About Bob

I am the owner of several rental properties in Seattle, this being my third vacation rental. My wife and I purchase and renovate turn-of-the-century and mid-century homes. This house started as a mid-century two bedroom/one bath home. We took the roof off and added a second story, putting three large bedrooms on the top floor and turning the original first floor into a wide-open living space which is great for relaxing to enjoy the views or having enough room around the kitchen or dining room for a family reunion.

Bob purchased this house in 2007

Why Bob chose Northwest

This Magnolia neighborhood home is located on one of Seattle's seven major hills, surrounded by Puget Sound and tideflats. Magnolia is revered for its suburb-like quiet and safety and close location to downtown ....In other words, a suburb within a city.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Joe,

WOW, what a beautiful experience we had in Seattle. The wedding was great although Seattle did let us know that Mother Nature rules up there and although she gave us rain for the service, she also gave us the most beautiful sunset at Rays boathouse - even the restaurant help had to stop and check it out! Apparently it doesn't happen that often so we were blessed.

The house was spectacular and truly served as a home for our 5 days.

One other thing I might suggest is a guest book. I would have loved to see the comments from people who have stayed there and shared our experience as well. I am sure they are all beautiful affirmations to you and your hard work with the house but most of all the feeling that all who enter get upon arrival. The house is so grounded and offers a peacefulness that was so awesome. I have a sense that we will be visiting again and sharing our experience with others who will be coming your way.

I hope we left everything in order - the only problem was that no one wanted to leave.. How blessed we were to have found you and the Magnolia House..

Too many separate spaces for large group to gather together

  • 3 of 5

Home was comfortable and convenient to sites in town. The downstairs area was warm due to no ac in that part of the house. The furniture and beds were average comfort.

Owner's Response: I’m glad my guest felt the house was comfortable and convenient to downtown Seattle. It is what I advertise and what I think this house offers to travelers. I'm unsure why my guest felt the house had too many separate spaces for large group gatherings but perhaps they were hoping to host a party at the house. I am often asked about having wedding rehearsal dinners at the house to which I politely decline as it is unfair to my neighbors to allow large gatherings of on a regular basis. I always ask my guests to consider how they would feel if they lived next door to a vacation rental home which had a wedding rehearsal dinner every weekend during the summer with 20 or 30 strangers taking all the street parking spots and bringing commotion to the neighborhood. Simply put this house is in a nice quiet neighborhood very convenient to downtown Seattle. It can easily accommodate a family gathering with multiple generations sharing the common areas on the 1st floor of the house (kitchen, living and dining rooms, front deck and back yard) but allowing guests their own separate areas on the ground floor and second floor to which they can retreat to for peace and quiet. We offer bedrooms with beds ranging from a full sized crib, twin sized beds, queen sized beds and king sized beds. There are bathrooms on all three levels and the views from the main floor and second floor are very nice.

Wonderful home for get-togethers!

  • 5 of 5

Overall our experience with the owner and the home were very positive. The owner responded quickly to our requests and was gracious and helpful. The home's layout is great for entertaining, and the beds were comfortable. All was in order when we arrived, and was as advertised. A couple of small things could be improved on: the cooking knives in the knife block really need to be sharpened or replaced, as well as the peeler. The coffee grinder does not work, and a 4 slice toaster would be great with so many people in the home. However, the pots were a great quality and plentiful, and it was great having the outdoor barbecue. Also, it is very handy to have the high quality washer and dryer as well as kitchen appliances. You have done a fantastic job with the home, and with a few minor tweaks due to age, it would be perfect!

~ a great family trip ~

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our 7-day stay at this Magnolia house. It was a perfect fit for our family of eight, which included a 6-yr old child. There was ample space to gather as a family and private spaces for each one to recharge for all the activities available in the area. We only cooked breakfast and brunch and the kitchen was fine for that. Discovery Park up the street was a real find. Restaurants in Ballard were plentiful, but we did not like that so many did not welcome children. For several of us, the dinner at The Walrus and the Carpenter was the highlight meal of the week. Opens at 4 and does not take reservations so you better be there in line early. For others, the relatively inexpensive lunch at Salumi in the Pioneer Square area was tops. The house was close to many of the activities on our ‘to-do’ list and traffic, which we heard was awful, was manageable. A day trip to Friday Harbor with a whale watching trip and sunset kayaking was a favorite activity. Although the logistics of moving eight people from the east coast to Seattle were not simple, the time spent together at this house was worth it.

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

We rented both homes for my wedding in Oct. 2013. With my entire family including myself coming in from out of state/overseas, these homes made a great place for everyone to get together, relax and a wonderful space both before and after the wedding. We had everyone from 2 mth old babies to 80+ yrs grandparents. The homes are incredibly well-equipped for children, with booster seats, cribs, playpens, etc, that it made a wonderful space for all generations to gather. The kids especially liked having a separate play area on the lowest level. The kitchen was very well equipped, and our stay here was absolutely perfect in every way. I would recommend this property to anyone without hesitation.

Great Out of Town Wedding Housing

  • 5 of 5

My daugher was married in the Seattle area and we rented both of these homes in Magnolia. With 24 family members in for the weekend we were able to cook in one house and store flowers in the fridge at the other. The connected backyards was a great way to move between homes and with 5 cars, there was plenty of on-street parking. The house was roomy, just as advertised and we couldn't have found a better place for the family. We had kids a young as 8 months and grandparents that were 87 years old. The older folks needed a little help on the stair, but the entrance off the garage and having bedrooms on the bottom floor was perfect for them. Thanks and - we'll be back.
