Climbing Vine Cottage is a custom-designed yurt nestled in an organic vegetable and perennial flower garden near our home. The yurt features a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen (includes chocolate and award winning, locally roasted coffee) with seating for 6. The bathroom is stocked with towels, local soap, shampoo, etc. Sleeping accommodations include a lovely master bedroom (full size bed) with flat screen tv for dvds, fold out futon bed in the living room (full size) and two twin beds in the loft. In the winter months the yurt stays cozy with a thermostat-controlled wood pellet stove (pellets are provided). The stone patio offers outdoor dining, a gas grill and fire pit. The wildflower field, only steps away, connects to a nature preserve and Van Buskirk Gorge with many waterfalls. Guests are welcome to harvest berries, fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden. High speed wireless internet is also included.
Beautiful Cottage Seeks Ideal Guest: Comfortable, artfully designed, hand crafted yurt nestled into vibrant garden seeks visitors for memorable stay. If you like nature, hiking and gorge walks, if you are tired of cookie cutter hotel rooms or antique stuffed B & B's, if you want something unique and delightful let's get together for one night or many weeks! Hey, I know I'm just a 'luxury apartment in the round' but who says places can't have personality! Please write my caretaker and come visit me!
Talk About Kid Friendly!: Climbing Vine Cottage began as a playground and school for young gardeners. Small hands helped grow fruits, vegetables and flowers for their families and our local soup kitchen Loaves and Fishes. Children have raised butterflies, caught frogs and identified bugs. The yurt was our classroom. In the garden you'll find the cedar tool shed neatly organized with high quality child-sized tools and children's gardening books. In the yurt children will be delighted to sit at the child's table for 4 and use the beading, drawing, collage and clay materials we always keep in stock. There's a play kitchen, tea set and apron, plus baskets with legos and a train set and a well-stocked children's book shelf. Additionally you'll find kid-friendly-adaptive-devices like a step stool, potty seat, and low bench.
For adults without kids don't worry, when we know you're coming we place these materials out of the way, on shelves, etc.
Perfect for a Romantic Getaway: Climbing Vine Cottage makes it easy to find the time for each other. Cook together in a beautiful kitchen or get take out. Cozy up by the fire or climb in bed and watch a DVD. Better yet, climb up to the loft to watch the stars. Explore the forest and gorge in privacy surrounded by peace and beauty.
I grew up on this land hiking the gorge, playing in waterfalls and riding horses in the pasture. After traveling throughout Europe, the Middle East and India and living in San Francisco I came back home to build a house here so my children could also experience the beauty of living close to nature. Family members helped to build the yurt which originally served as the school house for my children's gardening program. My dad and I are avid gardeners and orchardists. It's our pleasure to offer warm hospitality to travelers seeking a unique yurt experience!

We're so glad we choose to stay at Climbing Vine Cottage! The warmth of the fire, the sound of the rain on the roof and the gentle quietness of the land added to our rest and relaxation. We will definitely be back in winter! And spring! And summer!
Michelle, the owner, was very friendly and helpful with suggestions and information. She let us pick fresh vegetables from the garden and feed the fish in the pond. The yurt was warm, clean and cozy. Easy to get to Ithaca and the surrounding sights. However, you may want to bring a sleep mask as the sun shines through if you are in the loft! At night it is very dark outside so you may want to bring a flashlight. We would recommend and go again!
Our family of five stayed over the holiday weekend and were pleasantly surprised by the space, coziness, and well equipped yurt. Ithaca is a beautiful area. The only negative was that we were unable to explore the woods on site due to hunters.
My SO and I stayed in the yurt for Thanksgiving this year. It was a much needed respite from the busyness of our lives in the city. The place was very clean and cozier than I could have imagined. We enjoyed our time here a lot and would love to come back in the summer when everything is green!
We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful setting. First weekend in November and still plenty of fall colors. Michelle and family very welcoming. Great place for kids with toys and games provided plus safe exploring space right outside your door. Much bigger than expected. Plenty of space for our little kids to run around inside. Great spot for exploring Ithaca and of course all the great parks around.
If you don't have a reason to go to the Ithaca region, make one up, just for the pleasure of staying in this beautiful Yurt. Easy hiking in the woods nearby, a beautiful setting, a cozy yurt that definitely surpasses "glamping" -- WiFi, full kitchen, many comfy sleeping arrangements to choose from (we chose the futon in front of the pellet stove because it was so cozy and romantic).
Michelle has thought of every detail to make your stay wonderful. We were in town to attend a wedding and were so happy that we were not staying in the characterless hotel in the mall like everyone else. We turned a wedding weekend into a romantic adventure for ourselves. I only wish we'd had more time to hang out at the yurt and enjoy it.
Climbing Vine Cottage is only 12 minutes south of Ithaca but you can do and see a lot before you even get into your car. Explore the wild flower field or play ball on the game and party field. Walk a trail through the forest or hike down to the gorge to see ice carved waterfalls. You don't have to go far to experience the wonder of the Finger Lakes Region. Up the road you'll find great fruit picking and cider doughnuts at Little Tree Orchards or go two miles further and drive through Newfield's Historic Covered Bridge.
Climbing Vine Cottage is the perfect spring board for day trips to the Grassroots Festival and the Ithaca Festival, the Wine Trail, our award winning Ithaca Farmer's Market, great hiking and biking, the beautiful Cayuga Lake, the Sciencenter, world famous gorges and waterfalls, Greek Peak, great dining, the Ithaca Commons and international events sponsored by Cornell and Ithaca College. Experience what makes our region unique!
