There are no dogs allowed.
We came here with our kids and 3 grandkids and no one wanted to leave. We especially enjoyed the use of all the different boats to get out onto the lake since it was still too chilly to swim so early in the season. Very relaxing, quiet, and clean. We saw a couple of loons, a bald eagle, some great blue herons, went to the outdoor theatre in Honor, to Frankfort, to Sleeping Bear, and to Mission Point as side trips. The only thing we would change would be to empty some of the surfaces of "things" to make room for ours. Minor detail!
Thank you Gerrie and Dan for the use of Sunset. Our group on 60+ had a great time. We caught plenty of fish for a fish fry. The house was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Lake Michigan was a stone's throw away with the most beautiful beach imaginable..we had a fun week and would recommend this house for a relaxing week.
WOW what a beautiful location! This property was our summer sanctuary with our own private beach and dunes separating Lower Herring from the winds of Lake Michigan. I couldn't believe how peaceful it was to wake and have a cup of coffee on the deck or down by the beach. The house was spacious and furnished with everything you would ever need to cook, barbeque, or seat the whole family outside for a fish fry! Each of the many bedrooms were tastefully furnished and were a welcomed place for an afternoon nap after a day on the water. We ventured across the lake in the kayaks which proved to be one of our favorite parts of the trip. The house and the grounds were kept like a resort - every room in the house was clean and the white-sand beach was therapy for our toes! It seemed like it is always sunny on Lower Herring, we came back with golden tans - a subject of jealousy with our fiends and co-workers! The owner was friendly and informative answering our (many) questions about the area and activities. A must-do is charter fishing on Lake Michigan. The owner provided us with multiple charter options as well as many other pamphlets on activities in the area (alpine slide, mountain biking, fishing, favorite restaurants, ice cream parlors, cherry-picking, and lots more!) I would recommend this Michigan oasis to anyone looking for a peaceful location where your days can be action-packed (filled with waterskiing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, and swimming) or laid-back (settling in to a good book while listening to the water lap at the shore) either way it’s a must visit… Pure Michigan!
This is the perfect place to enjoy your summer vacation! The home is beautiful, as is the lake and beaches. There is so much to do in this area, you could spend all summer there! Our kids always love kayaking, building sand castles, and playing in the waves. The water is crystal clear and the sky is blue. If you get a rainy day you can go into the charming little town of Frankfort and check out the shops and restaurants. My kids love comparing all the ice cream shops. There is also a wonderful old movie theatre in Frankfort. There are many fun destinations for a day trip including: Traverse City, floating on the Platte River, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor (you have to visit Cherry Republic) and Mackinac Island! There are also a lot of activities that vary depending on the week that you can check out on the bulletin board at the grocery store like outdoor concerts, festivals in the surrounding towns or at Crystal Mountain, plays, pancake breakfasts, etc. There is wonderful golfing in the area, as well. The property is clean and well maintained. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need if you want to cook at home. I would highly recommend this as a destination, but it is one of the best kept secrets in America. It is worth the drive!
Our vacation at Sunset was amazing--so beautiful; I took a ton of pictures. It has a beautiful sandy beach, crystal clear lake, with access to Lake Michigan (again, a great beach). The home is clean, well-furnished and comfortable. We shopped in quaint shops in nearby towns and explored the parks and sand dunes. I would definitely recommend this property for a relaxing vacation.
I realized after my vacation at Sunset that it was the first vacation I ever had where I didn't wait in a single line! It is so beautiful and relaxing. There were swans on the lake in the morning and incredible sunsets every evening. The house is spacious and gorgeous. The furnishings are cozy and the beds were very plush and comfortable. King beds made it roomy for everyone as well. The kitchen is better stocked than my own and everything you need is at your fingertips. The driveway coming off the M22 is through the most beautiful woods with towering birch trees and evergreens. Don't forget to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes which is short drive away. The town of Frankfort has a lovely lighthouse which is a fun walk. But best of all is just to relax on the beach at Sunset and take in the incredible view or enjoy a dip in Lower Herring Lake. Hope you can enjoy a week at Sunset!
Go to Google Earth and locate Frankfort Michigan. Just south of Crystal Lake you'll see two smaller lakes Upper Herring & Lower Herring Lake. Lower Herring flows directly into Lake Michigan
