About Jana, Jules and Tony
We moved from England to North Carolina to work at ECU in 2001. As soon as we found Ocracoke we moved so our son could attend the school and enjoy the many freedoms Ocracoke offers..and the surf! It has been the most wonderful 'home from home'. Now our son has graduated we are enjoying spending time exploring different places...but when we return to Ocracoke it rejuvenates us like no other place and always feels like home.
Jana, Jules and Tony purchased this House in 2013
Why Jana, Jules and Tony chose Ocracoke Pony Pens
We came for a weekend, then we came for a week, then we decided we couldn't stay away - the dog refused to leave!
What makes this House unique
The house is very private and it has great space. The light and decks are a wonderful asset; they provide a variety of outside areas for coffee, cocktails and good conversation. The huge windows frame the sunset skies. It has two bedrooms on the first floor level, with the third bedroom and living room being up/down a few steps so it is an excellent space for those wishing for a little separation. Many of our guests have found this area very useful for in-laws.

Gorgeous Beach Getaway Home, with only one catch
This home is absolutely lovely: beautiful modern design but always comfortable. We enjoyed the deck at all hours and the brilliant layout of the house, and its superb location. The only annoyance was the property managers were not timely or supportive in their communications, from not picking up emails for hours on the changeover day, to inaccurate information about the household amenities on the property before and during our trip, to a lengthy and astonishingly unhelpful set of interactions around the lack of a working coffee maker. The managers did not seem to be familiar with the current state of the house nor have any way of fixing issues on site--so that needs to be addressed for this to be the heavenly experience it should be.
Unfortunately the coffee maker suffered a mishap on the previous guests' last morning. It is difficult on Ocracoke to get 'instant' deliveries and this guest was offered the option of either a new coffee maker purchased at the local store or $100 compensation (which buys a lot of coffee from Ocracoke Island Coffee Shop). They chose the latter.
On the tardy responses - they are documented on vrbo, thank goodness. Not one response was slow. The wait for the check-in information was 16 minutes. The check-in details are sent when you make a booking - this guest had failed to open the document - and waited until they were nearly at the Island before asking for these details. We remind everyone to read through access to the house before arrival.
This guest also 'forgot' to tell us they were bringing their dog...not an easy thing to pack without knowing.
All in all I feel incredibly lucky to be able to deal in factual evidence and have vrbo document all interactions with guests through the website, which includes timed responses. I think that Ocracoke is a very special place, and our home is a very special home, and our 42 five star reviews speak for themselves - as does our interaction with our guests.
Maybe caffeine withdrawal is more powerful then we think!!

Wonderful stay, wonderful owners
We stayed a week at this lovely house and had a wonderful experience. It was clean, well laid out and beautifully decorated, well-kept, spacious, and the perfect rest after a nice day at the beach.
The kitchen was fully outfitted and great to cook in. I actually saw that the subsequent guest was upset about a broken coffee pot and I have to admit, I broke that pot the day we were leaving by accident as I was washing it! It wasn’t the owners fault...I am so sorry the next guests had trouble due to that!
My experience was so good with the owners though, I had to write a review about it! (They didn’t charge me for the damage, they are very understanding and very communicative) They even apologetically let us know the dryer had just died the day we arrived and made accommodations for us to have drying done meanwhile as well as delivered a new dryer in a day as promised.
Anyway, we loved our time on the island and this house (and it’s owners) is a definite gem!
Thank you for the lovely review, and we were very glad to have such appreciative and happy guests stay in our lovely home. Ocracoke embraces people who want to escape the hustle and bustle of life, slow down, catch a sea breath...and just chill out.
At this time in the Islands history our hearts go out to our many friends who lost everything due to the historic flooding. We were so lucky to escape any damage, the house sits very high, but it is humbling to see the power of nature. To our many faithful guests - please join us in supporting this unique community as it rebuilds by visiting us next year. Ocracoke is strong.
Perfect house for a perfect vacation
First off, unless you weren’t aware the house is pet friendly there is absolutely no way one would be able to tell because the house is just that clean!! The house is situated on a dead end of a quite street which we thought was the perfect location. This truly is the perfect vacation home and the owners, Tony and Jules are not only extremely attentive but also very nice. Will be staying again in the future, God willing.
We had a great vacation. Home was beautiful, nicely equipped and a good location. Will definitely stay here again
Love this house
Been coming for many years. Great house.
Spacious, well- maintained property with convenient location. Expect to wake up early due to skylights in bedrooms.
The Island has a great music and artistic scene, always something going on in summer...escape from EVERYTHING in winter. The house is WIFI.
