I was impressed to see and live in this beautiful studio apt. Surrounding view is amazing. I was more impressed with the amenities provided by the owner. She had taken care of every small bit that a visitor might require during the stay like traveler charger, hiking sticks, umbrella etc. They have amazing books and game collections. My daughter loved all the games. we really really enjoyed our stay in this apartment. the only downside is about 20 minutes walk from bus station.
I definitely recommend this apt for lovely stay overlooking Luzerne Lake. Thanks.
We had a wonderful stay in Lucerne, in this flat and enjoyed Beatrice’s hospitality. She provided helpful tips regarding local restaurants, and the flat had many brochures on attractions in the Lucerne area. She picked us up at the Horw train station and dropped us off at the end of our stay, which we very much appreciated, as the flat is at the top of a long, fairly steep, switchbacking street….which also means there was a lovely mountain view. The apartment is spacious and well equipped, with a very comfortable bed. The kitchen had everything we needed for meal preparation.
The bus stop is a 10 minute walk down the hill, and one bus took us right into the centre of Lucerne within 15 minutes; it runs about every 10 minutes, into the evening, which was great. From the downtown drop off, the train station and the boat docks are steps away, creating seamless transfers.
The Swiss Museum of Transportation was worth the visit, because of its innovative ways to teach all ages about modes of transportation, with lots of hands on experiences. Families with children should not miss this!
We had a Swiss Rail Pass, which covered the costs of trains, buses, boat cruises, some museums and gondolas. For certain gondolas and special tour trains, we received a discount. The boat system for exploring Lake Lucerne and points around it is extensive. One day we took the boat, and got dropped off to catch the train up to Rigi Holm(Mt. Rigi). We were able to see the vistas at the mountain top, then walk down the trails, stop for a coffee at a mountain side hotel, and continue further down to another village, and catch the gondola back down to catch the boat back to Lucerne. Quite memorable! Another day we took the full boat tour around the lake, with one stop at a town along the way for lunch. We enjoyed seeing the many towns and villages as well as the fiord-like surroundings and mountain scenery.
We are glad we had the opportunity to spend a week in the Lucerne area….so much natural beauty and history to enjoy, and would stay in Beatrice’s flat again if we returned. We rate this property excellent!
We spent 3 days here as a family of four and found the flat to be perfect for what we needed. A single room with two large beds (one a pull-out, but very comfortable), an efficiency kitchen and adequately-sized bathroom. Extremely clean and tidy. The views were spectacular as the flat is just off the lake and looking out over the mountains. There is some shopping and a grocery nearby, so we made dinner in the flat on two evenings. The drive to the Lucerne city center was about 10 minutes and an easy drive. We also drove to Zurich for the day and it was less than an hour. There are few restaurant options near the flat as it is in a nice residential area, so would recommend having a car. There is covered parking available. Beatrice, the owner, was very gracious and super helpful. She was great with communication, and helped us with some traffic alerts due to weather the day of our departure. Overall would definitely stay again and would highly recommend!
What an amazing space! You wake up every morning with a view of Mt. Pilatus! Huge accommodation, we fit 3 adults comfortably here. Bea was an excellent host who was extremely helpful! A small town Horw, is a short (15 minute) walk away which has a grocery store that comes in handy since the restaurants in Lucerne can be pricey. We also were able to walk down the hill (10 minutes) to a grass beach off of lake Lucerne. The location is only about 10-15 minute bus ride from the main Lucerne train station. Would stay again!
The facilities are spacious. It’s one grand studio and could be a two-bed place if it had walls. Inside is comfortable. Place was exceptoinally clean and we tried to leave it that way. Wife Gretchen did not know how to use convection oven, would have preferred a microwave.
We loved sitting on the patio and looking at the ever changing view of Mt. Pilatus, often surrounded by a cloud wreath.
As older Americans (I am 82), we found the walk up Dormenstrasse was a bit too much for us. On two bus trips to Lucerne we chose to return after dark by taxi. Cost was only CHF 30 and was well worth it. And we didn’t have to trudge up the hill in the dark. Because of the somewhat isolated location and my aging legs, we only took one trip a day away from the rental.
We appreciated being picked up at the train station, and Bea’s son handled our suitcases in getting them to our room.
After a nap one day, I sat outside with cigar and glass of Vino Nobile de Montepulciano—my ten franc bargain on shopping spree to the local Pilatus Markt. It is quite a big shopping center. I was disappointed that I couldn’t walk more, had little endurance. Then the sun broke through, brightening the cold first part of my day. Hillside condos across the way reflected good cheer. A fluttering Swiss flag reminded me I was abroad, on vacation. While I can’t hike all day, I can sit here and enjoy the scenery. Across the way is Pilatus, that famous local peak. Tourists ride a cog train to the top for views of landscape and lakes. It must be a beautiful sight today.
Gretchen joined me for our tranquil scene. I now look forward to tomorrow, another fine day in the Lucerne suburb of Horw. With some 13,000 population, Horw offers no tourist sights, no travel demands. This is simply a Swiss burg with everyone going about their daily routines. On our walks I say “Grüezi” to passersby and they return the Swiss greeting. Smiles, too, are exchanged. What’s not to like? Of course the big attraction is nearby Lucerne which has rents double and triple what we paid in Horw.
Thinking of why I am elated to be here, I remember the severe California water shortage. I can flush a Swiss toilet without feeling guilty. And everything is so clean. The Swiss seem to be obsessed with keeping a neat and tidy environment.
Bea’s rental in Horw (pronounced something like Orb) is highly recommended for the budget conscious. And having Bee living right next door was to our advantage. She was communicative and helpful.
Our family stayed in this apartment for three nights and loved it very much. The apartment is clean, spacious with great view - we can see Mt. Pilatus from the room patio. Beatrice was helpful with all arrangements and provided information on the neighborhood. Parking is free in the premise' garage. We had a great stay here. Thanks a lot.
Horw located at the lake and is a suburb of Lucerne. The apartment is approximately 10 minutes by public transport, bus and train, in the village center can be reached in 15 minutes on foot. Hiking and ski areas are within approximately 10-30 min. reachable.
