neck Cottage highly enough.
We absolutely LOVED this cottage, we had a wonderful week in July. This is not the touristy part of Maine's coast. It's a bit off the beaten path which we like, it's quiet. The sunrises are spectacular. Great wildlife, we even saw a moose one night coming into the driveway. George was great to deal with, he didn't bother us but was responsive when needed. The little sandbar beach is awesome and very quiet. It's a couple minutes walk to get there once you go down the wood staircase at the edge of the property. That part can be a mucky depending on tide so bring water shoes. This bay is very calm, but you do get some small wave sounds which is nice. The cottage has everything you need and nothing you don't. Tastefully and simply decorated. The bed is good, the bathroom and kitchen work well. There's a hose outside so you can wash off your beach shoes. It was not very buggy at all, to my surprise. You can buy fresh lobsters right off the boat a couple minutes away on the other side of the land tongue, where there is a small working harbor. Groceries and liquor store are about a 15 minute drive away. We also rented boats in Machias; they will rent recreational kayaks to you, but for ocean kayaks you have to sign up for a guided tour. Visited Beale Island and the Down East Institute (worth a visit), and drove to Lubec which is amazing. Bring a passport if you want to visit Campobello Island. We hope to make it back there one day. I could easily stay a month and be totally happy!
