About Jennifer Poarch

This property has been in my fathers family since around 1929. I now rent out my fathers cottage "A Cottage by the Pond" along with my own "Rocky Meadows Cottage" to help pay for his medical care. My fathers' great aunt Minerva Walker Goldsmith "Aunt Bea" purchased Rocky Meadows around 1929 in order to spend summers away from the heat of Palm Beach. Aunt Bea was known for her modernist watercolor landscape paintings. She developed a love for the mountains and sold property to her friends, one being Phillip Moose, and established Artist Alley. My father built this cabin with very little assistance in 2006. It took him 2 years to complete.

Jennifer Poarch purchased this cottage in 1973

Why Jennifer Poarch chose Blowing Rock

This cabin is close to town but provides a feeling of seclusion and privacy.

What makes this cottage unique

Privacy, pet friendly, beautiful mountain setting, outdoor stone grill, gas grill, bonfire pit next to pond paddle boat, fishing dock, close to ski resorts and restaurants

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sweet Mountain Home

Such a charming cottage with a beautiful pond view. My husband and I, and our small dog, felt right at home. The owners were very helpful and friendly. We look forward to returning again!

Clean and well maintained

  • 5 of 5

Jennifer and Dennis are extremely nice people they went out of their way to make sure we had a wonderful stay. The cabin was clean and the property was well maintained. We are a family of 5 and there was enough room for all of us and our pets. We will definitely be coming back.

Quiet weekend getaway!

  • 4 of 5

My husband, son and I just wanted a couple of days to relax, away from the chaos and this was the perfect place. Our dogs could roam free with no worry of running too far. We had our own little private pond for fishing and there was a wonderful hike just behind the house along a creek. Cabin was comfortable and perfect for the 3 of us. Conveniently close to Blowing Rock but far enough to feel secluded.

Winter wonderland for Floridians!

  • 5 of 5

We chose the coldest week of the year (wind chills below 0) to come to the Cottage by the Pond and don’t regret a single minute. Even in the snow, the cottage was easy to access and kept us warm and cozy throughout our stay. We are a family of 4 with a small dog from Florida so seeing snow was on our agenda. The property is enormous and we can’t wait to return in the summer to be able to enjoy the full amenities. Still it was a winter wonderland. Convenient location, fully equipped, well appointed and clean. Might be tight with more than 4 people in the winter months since you are mostly inside. Our kids are 10 & 13, and they are the perfect ages to enjoy all this property has to offer!

A PERFECT Christmas in The Cottage by the Pond

  • 5 of 5

Our family could not have been happier spending our Christmas at The Cottage by the Pond. The Cottage offered the amenities of home, we easily fit all six of us plus our dog, and the location was just perfect. It was just far enough away from Blowing Rock (3.7 miles), Boone, and the ski mountains, that we could easily get to them if we needed a break from the peace and serenity of The Cottage by the Pond.

The only issue we experienced (especially with 4 teenage kids) was the lack of cell coverage, however, this was a product of the overall area, not the Cottage. We had internet at the house for most of our needs, and could quickly drive into town for better Cell coverage.

All in all, it was an AWESOME trip and we are already planning on returning to The Cottage by the Pond in the summer/Fall to take full advantage of the beautiful setting. We are sincere in our 5 Star Rating and would highly recommend a visit!

Beautiful Property/Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful piece of property - so much nature and wildlife around. My husband caught some fish in the pond, we challenged each other to some horseshoes, and the dogs absolutely loved exploring the property and adjacent trails. We couldn't get their noses out of the ground. So happy we were able to bring them. The cabin itself is small but very nice and the living/dining area are more than sufficient. We all made ourselves at home. Easy and convenient drive to surrounding towns of Boone and Blowing Rock. We enjoyed Art in the Park in Blowing Rock this weekend. Suggestion: The King mattress might be ready to be replaced, as it sunk on both sides and we are not heavy people. Also, maybe cut back some of the bushes in front of the swing for better view of "Grandfather." Other than that, it was a great visit and we thank you for sharing this special place.
