Dana purchased this estate in 2012
We travel to a new destination every Christmas and this vacation truly was one of the best experiences of my life, Thank you Joe and Dana for your hospitality. The house had everything we needed. plenty of space for everyone and our beds were very very comfortable and clean. the pool was super clean the sound system was great, the location was close to everything. I can't think of anything to complain about.
We were 17 members of a family. The sleeping accommodations were good to excellent. The kitchen and furnishings were adequate. The pool, living areas and other facilities were great. Everyone had a good time enjoying the house and the wonderful environment offered by Kona and the Big Island.
Our family really enjoyed our time together at the Kona Plantation Estate. We loved the house, it was really perfect for the 14 of us staying there. Dana and Joe were very responsive to our needs and made our stay there very comfortable. We loved the pool, although cool it was really refreshing. It was lovely to come home and be able to watch the beautiful sunsets from our lanai, cook our dinner in the very well stocked kitchen and then enjoy our dinners together. Good layout of the house, some really nice decor, most of us were very comfortable although some of the beds could use a bit of an update. Overall our stay was wonderful and if coming back to the Big Island with family would look into renting this house again. Thank you Joe and Dana for helping to make this a very memorable family vacation.
The house worked perfectly for my friends and family's stay for the ironman race. We had 11 adults, and the 6 separate rooms/living spaces each with its own bathroom was so convenient. The house was higher in elevation and at least 5-8 degrees cooler than down in Kailua Kona town center - and even if we were used to air conditioned houses, we felt the breeze and it was quite pleasant. One room was not getting as much of the cross breeze and so I asked Joe if he had an extra floor fan - he brought one over that day and it made a huge difference.
The common areas were so comfortable and spacious - we had so many options to choose from when just hanging at the house - we could gather all together on the dining table for meals, and also just do our own thing...some at the pool, some on the lanai, some in the kitchen or TV room...really great setup.
We had a couple dinners where we invited other friends over that were staying elsewhere - had up to 16 adults and grilled. With the large inside dining table and the outside dining table, there was more than enough room.
There were a lot of gnats and cockroaches - and I'm originally from Oahu so kind of expected it...but was more than I've seen before. Seemed to come and go - almost as if we stirred them up on arrival and then they stayed hidden once we settled in.
The kitchen was well stocked - we had to cook for large groups so plenty of cookware and plates, cups, glasses.
Joe was very responsive and helpful when I had questions or couldn't find things we needed. We also appreciated that on our checkout day, he let us keep all of our luggage in the house and let us take beach towels for the day since our flight left late that night. We came back that afternoon and the cleaning lady let us use the pool shower to wash off before we had to leave for the airport. Was so nice not being all sandy and sweaty on our long flight back to the east coast!
If we have this size party for our next ironman trip, I would definitely try to book here again!
We just returned from a Hawaii trip with the extended family. There were 12 of us altogether. We spent half our time on Oahu and half on Hawaii. Joe and Dana are the owners of this lovely home. It was large enough to accommodate us comfortably. There are 3 bedrooms in the main house, one of the rooms with a secret sliding bookshelf door. Each of the rooms have its own bathroom with shower or tub. There is a swimming pool which you have exclusive use of. There is a pool house which also has a bedroom, living room, bath and a small kitchenette.
Two of the bedrooms are built into the 3 stall garage. The rooms have separate entrances and each also has bathroom/shower. So there is privacy with each room.
There is a large patio with outdoor table and chairs and there is a large dining table inside the main house also.
I would have been happy just lounging around this house enjoying the view and the pool. However there are many beaches and water activities accessible within short driving distance from the home. (we went snorkeling with the dolphins, night snorkeling with manta rays, shopping/eating at the Kona Inn Shopping Mall nearby). Grocery store is also a short drive away. Distance to the airport is about 15 min. There is a Costco nearby also. Volcano and Hilo are on the other side of the island, about 2+ hour drive there.
Joe and Dana live nearby and are very responsive if you need anything. They have for your use some snorkels, boogie boards, pool toys, booster seats if you need to use them. There is cable if you have time to watch television and a pretty large collection of movies on DVD in the living room.
Only downside is that the wildlife (birds, especially wild chicken which seem to roam on Hawaii and Kauai) like to wake you up early with their noise.
No air conditioning and we were there in the height of the summer. Ceiling fans in every room help or jump in the pool to cool down.
I recommend this house and would stay there again if visiting Kona with a larger group.
This Home was absolutely ravishing, private, very accommodating for comfort and the beds were amazingly comfortable! Very Spacious!!
The property is very well maintained and the pool nice and clean as well. All the sheets were clean and fresh too.
The Owners, Joe & Dana provided us with an abundance of Island knowhow & ideas for fun & food.
The kitchen was great to cook in and lots of space too.
The hiking around the beautiful neighborhoods was a treat too.
I would highly recommend this to everyone who has a large group or family or friends.
We were serenaded every night with all the wonderful birds, such a peaceful sound to sleep by.
We stayed for 6 nights and did everything we could.
The Luau at the Royal Kona Hotel was the Absolute best of Food and Entertainment. The Volcano hiking was great and the Volcano Restaurant was Excellent.
The Snorkeling was the absolute superb at all the beaches. All the restaurants were amazing.
You have to stay at this place to experience the best ever!
