About John

I am a semi-retired real estate investor who fell in love with Bend and can't find any place I would rather live. There is so much to do here if you like the outdoors, but the community feel is what really makes it special.

John purchased this house in 1999

Why John chose Bend

This was my vacation home in Bend before I decided I had to live here permanently. There are not many homes on the river in Bend, which makes it quite special. You can walk through Drake Park along Mirror Pond to downtown Bend in about ten minutes, and the other direction is the Old Mill District. I love this location and neighborhood so much that when I wanted a bigger home, I moved next door. It is rare to find a place that is so close to everything and because of the river still seems a bit wild.

What makes this house unique

It's really all about the river and the central location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Way too short of a stay for us on our first trip to Bend. Thank you so much for being so accommodating from initial contact to after our "checkout". All the recommendations for rides and use of your map and trail book are so very much appreciated. You have a great place in a great town in a beautiful area. Thank you for going above and beyond!

We'll be back soon.

Great cottage on the River

  • 4 of 5

Great location, easy to walk or bike anywhere downtown. We spent most of our time in the back yard enjoying the river. The cottage is on the small size but it was perfect for two.

Nice little place. Will stay again.

  • 4 of 5

Not the fanciest of places but perfect for a couple's weekend get away or vacation. It has what you need. The backyard and dock is so nice. We spent every morning and every evening just watching the river flow by. Location is perfect. 10+ minute walk to town and still very quiet.

Clean, excellent riverfront location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time! Couldn't have asked for a better location. Being on the river was amazing! This is a great simple home for a vacationing couple, or 2 couples if you don't mind sleeping on a pullout couch (we obviously didn't mind). We would definitely stay here again!

Cozy little red house

  • 5 of 5

The little red house has all the items you need - it's clean, comfy bed and beautiful view of the river. We could launch our paddle boards from the yard. John, the owner, lives next door and has excellent tips about things to do in the area. The wifi was very fast! Easy to walk or bike to many locations in town. We visited in the summer so we could not take advantage of the gas fireplace. Good off street parking. We will be back!

River Life is Very Entertaining!

  • 5 of 5

Loved this little bungalow perched right on the river. Rafters floating by on the swift-flowing Deschutes River made for an entertaining evening as we sat on the deck and watched the sunset. Beavers, ducks, geese made an appearance, too. Recommend the French Market restaurant only a 2-minute walk away. House is small but well-equipped, and the pull-out couch is quite comfortable. Owner John lives right next door and is very good with communication, friendly and pleasant. Would recommend this as a getaway place for a couple, but it also works for a foursome.
