Enjoy Munich as a local in this newly renovated two room apartment in the center of town. The building dates from the mid 1800's and the ammenities from 2016. With 82 square meters (almost 900 square feet) you will have plenty of room to work or relax. The apartment is on the ground floor and, in addition to being very secure, is easily accessable for any traveller. The location is very close to SENDLINGER TOR, a major public transportation hub with the intersection of 4 subway lines, 4 tram lines and a bus line. You can easily get to anywhere in the city from Sendlinger Tor. Marienplatz is only a short stroll away. Inspite of being in the center of town, the apartment is very quiet and is always enjoyed by guests of any age. Families, retirees, business travellers, opera singers, actors and explorers of all kinds have been our guests over the years.
The bathroom was completely remodeled in 2016 and includes a large walk-in shower, floor heating, custom cabinets and a clothes washer/dryer combo. The kitchen includes a large refridgerator, dish washer, plenty of cooking utensils as well as pots-and-pans of all sizes. The apartment is ideal for longer stays or shorter get-away trips.
A brand new, Italian-made sleeper sofa with an extra sized mattress for comfort is found in the living room along with a lovely new dining table and chairs. The living area has tasteful lighting which may be dimmed to suit any mood.
The bedroom has a brand new 180cm x 200cm mattress and bed along with top quality bedding from Zoeppritz, Europe's oldest fabric weaving company (1828). You will have plenty of closet space along with a comfortable work desk and high-speed WLAN connectivity and, of course, a flatscreen television. Draw the lovely JAB Anstoetz drapes for privacy at any time and enjoy your home-away-from-home in Munich.
Your hosts are a German-American couple who have been welcoming guests for over 10 years. We love Munich so much that it is only natural to want to share this fantastic city. Our own home is only a few blocks away from this apartment.
Patt Howard purchased this apartment in 2005
When you combine the perfect location with attention to detail, you have a wonderful space in which even the most picky of travellers feels welcome and at home. The Glockenbachviertel was the first neighborhood to be built outside of the city's original wall. The neighborhood has an eclectic mix of young couples, retirees, nuns, artists, designers and families. Restaurants, coffee shops, independent stores, grocery stores, ice cream parlors, chemists/drug stores and cinemas are all at your doorstep. You will love this neighborhood.
Janet and I spent two enjoyable weeks during Oktoberfest in this newly-renovated apartment. The location in city center made it easy to enjoy all the festivities. Our massive bedroom with king-sized bed was just perfect. The rain shower added an extra treat.. Complimentary wine on arrival was another touch.
Breakfast was only a few steps from our ground-level location. A convenient market for shopping took only a few minutes.
The neighborhood is clean and safe for an evening stroll. Use local tram and subway just minutes away from the apartment. We would highly recommend this quiet apartment, if you want to be at the center of activities.

Everything was perfect and the owners were wonderful to work with. Great for couples and people wanting to stay more like a local instead of in a hotel. We would stay here again!
My fiancé and I had a wonderful time in the apartment! It was very clean, comfortable and wonderfully located. The area had many great affordable restaurants, pharmacy and a grocery store with in a couple blocks! The apartment had plenty of hot water and always felt very safe. Patt was very helpful and quick to answer any questions. The washer and dryer also worked fantastically. Overall it was a great trip!
My family (dad, mom, 3- and 1- year old daughters plus the dog) stayed in this apartment for a week in August 2016. Right from the time of booking, Patt was very helpful, making suggestions about transport and asking about a baby bed for our little one. When we arrived in Munich he met us at the door and gave us a tour of the apartment and all the great features. This was in addition to the detailed packet of instructions about the dishwasher, clothes washing machine, etc. Patt made living in the apartment and the neighborhood very easy, and you can tell he has made an effort to think of everything a guest might need, right down to the Nespresso machine.
The apartment is just as clean, beautiful, and large as the photos lead you to believe. The bedroom could easily be two rooms (or three in a typical European apartment!). My daughters entertained themselves running/crawling around this huge space, which also included a very clever wardrobe big enough to hold all of our clothes. The bathroom is lovely and includes a large, doorless shower and rain shower head. It was a treat to take a shower there. The kitchen has very nice appliances, cookware, and dishes included, and it looks onto the living area. This is ideal for us as Dad can cook for the family while they hang out and keep me company. I already miss the kitchen and bath and wish they were in my house!
We had a car but did not need it at all to visit Munich, thanks to the great location of the apartment and Munich's transport system. It is an easy walk past the Sendlinger Tor to the Marienplatz to see the Glockenspiel, to shop, and eat at the Hofbrauhaus or visit the market. Sendlinger Tor is also a major transport hub, so we just hopped on the underground to visit the English garden for swimming, playing, and beers in the beergarden at the Chinese Tower. The immediate vicinity of the apartment seems to be a hot spot for young professionals, so there many, many options for eating and drinking within two blocks of the apartment. For early risers there is a coffee shop with great pastries right in the same block. Even though the area is very lively in the evening, the apartment itself stays quiet enough to put two kids to sleep at 10:00pm if, like us, you have to do that. Patt also pointed out that there is a nice walking path just down the street that will take you to some great play spaces for kids.
Many thanks to Patt for a great stay!
After a last minute choice to travel to Munich for a conference, we were happy to find Patt's place on VRBO. Patt's hospitality continued throughout the visit, as he helped us with suggestions for airport transfer and some awesome local food. The apartment itself was one of the best I have stayed in on either VRBO or AirBNB. It was clean, had a very large master bedroom, and the renovated bathroom was super nice! Not to mention the complimentary beers that were waiting for us in the refrigerator. :)
I had never been to this area of Munich, but I have to say it may be my favorite now! There were nice cozy restaurants, bars, and coffee shops around every corner, that were always busy with locals.
Overall, I'd 100% recommend this, and hope to stay there again sometime soon.
Thanks Patt & Michael!
Location and sights: Could not have asked for a better location: half the Munich subways stop 5 min from the apt. But best is to stroll to the heart of the old city on foot on Sendlinger Strasse. You can do the BMW pilgrimage or the major museums without changing trains if no interest in walking. The English Gardens and the Isar River (it was too cold for the best view) are also in your cable tow. Behind the apartment is Munich's Old cemetery, an interesting stroll through the past. From the apartment to Garmish is 1 1/2 hour total by train including to the Hauptbahnhof if you know your Gleis and have your ticket! Add 10 min if you do not!
Commuting: I commuted to work in the suburb by train with no difficulties with an economical weekly ticket.
Eateries and bakeries....they are many within 10 seconds to 2 min walk and you see locals hanging out in droves on the weekends. Also discovered the Boston Market type carry-out (for USA tourists' reference) BUT MUCH MUCH BETTER: Vincenze Murr, about half-way to Marienplatz on Sendlinger Strasse: pass under the large Arch of the Sendlinger Gate (varos kapu) and look on your left in about 100 meters/yards. Also stop at Hans im Gluck behind Marienplatz, next to McDonald for good hamburgers. Nearby grocery store is Tangelman where local Munich beer may be found (Aldi's and Lidl do not carry Munich beer but Rewe also does :-)
Renovation: we took some bathroom design ideas away for our own construction.
Friendliness: the chilled wine and beer waiting for us went a long way to help unwind after the long journey. We did not have any additional needs but I am sure they would have been full filled by the friendly owners.
Would go back and send my friends.
Other Activities: shopping, hot air ballooning, spa
