Joe and Dana Kern own the property and live nearby. We are here to make sure your vacation goes smoothly and to make sure you have nothing to worry about.
Dana purchased this estate in 2012
We just returned from a Hawaii trip with the extended family. There were 12 of us altogether. We spent half our time on Oahu and half on Hawaii. Joe and Dana are the owners of this lovely home. It was large enough to accommodate us comfortably. There are 3 bedrooms in the main house, one of the rooms with a secret sliding bookshelf door. Each of the rooms have its own bathroom with shower or tub. There is a swimming pool which you have exclusive use of. There is a pool house which also has a bedroom, living room, bath and a small kitchenette.
Two of the bedrooms are built into the 3 stall garage. The rooms have separate entrances and each also has bathroom/shower. So there is privacy with each room.
There is a large patio with outdoor table and chairs and there is a large dining table inside the main house also.
I would have been happy just lounging around this house enjoying the view and the pool. However there are many beaches and water activities accessible within short driving distance from the home. (we went snorkeling with the dolphins, night snorkeling with manta rays, shopping/eating at the Kona Inn Shopping Mall nearby). Grocery store is also a short drive away. Distance to the airport is about 15 min. There is a Costco nearby also. Volcano and Hilo are on the other side of the island, about 2+ hour drive there.
Joe and Dana live nearby and are very responsive if you need anything. They have for your use some snorkels, boogie boards, pool toys, booster seats if you need to use them. There is cable if you have time to watch television and a pretty large collection of movies on DVD in the living room.
Only downside is that the wildlife (birds, especially wild chicken which seem to roam on Hawaii and Kauai) like to wake you up early with their noise.
No air conditioning and we were there in the height of the summer. Ceiling fans in every room help or jump in the pool to cool down.
I recommend this house and would stay there again if visiting Kona with a larger group.
This Home was absolutely ravishing, private, very accommodating for comfort and the beds were amazingly comfortable! Very Spacious!!
The property is very well maintained and the pool nice and clean as well. All the sheets were clean and fresh too.
The Owners, Joe & Dana provided us with an abundance of Island knowhow & ideas for fun & food.
The kitchen was great to cook in and lots of space too.
The hiking around the beautiful neighborhoods was a treat too.
I would highly recommend this to everyone who has a large group or family or friends.
We were serenaded every night with all the wonderful birds, such a peaceful sound to sleep by.
We stayed for 6 nights and did everything we could.
The Luau at the Royal Kona Hotel was the Absolute best of Food and Entertainment. The Volcano hiking was great and the Volcano Restaurant was Excellent.
The Snorkeling was the absolute superb at all the beaches. All the restaurants were amazing.
You have to stay at this place to experience the best ever!
We stayed in the Villa with 2 different Groups of each 13 - 14 Adults, for each 10 nights in April and May 2014.
The loving Villa was for us perfect in any ways, we all loved!
Mahalo to the owner, they are very helpful!
We`ll come back in September 2015, jupiii.................
We stayed here for 7 days and it was awesome. The house is gorgeous, has an excellent kitchen and was perfect for our group of 12 adults. The rooms were great and we loved the pool. Joe was exceptionally nice and very friendly. We had everything we needed, and more. Towels, beach chairs and mats, pool toys, everything! We would absolutely go back!
This house is over the top, out of a magazine gorgeous, & you get to live there! It was just perfect for our 3 generation group of 10. Plenty of room to sleep couples & kids in the big house, quiet retreats for grandparents in the pool cabana & garden apartment, each with private TV & kitchenette. A large entertainment center in the big house is stocked with dvds & games, wifi (that was at times spotty.) Great sound system. Lots of space for group interaction & comfortable places for quiet moments to recharge & plan the next outing or drive around the island. Every kitchen gadget you'll need to cook meals, party & feel at home. Some basic ingredients in the cupboard, so check before you go shopping. The house was spotless when we got there & we found it easy to clean & maintain during our stay. 2 washers & dryers, so everyone can pack lightly & wash clothes as needed. Lovely view of the ocean, welcome cooling breezes on this hillside location above the muggier downtown beach area. The pool is fantastic fun for the kids & a refreshing dip after returning from an outing. Plenty of pool toys plus boogie boards, beach towels, toy buckets & ice chests for the beach. Kaloko-Honokohau Natl. Historical Park & Kahalu'u Snorkel Beach were our local favorites, get there early for limited parking. Favorite food finds: Kona Brewing Co. (get reservations), Kanaka Kava in Coconut Grove Marketplace off Ali''i Dr. (pulled pork!) & Bite Me at the Honokohau Harbor. If the nighttime birds bother your sleep, close some of the windows & let the fans muffle the sound. Don't be surprised if you hear an evening choir rehearsal from a nearby church. We used the sliding screen doors along the open wall of the great room for added toddler pool safety as well as keeping insects out. There is a storage closet with collapsible cribs, highchair & much more. Ask the owners, if you think you'll need something. They are wonderful & live right next door. We had such a marvelous time & will cherish this adventure always.
Our family of 12 (6 couples) stayed at this house for a week long vacation on the Big Island. This house worked out perfectly for our group. Each couple had their own room and bathroom and we really enjoyed the open living area and beautiful lanai/pool area. The way the screens fully open onto the lanai is wonderful. We were able to see some great sunsets and breakfast by the pool with views of the Ocean was very peaceful. Everyone really enjoyed taking a dip in the pool when we were at the house. The house has two washer and dryer sets which really comes in handy too. The owners of this property are very nice and helpful. The house is close to town but at a higher elevation so not as hot as the coast. You will need a car to get around but it was very easy and centrall to everything we wanted to do. While we were there we did a dolphin swim with Sunlight on Water that we really enjoyed, the Royal Kona resort Luau and a tour with Hawaii Forest and Trail to Volcano National Part and the Summit of Mauna Kea for sunset and stargazing. We recommend all of them!
