Enjoy Munich as a local in this newly renovated two room apartment in the center of town. The building dates from the mid 1800's and the ammenities from 2016. With 82 square meters (almost 900 square feet) you will have plenty of room to work or relax. The apartment is on the ground floor and, in addition to being very secure, is easily accessable for any traveller. The location is very close to SENDLINGER TOR, a major public transportation hub with the intersection of 4 subway lines, 4 tram lines and a bus line. You can easily get to anywhere in the city from Sendlinger Tor. Marienplatz is only a short stroll away. Inspite of being in the center of town, the apartment is very quiet and is always enjoyed by guests of any age. Families, retirees, business travellers, opera singers, actors and explorers of all kinds have been our guests over the years.
The bathroom was completely remodeled in 2016 and includes a large walk-in shower, floor heating, custom cabinets and a clothes washer/dryer combo. The kitchen includes a large refridgerator, dish washer, plenty of cooking utensils as well as pots-and-pans of all sizes. The apartment is ideal for longer stays or shorter get-away trips.
A brand new, Italian-made sleeper sofa with an extra sized mattress for comfort is found in the living room along with a lovely new dining table and chairs. The living area has tasteful lighting which may be dimmed to suit any mood.
The bedroom has a brand new 180cm x 200cm mattress and bed along with top quality bedding from Zoeppritz, Europe's oldest fabric weaving company (1828). You will have plenty of closet space along with a comfortable work desk and high-speed WLAN connectivity and, of course, a flatscreen television. Draw the lovely JAB Anstoetz drapes for privacy at any time and enjoy your home-away-from-home in Munich.
Your hosts are a German-American couple who have been welcoming guests for over 10 years. We love Munich so much that it is only natural to want to share this fantastic city. Our own home is only a few blocks away from this apartment.
Patt Howard purchased this apartment in 2005
When you combine the perfect location with attention to detail, you have a wonderful space in which even the most picky of travellers feels welcome and at home. The Glockenbachviertel was the first neighborhood to be built outside of the city's original wall. The neighborhood has an eclectic mix of young couples, retirees, nuns, artists, designers and families. Restaurants, coffee shops, independent stores, grocery stores, ice cream parlors, chemists/drug stores and cinemas are all at your doorstep. You will love this neighborhood.
Location and sights: Could not have asked for a better location: half the Munich subways stop 5 min from the apt. But best is to stroll to the heart of the old city on foot on Sendlinger Strasse. You can do the BMW pilgrimage or the major museums without changing trains if no interest in walking. The English Gardens and the Isar River (it was too cold for the best view) are also in your cable tow. Behind the apartment is Munich's Old cemetery, an interesting stroll through the past. From the apartment to Garmish is 1 1/2 hour total by train including to the Hauptbahnhof if you know your Gleis and have your ticket! Add 10 min if you do not!
Commuting: I commuted to work in the suburb by train with no difficulties with an economical weekly ticket.
Eateries and bakeries....they are many within 10 seconds to 2 min walk and you see locals hanging out in droves on the weekends. Also discovered the Boston Market type carry-out (for USA tourists' reference) BUT MUCH MUCH BETTER: Vincenze Murr, about half-way to Marienplatz on Sendlinger Strasse: pass under the large Arch of the Sendlinger Gate (varos kapu) and look on your left in about 100 meters/yards. Also stop at Hans im Gluck behind Marienplatz, next to McDonald for good hamburgers. Nearby grocery store is Tangelman where local Munich beer may be found (Aldi's and Lidl do not carry Munich beer but Rewe also does :-)
Renovation: we took some bathroom design ideas away for our own construction.
Friendliness: the chilled wine and beer waiting for us went a long way to help unwind after the long journey. We did not have any additional needs but I am sure they would have been full filled by the friendly owners.
Would go back and send my friends.
First, the positive. This apartment is nicely located just a 15 minute walk from all the major attractions. And there is also a much closer U-bahn stop to get to places further afield or if you don't want to walk. We were greeted by Anton, who took the time to show us how everything worked, as well as some tips for sightseeing. The place had also been cleaned before our arrival.
However, there are some things that really need updating. The upholstery and throw rugs are just plain dirty. We didn't really even want to sit on the sofa in the living area. In addition, the place is very messy, with literally every surface covered with stuff like piles of public bathroom type paper towels and old rags. And the towels are virtually unusable - more like sand paper than cotton. This place has some potential but just needs a really good sprucing up!
My travel group of 4 adults booked this city center apartment for 5 days and were thrilled with the results. The owners were great at communication in the months leading up to our trip and even during it. The apartment itself is spacious and full of character. We had plenty of great meals sitting around the large living area and just taking it in. The location was perfect for us: it was a pleasant 15 minute stroll to everything we wanted to see (Marienplatz, the Isar River, Viktualienmarkt, etc.), but it's not right in the middle of a crowded tourist area, either. The street by our apartment was quiet and safe, with many food and drink options in a relaxing setting. I have nothing but positive things to say about how we were treated by the owners and apartment itself. Staying here was our best decision in Munich.
Wow, this location is great. It's a leisurely 15 min walk to the center of the city or just a couple of blocks to the metro station. Everything is so close and convenient.
What I think we really appreciated were some of the comforts of home while being on vacation. The grocery store is only 3 minutes away so we could stock up on breakfast foods. We were able to have a nice breakfast, sipping coffee without having to go look for a restaurant.
One of the best features of this apartment is it has a washing machine. We each only brought 1/2 of the clothes needed and washed mid-week. It made packing so much easier! There's no dryer however Anton showed us how to use the drying rack. That worked out just fine with even the jeans drying.
Anton and Patt met us at the apartment and showed us everything we needed. It was pretty straightforward. Patt emailed us information ahead of time to prepare us, like taking the Lufthansa bus from the airport.
Lastly, this apartment is really big. The pictures don't really reflect that. You'll have plenty of space.
The only opportunity may be the shower a bit small.
Book this unit straight away, the calendar seems to fill up fast for this one.
Simplemente ¡¡¡ PERFECTO¡¡¡
WOW, the reviews are 100% accurate. The location could not be better, with a one stop train trip to the Munich Central Station in one direction, and one stop to the Marienplatz in the other. The neighborhood itself is fantastic with several bakeries, grocery stores, bars and tons of dining options (German, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, etc...). Oh yeah, the coffee shop next door is fantastic.
One more note on the owner, Patt. We are a family of four with two teenage girls. My 14 year old got swollen glands and was feeling terrible one morning. I e-mailed Patt to see what our options were for going to a quick clinic. His response was, "I'll be right there." Within minutes Patt was on the phone with an English speaking doctor, who was at the apartment within the hour. As Patt said, "Doctors here come to you". We were able to get our medicine at the pharmacy down the street. UNVELIEVABLE!!!
If I had 2-4 people looking to stay in the Old City of Munich, this would be my #1 recommendation.
Other Activities: shopping, hot air ballooning, spa
