About Robert Walker

This property has been in my fathers family since around 1929. I now rent out my fathers cottage "A Cottage by the Pond" along with my own "Rocky Meadows Cottage" to help pay for his medical care. My fathers' great aunt Minerva Walker Goldsmith "Aunt Bea" purchased Rocky Meadows around 1929 in order to spend summers away from the heat of Palm Beach. Aunt Bea was known for her modernist watercolor landscape paintings. She developed a love for the mountains and sold property to her friends, one being Phillip Moose, and established Artist Alley. My father built this cabin with very little assistance in 2006. It took him 2 years to complete.

Robert Walker purchased this cottage in 1973

Why Robert Walker chose Blowing Rock

This cabin is close to town but provides a feeling of seclusion and privacy.

What makes this cottage unique

Privacy, pet friendly, beautiful mountain setting, outdoor stone grill, gas grill, bonfire pit next to pond paddle boat, fishing dock, close to ski resorts and restaurants

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful Property/Convenient Location

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful piece of property - so much nature and wildlife around. My husband caught some fish in the pond, we challenged each other to some horseshoes, and the dogs absolutely loved exploring the property and adjacent trails. We couldn't get their noses out of the ground. So happy we were able to bring them. The cabin itself is small but very nice and the living/dining area are more than sufficient. We all made ourselves at home. Easy and convenient drive to surrounding towns of Boone and Blowing Rock. We enjoyed Art in the Park in Blowing Rock this weekend. Suggestion: The King mattress might be ready to be replaced, as it sunk on both sides and we are not heavy people. Also, maybe cut back some of the bushes in front of the swing for better view of "Grandfather." Other than that, it was a great visit and we thank you for sharing this special place.

A little piece of heaven on earth!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little piece of heaven on earth! The cabin was very clean and beautifully decorated. Much attention has been given to the needs of the guests, even including a baby gate for the porch. Our family made many wonderful memories by the pond, playing horseshoes, roasting marshmallows by the fire pit and grilling out together. The cabin's location is private and secluded, yet still close to the many places we enjoy visiting in the area. The owner's were very warm and friendly and went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. I look forward to returning to The Cabin By the Pond and would definitely recommend it to my friends and family.

Love going there..just want to stay forever!

  • 5 of 5

We love staying at the cottage. It is secluded and private but you know you are not alone! We love to take our bichon friese on vacation with us, if possible, so he gets to enjoy the mountains, too! It is very convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Blowing Rock, Boone and the other communities nearby. We attended the Higland Games at Grandfather Mountain, walked.many trails, climbed mountains, saw Horn in the West. Found out that a week isn't long enough to enjoy the cottage and discover everything about the area! Thank you, Jennifer for continuing to share your cottage with us!

Perfect location. Solitude right in the middle of the action.

  • 5 of 5

This rental was perfect for our family of four and small dog. When we weren't taking a short drive to all the nearby hiking trails, parks, and local eateries, our kids were fishing, using the paddle boat, or roasting marshmallows at the huge fire pit.

It felt so remote, yet we were just outside of Blowing Rock, and close to everything we wanted to do.

Amazing Get Way

  • 5 of 5

An absolutely beautiful, restful place for a couple, with/without kids (who would surely love it).

It is as nice as looks in the photos and bigger inside that the photos make it look.

I'm definitely going back!

Piece of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

When we saw the reviews we thought that we should try it...our only regrets is that we couldn't stay longer unfortunately! The others reviews say it at all! It's a piece of paradise! We caught/realized a lot fishes at the pound! It's very close to the town too! We are coming back definitely in the fall...and more!!!!
