About John

I am a semi-retired real estate investor who fell in love with Bend and can't find any place I would rather live. There is so much to do here if you like the outdoors, but the community feel is what really makes it special.

John purchased this house in 1999

Why John chose Bend

This was my vacation home in Bend before I decided I had to live here permanently. There are not many homes on the river in Bend, which makes it quite special. You can walk through Drake Park along Mirror Pond to downtown Bend in about ten minutes, and the other direction is the Old Mill District. I love this location and neighborhood so much that when I wanted a bigger home, I moved next door. It is rare to find a place that is so close to everything and because of the river still seems a bit wild.

What makes this house unique

It's really all about the river and the central location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Way too short of a stay for us on our first trip to Bend. Thank you so much for being so accommodating from initial contact to after our "checkout". All the recommendations for rides and use of your map and trail book are so very much appreciated. You have a great place in a great town in a beautiful area. Thank you for going above and beyond!

We'll be back soon.

Excellent location in Bend with a very short walk to the most popular restaurants and breweries.

Very well appointed with an excellent location next to the best food and breweries. Don't forget to check out the Victorian which is the best breakfast place around with Bloody Mary's to match. Great kitchen and hot tub!

Great location, comfortable accomodations

  • 5 of 5

For a short weekend visit to Bend we were so pleased to find this rental in town on the river for a reasonable price. It could not have been more perfect. We were able to walk everywhere - the ampitheatre, restaurants, the park and hiking trails. We felt like locals as we hung out at the ice house 1/2 a block down the street. Sipped coffee in the morning while sitting on the dock right on the river. Slept well in the comfortable queen-size bed. We didn't have much need for all the kitchen amenities that were available, but if need be we would have had everything we needed to prepare and serve our favorite meals.

John was excellent with communication while booking and before our arrival.

We will definitely be renting this wonderful little cottage again the next time we visit Bend!

House ok, great host and great location

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the house, right on the river and close to so much. John was so welcoming and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. We had our dog with us and loved having the fenced in yard. It was also nice having driveway parking. The biggest issue we had was there was no a/c. It was warm outside when we arrived, so the inside was pretty stuffy. Had to sleep with all windows and backdoor open and we were still warm....not sure how well this would work during the warmer summer days. House itself was clean but definitely could use a little tlc. Great house if you're looking for a small, simple place to crash at night that feels like home.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Riverfront Cottage near Drake Park in Bend, OR. It's a very nice older home that was the perfect size for my wife, our dog Mouse and myself. We appreciated the fenced yard in the back of the house and the nice views since its next to the river. John was very friendly and helpful giving us advice on areas that allow dogs to be off leash. We were only able to stay one night but would love to stay there again someday soon having such a positive experience!

Perfect space, friendly host, beautiful surroundings!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time in this beautiful little cottage on the river, and are already working to set aside time for another visit to Bend just for a chance to spend more time on the dock and soaking in the atmosphere of this home and it's surroundings. John was really kind, and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Can't wait to visit again!
