You will absolutely love staying here! No matter what time of the year, this 1000 sq ft secluded cabin is perfect!
Completely remodeled in 2008, both the inside and out are new and updated. The huge master bedroom(21x11) has a king size select comfort adjustable bed. The 2nd large bedroom has both a queen bed and a bunkbed set up. The kitchen has all brand new appliances and is connected to the great room and dining area with very high vaulted ceilings.
Through the sliding doors, there is a large deck attached overlooking the lake with a gorgeous view of the island straight out. The 1 acre property has 286 feet of lake frontage and is on a dead end street. Privacy is an understatement, yet heading into town takes a minute or two unless you have to pause for deer or other wildlife.
Chain Lake is a perfect 76.3 acre lake with a maximum depth of 42 feet making it ideal for fishing, boating, swimming, and jet-skiing. All ages can catch panfish right off the dock all day if they would like. With all the different species of fish the Northwoods has to offer, Chain Lake allows fishermen to access the calm waters both during the day and afternoon because boating hours end when fishing is just right but there is also a large section of the lake with crystal clear water that remains tranquil all day just for those to fish. The boat landing is just down the road and easy to access.
There are two fire pits and plenty of wood provided. A row boat w/ oars and life jackets. The McCauslin Brook Golf Course is a few minutes away as well.
Available year round this four seasons cabin is also great for winter activities with cross country ski trails and hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails with great stops along the way. Public hunting land throughout the Nicolet National Forest is also very close by.
Linens provided. The cabin will be professionally cleaned after your departure, but please take care of it as you would your own. Responsible tenants only, please!
For more information and additional photos of the property please feel free to email me.

I love to fish and enjoy all wild life. I manage rental properties and help my family with a couple local sandwich shops. I like to stay in shape and play sports. I am a christian. I love to watch football and am a huge Green Bay Packer fan. I do not rent my cabin out to Vikings fans. Just kidding :) I love people, sports, nature, and God. I guess that just about sums me up.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006
I grew up vacationing in Lakewood and I loved every second of it. My best friend's parents had a cottage on Wheeler lake in Lakewood, and some of my best memories are there. He now has his own cabin on Wheeler lake. My father and I also headed up to Lakewood when we had the chance and enjoyed all it has to offer. I bought my cabin on Chain Lake because I love location of the heart shaped lake and the waterfront view. It is so close to town yet it is still so secluded. One of very few. There is so much to do in such a small area. I love it!
The unique benefits about staying at my cabin would start with the lake. Chain lake is heart shaped, one side is full recreation for boating, jet skiing ect... the other side, which is where my cabin resides, is a no wake zone. It leaves the water crystal clear making it ideal for fishing, canoeing, swimming, and relaxation. The cabin is a few minutes away from town yet its on the end of a secluded dead end road. There will be no one around. With the seclusion comes the wild life. directly behind my cottage, opposite from the water, is where the black bears, deer, and many other animals come down from the hills to get food and water. It's an amazing sight.
It was a Tidy place, but cleanliness was an issue. We are by no means "clean freaks", but the dishes were dirty, shower was bad enough that my wife had to clean before using, floor and rugs were pretty bad too (white socks turned brown in a hurry). The fridge and freezer smelled like fish.
TV screen not in the best shape- brown streaks across picture.
No dressers! We felt like we never really unpacked or settled in.
We had to mess with the sleep number bed for two nights before it would inflate properly
Two kayaks were advertised but not there- would have brought my own had we known
The local black bear had us on edge, spooked our dog.
Several emails to the owner went unanswered
When we rent a place for vacation, we look for clean, comfy, and convenient as standards for an enjoyable stay. When we travel with our two dogs, we also look for dog-friendly places that don't charge and arm and a leg for two well-behaved, non-destructive pets. The Lakewood cabin was certainly clean, and it included items that we needed for fishing (oars!) that we did not bring with us. It is in a quiet location, surrounded by other vacation homes. The roads around the cottage are great for dog walks, and the location is convenient to the Nicolet National Forest hiking trails. We even discovered a 'Lakewood Auto Tour' book in one of the drawers in the living room. It rained most of our four-day stay, but that didn't matter. We knew there was no cable or internet, and we had rented a similar venue before with great results -- what a fine reason to be able to unwind without being 'connected' to work or ... people. We celebrated our anniversary at nearby Waubee Lodge -- a five-start dining experience that we truly enjoyed. We also found snack, drink, and cook-in meal supplies at the near-by grocery, not more than 1.5 miles down the road on Hwy. 32. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
The property is well maintained. The owner was pleasant and helpful. The cabin is in a convenient location. July was a great time to visit because the mosquitoes were not bad at all. The down side was that Chain Lake is not for swimming but there are many local swimming spots. Also, the fire pits are really overgrown with grass and too buggy for a comfortable campfire. I thought it was good for the price and really appreciated the friendliness of the owner.
My husband and I had such a great trip with our two dogs. The cabin was the perfect size, open living area, great deck with a beautiful view of the lake. So nice to walk down to the private dock for our pups to jump right into the water. We took the row boat out which was fun to explore the lake. We were less than a 10 minute drive to the town with a great grocery store and little restaurants if you want to eat out. Our only minor complaint was the front of the cabin was right on the road. However, that road was a dead end quiet road and all our hanging out was on the back deck and at the lake so it didn't effect us much. Thanks for a great stay!
I have to say the setting on the lake and the solitude of the property was awesome. My problem was how dirty the place was. I always have blankets in our car which I was so thankful when I aw how filthy dirty the sofa was. I put a blanket on the sofa and we never sat in the chairs. The shower, microwave, refrigerator were disgusting. If we had stayed ther any longer than 2 1/2 days, I would have had to clean everything. As it was my husband cleaned the microwave and refrigerator. I just sprayed antiseptic spray on the shower floor. We were hoping to find a place we could rent for a week next summer but this will not be the place.
The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because of location.
My husband and I spent a week in this wonderful cottage at the end of July/beginning of August! So sweet! The ceiling was vaulted and of golden knotty pine. All the furnishings were quality, tasteful and homey. We cooked like crazy in the kitchen, watched movies in the living room, enjoyed the beautiful view on the deck from the recliner chairs that we brought along with us. We also enjoyed the fire pit a couple of times...... the moon was so bright and lit up all the trees around us. We went out in our boat that we brought along numerous times, enjoying the lake that this cottage looks out apon. It was no problem to tie it up onto the dock- easy access for morning fishing expeditions and outings.
A couple of small things that weren't our favorite...... the sleep number bed in the master bedroom did not work properly- the display on the controller was broken. And for those of you who like to fish, we had an extremely tough time doing so on this specific lake, Chain Lake. It was beautiful and on the other side there were lake homes to look at, but the fish were practically nonexistant! When you visit, you will want to remember that garbage drop off is in the village and that there are specific times for dropoff.
We loved our stay and have many happy memories and pictures. We enjoyed our local surroundings and also did the waterfall tour of several counties around Lakewood. We did whitewater rafting on the Peshtigo River and visitied the casino which was only 10 minutes away.
We would definitely LOVE to come back to this place!
Antiquing, Gambling, 8 Miles from Potawatomi Northern Lights Casino, Phone book and Activity book provided listing all the great restaurants and activities nearby.
