Overview

Finger Lakes Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

Climbing Vine Cottage is a custom-designed yurt nestled in an organic vegetable and perennial flower garden near our home. The yurt features a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen (includes chocolate and award winning, locally roasted coffee) with seating for 6. The bathroom is stocked with towels, local soap, shampoo, etc. Sleeping accommodations include a lovely master bedroom (full size bed) with flat screen tv for dvds, fold out futon bed in the living room (full size) and two twin beds in the loft. In the winter months the yurt stays cozy with a thermostat-controlled wood pellet stove (pellets are provided). The stone patio offers outdoor dining, a gas grill and fire pit. The wildflower field, only steps away, connects to a nature preserve and Van Buskirk Gorge with many waterfalls. Guests are welcome to harvest berries, fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden. High speed wireless internet is also included.

Beautiful Cottage Seeks Ideal Guest: Comfortable, artfully designed, hand crafted yurt nestled into vibrant garden seeks visitors for memorable stay. If you like nature, hiking and gorge walks, if you are tired of cookie cutter hotel rooms or antique stuffed B & B's, if you want something unique and delightful let's get together for one night or many weeks! Hey, I know I'm just a 'luxury apartment in the round' but who says places can't have personality! Please write my caretaker and come visit me!

Talk About Kid Friendly!: Climbing Vine Cottage began as a playground and school for young gardeners. Small hands helped grow fruits, vegetables and flowers for their families and our local soup kitchen Loaves and Fishes. Children have raised butterflies, caught frogs and identified bugs. The yurt was our classroom. In the garden you'll find the cedar tool shed neatly organized with high quality child-sized tools and children's gardening books. In the yurt children will be delighted to sit at the child's table for 4 and use the beading, drawing, collage and clay materials we always keep in stock. There's a play kitchen, tea set and apron, plus baskets with legos and a train set and a well-stocked children's book shelf. Additionally you'll find kid-friendly-adaptive-devices like a step stool, potty seat, and low bench.

For adults without kids don't worry, when we know you're coming we place these materials out of the way, on shelves, etc.

Perfect for a Romantic Getaway: Climbing Vine Cottage makes it easy to find the time for each other. Cook together in a beautiful kitchen or get take out. Cozy up by the fire or climb in bed and watch a DVD. Better yet, climb up to the loft to watch the stars. Explore the forest and gorge in privacy surrounded by peace and beauty.

About Michelle Menter

I grew up on this land hiking the gorge, playing in waterfalls and riding horses in the pasture. After traveling throughout Europe, the Middle East and India and living in San Francisco I came back home to build a house here so my children could also experience the beauty of living close to nature. Family members helped to build the yurt which originally served as the school house for my children's gardening program. My dad and I are avid gardeners and orchardists. It's our pleasure to offer warm hospitality to travelers seeking a unique yurt experience!

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We're so glad we choose to stay at Climbing Vine Cottage! The warmth of the fire, the sound of the rain on the roof and the gentle quietness of the land added to our rest and relaxation. We will definitely be back in winter! And spring! And summer!

Pleasant Tranquil Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed our stay very much, it gave us a chance to have some quiet time for ourselves after being at our son's place with our two active grandsons all day, who also loved it and looked forward to going there. The play area for children was excellent. The Yurt is very comfortable, well laid out with many amenities and the pellet stove kept us nice and warm. We're sorry we didn't have more time to further explore the property. Thanks Michelle and family for being so friendly and helpful.

Looking forward to our next stay, Gail and Harry Koba

Totally worth checking out a really cool way of living

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed on the coldest night of the year. It went as low as -36 degrees that first night. It was cold but for being in a yurt, they did a great job at insulating it and the pellet stove, although we had to fill it more often than they said, is totally understandable because we had it running on full capacity. I would just suggest bringing some warm slippers because the floor was a bit chilly. (If you go in the winter) The property was beautiful even for being So cold and snowy. We saw a nice sunrise looking out the back door. Inside it was very clean. The kitchen is fully functioning with a stove and toaster oven and full fridge. (No microwave) also very clean and tidy. The bathroom had a full standing shower that was larger than I thought it would be too. The beds were very comfortable!! And I was 34 weeks pregnant and can still say it was a comfy bed!! It was also quite kid friendly which I thought to be an added bonus since we brought out 2 year old son. She has a little table and books and toys all set up. The only negative I can say is the bathroom door didn't stay shut because it was missing the little metal piece that helps latch. But that's a super easy fix and shouldn't be a problem. We only cared in the first place because we had cousins visit while we stayed there and wanted privacy. Overall, I can't wait to hopefully go back in the spring or summer when it's not so cold and enjoy this little (but very roomy) yurt when it's in full bloom!!

Thanks for the heads up about the latch at the bathroom--yes it was a super easy fix and it's fixed! Best wishes to you and your family!! Michelle

I spent 11 days here with my daughter. It was wonderful, cozy and very spacious.

This was a great stay for us , peaceful, thoughtfully equipped and very cozy. We are used to yurts being from Vancouver Island in British Columbia but had never stayed in one in the cold weather. Our hosts were so friendly and lived on the property. I would recommend this to anyone.

Great little "yurt away from home"!

  • 5 of 5

Thanks to Michelle for a wonderfully unique place to stay. Spent a long weekend in Ithaca and we were really happy to have Michelle's yurt to come home to while we visited. Beautiful property. Would love to visit again in the summer to see the gardens surrounding the property and take part in some fresh veggies. The yurt was so much more than expected...think I might want one! It was a warm December weekend, but the pellet stove still ran each evening and provided a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere. Loved the bright colors and the casual decorum. Our dog Max also loved the yurt. He's usually a little anxious and nosy the first night when we're away from home, no matter where we go, but he found his spot next to us on the futon and just melted into it. Next time hopefully he'll get some play time with Michelle's family dog. This will definitely be on our list of go to places when visiting the area. Definitely plan to recommend it to some friends of ours who I know would absolutely love it.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind words! It's truly my pleasure to host travelers and I am thrilled to you know you'll be back...now you'll just have to decide when! Wanna come in the spring to hear the peepers in the forest and the toads mating in the pond? Or around Father's Day to see the roses in all their fragrant splendor? Or maybe come to pick rie peaches, plums or apples??!!! No matter when you come back there will be something beautiful happening in the garden, orchard or forest...and we'll be happy to see you again! :)
