Lake Tahoe is a vacation treasure -- both winter and summer. Our chalet is just minutes from Tahoe City, and is located in the Alpine Meadows ski area. Shuttle buses stop at Hiway 89 to take you to the ski area or to Squaw Valley if you don't wish to drive.
The chalet has a large kitchen with dishes and silver for 16. There is a dishwasher, microwave, trash compactor, and a full range of small appliances. The utility room has a washer and dryer.
The dining room has a large circular table which seats nine, and a counter which seats four on bar stools. The living room has a brick fireplace with a TV/VCR and a tape/disc player.
The master bedroom downstairs has a queen-size bed and a bath with shower over tub. Upstairs is a queen bedroom, a twin bedroom, and a bunk room with two double bunks which are twin-bed size. The bathroom has two sinks, and the shower room is separate.
On the deck is a wood bin and barbecue.
In the summer there are tables with chairs for dining and lounge chairs for sunning and relaxing.
Alpine Meadows is a family-oriented ski area with runs for all abilities from beginners to expert. There are 12 chair lifts including two hi-speed four and six-person chairs. Interchangeable lift tickets are available for the Big Six ski areas: Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, Northstar, Heavenly Valley, Kirkwood, and Sierra at Tahoe.
Summer activities include swimming and tennis at the community facility, horseback riding, and bicycling on bike paths to Squaw Valley or along the river to Tahoe City and along the lake to Sunnyside. Sunnyside is a great place to dine on the deck and view all the lake activity. Jakes is another great restaurant with lake views and a deck for summer dining.
River Ranch Hotel is at the entrance to Alpine Meadows; there you can watch the river rafters, and dine on the deck or have a nice evening dinner in the dining room or in the cozy 'old Tahoe' bar with its view of the Truckee river.
There are a number of great golf courses in the area including Squaw Valley, Northstar, Incline, Ponderosa and Coyote Moon.
Nearby casinos are at North Shore and South Shore.
We built the chalet for our family skiing vacations and summer activities. As we used the chalet we discovered it's location had some great advantages over other locations particularly it's peace and quiet and the closeness to the Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley areas. Also there is no traffic congestion that people suffer driving from Tahoe City to the ski areas.
Wayne or Cherie purchased this chalet in 1974
We try very hard to maintain the chalet in tip-top condition, adding amenities as we go along. In 2014 we added flat panel TV's in the family room and upstairs bunk room which allows children to have their own TV. We are our own rental agent and are very selective in who we rent to. This is why we like to talk personally with you and why you are our guests.
Relax and enjoy the forest surrounding the chalet with many hiking trails, the community pool, horse back riding just down the road, watch the river rafters and enjoy a cocktail or lunch from the deck of River Ranch or have dinner in the dining room or the bar which has a very comfy 'old Tahoe' ambience.
This was our second time we stayed at the Alpine Meadows chalet. We love it. It is a very cozy chalet with large and comfortable bedrooms. The location is ideal as it is super close to Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley if you want to hit the slopes. We definitely recommend it!
This is not the uber fancy clean lined top shelf pad. But that's not what we were looking for, not what they advertise, and not really the true tahoe.
What it is, and correctly advertised, is the perfect low key, cozy and inviting home to spend a weekend with your family. Spacious, well equipped, clean and exactly as promised.
We had a lovely time and will absolutely stay here again, if we get the chance.
Location is great. Very close to alpine and squaw
We absolutely loved our stay at Wayne and Cherie's chalet. The home has a real, old-fashioned mountain feel, with lots of wood-paneling and furniture, and good plush carpeting to sink the feet into at the end of a long day outdoors. Wayne and Cherie have stocked it beautifully, down to the extra bag of charcoal for the grill outdoors. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the fact that we arrived in a heat wave, and the upstairs bedrooms got very hot during the daytime, with no way to cool them down in time for our son's early evening bedtime. Apart from that small kink, we had a wonderful stay at Wayne and Cherie's!
We went to Wayne's chalet for our last ski weekend of the season. The location is perfect, 2min to Alpine Meadows resort and 5 min to Squaw Valley.
The house has a very cozy mountain atmosphere, the kitchen is really well equipped for those who like cooking like us. The rooms are big and beds comfortable. This also a very well suited for families with kids. The deck is huge which makes it also a great place to stay in the summer.
We will definitely be back for our next trip to the mountains!
I organized a weekend ski trip for a group of 10, and feel incredibly fortunate to have found Wayne's ski chalet. It was meticulously clean and could comfortably fit all of us in 4 bedrooms (there was even space for an 11th guest). The ski chalet is minutes away by car from Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley. We spent our day skiing on the mountain, and in the evening, came back to build a fire, cook a group meal, and socialize. Fresh towels were neatly folded on each bed when we arrived, the kitchen was well-stocked with cooking utensils, and there were very clear instructions on everything from how to operate the TV to where best to park (we were able to fit 2 SUVs + 1 sedan in the designated parking lot). It was evident that Wayne put a lot of care and attention to detail into making his chalet guest-friendly.
If you are planning to stay here, note that there is no wi-fi or cell service (which is quite common around Alpine Meadows). We appreciated this aspect as it made everyone unplug from their devices and actually talk to each other. If you really need wi-fi, it is available at the Crest Cafe, a great coffee shop down the road. Also, I would recommend that you book this chalet at least a week in advance because Wayne typically mails the chalet keys to you. Because I made my reservation only a few days before our trip, Wayne and I decided it would be best to pick up the keys from him on our drive up to Tahoe. This added ~15-20 minutes to our drive from SF, which was not too big of an inconvenience. It also gave us a chance to meet him in person.
Most importantly, Wayne is an incredibly responsive host. He called me within an hour of booking the reservation to discuss our group's needs and logistics. He also called me after our trip to see if we enjoyed our stay. I've stayed in many vacation rentals before and never have I experienced such a high level of customer service from an owner. I highly recommend Wayne's chalet if you are looking for a clean, comfortable space for a group trip. I definitely plan to book another stay here, either during ski season or in the summer.
