About Bob

I am the owner of several rental properties in Seattle, this being my third vacation rental. My wife and I purchase and renovate turn-of-the-century and mid-century homes. This house started as a mid-century two bedroom/one bath home. We took the roof off and added a second story, putting three large bedrooms on the top floor and turning the original first floor into a wide-open living space which is great for relaxing to enjoy the views or having enough room around the kitchen or dining room for a family reunion.

Bob purchased this house in 2007

Why Bob chose Northwest

This Magnolia neighborhood home is located on one of Seattle's seven major hills, surrounded by Puget Sound and tideflats. Magnolia is revered for its suburb-like quiet and safety and close location to downtown ....In other words, a suburb within a city.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Joe,

WOW, what a beautiful experience we had in Seattle. The wedding was great although Seattle did let us know that Mother Nature rules up there and although she gave us rain for the service, she also gave us the most beautiful sunset at Rays boathouse - even the restaurant help had to stop and check it out! Apparently it doesn't happen that often so we were blessed.

The house was spectacular and truly served as a home for our 5 days.

One other thing I might suggest is a guest book. I would have loved to see the comments from people who have stayed there and shared our experience as well. I am sure they are all beautiful affirmations to you and your hard work with the house but most of all the feeling that all who enter get upon arrival. The house is so grounded and offers a peacefulness that was so awesome. I have a sense that we will be visiting again and sharing our experience with others who will be coming your way.

I hope we left everything in order - the only problem was that no one wanted to leave.. How blessed we were to have found you and the Magnolia House..

family gathering place in Seattle for wedding

  • 4 of 5

Situated in a great area of Seattle - Magnolia. We were lucky since this house was only a few blocks from my daughter's. This made things much more convenient as we prepped for a wedding. I received quick response from house manager when experienced difficulty with tv remotes and access to Cable. This was much appreciated. I would suggest that typed directions be left in the house for future use of tv remote controls. Since this was an "Olympic" week on tv, viewing was important to many of the house guests. We appreciated the good view of Mount Rainier from the upstairs bedroom as well as street balcony.

It was great to have a booster seat available for our rental vehicle. The place is well equipped for children of varying ages. It would be a good thought to have some board type games available - maybe Scrabble, or such. There were plenty of DVDs, both children and adult variety, which was good diversion, particularly for the 5 and 7 YO children in the house.

Overall, I was pleased with the house and responsiveness of manager to questions and needs. Please do have someone look at the dishwasher as it is difficulty to move the lower rack to load and unload dishes.

Thanks

Great house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our 3 adult children, their spouses and the grandchildren. The house is clean and beautifully decorated, with lots of space to be together, but plenty of privacy as well. The neighborhood is quiet, with a great market nearby, and just a short ride over the Magnolia bridge to downtown Seattle. The one time we contacted the maintenance person with a question about how something worked in the house, he called us back in under 5 minutes. I would highly recommend this house for any large group.

Amazing family time together!

  • 5 of 5

The home was just as we had hoped it would be according to the pictures. We rented it for our son's wedding in June and it accommodated our family beautifully. We shared lots of leisurely time together around breakfast and enjoyed a couple of dinners in. The location was perfect, the house was perfect, the wedding was perfect! Thank you!

Too many separate spaces for large group to gather together

  • 3 of 5

Home was comfortable and convenient to sites in town. The downstairs area was warm due to no ac in that part of the house. The furniture and beds were average comfort.

Owner's Response: I’m glad my guest felt the house was comfortable and convenient to downtown Seattle. It is what I advertise and what I think this house offers to travelers. I'm unsure why my guest felt the house had too many separate spaces for large group gatherings but perhaps they were hoping to host a party at the house. I am often asked about having wedding rehearsal dinners at the house to which I politely decline as it is unfair to my neighbors to allow large gatherings of on a regular basis. I always ask my guests to consider how they would feel if they lived next door to a vacation rental home which had a wedding rehearsal dinner every weekend during the summer with 20 or 30 strangers taking all the street parking spots and bringing commotion to the neighborhood. Simply put this house is in a nice quiet neighborhood very convenient to downtown Seattle. It can easily accommodate a family gathering with multiple generations sharing the common areas on the 1st floor of the house (kitchen, living and dining rooms, front deck and back yard) but allowing guests their own separate areas on the ground floor and second floor to which they can retreat to for peace and quiet. We offer bedrooms with beds ranging from a full sized crib, twin sized beds, queen sized beds and king sized beds. There are bathrooms on all three levels and the views from the main floor and second floor are very nice.
